My favorite Em song all time. The rage is palpable, the lyrics scathing, the song a gut punch of facts and hard truth. It’s pure. It’s real. It’s musical brilliance.

So glad you found the Uncensored version!!! I hate it when they do that!!! He was getting a lot flack then with the media and the protests against him!!! Even the Vice Presidents wife was lobbying against him! Calling him a misogynist and saying he was a horrible influence on the young people! His own mom sued him because of the things he said in his first hit My Name Is! She didn't get much...mainly because what he said..was true! He was having a really hard time with the fame and not being able to go anywhere anymore on his own!!! He and his family were secluded from the rest of the world!

This came out right after the Columbine High shooting, and yeah, the mainstream media was blaming everyone but the bullies and the parents of Eric and Dylan. "The Trenchcoat Mafia" (a group of kids that Eric and Dylan were sort of friendly with), Marilyn Manson and the first Doom games got the most blame if I recall correctly. As someone who was going to high school in Colorado at the time, that shooting really affected me, enough that my mom was thinking about home schooling us.
@OrbObserver2 жыл бұрын
Eric and Dylan were not bullied, that's the narrative pushed. The truth is they were the actual bullies and there are multiple reports from all varieties of classmates, teachers, pretty much everyone they came in contact with about what huge assholes they were.
@ihateusernamesgrrr2 жыл бұрын
And now Americans seem to have a new school shooting every month and still nobody cares. If your country cares they would have already implemented effective policy but nobody nobody is allowed to talk about removing guns from the general population, or talk about government programs that help parents, or talk about improving the public education system, or implement centralized health care because "tyranny" and "socialism". If your country cares more about having guns as toys, and still continues to ignore where it's taxes are spent, then all public solutions are gone off the table and you have a factual foundation to say nobody cares about the kids or anybody in future generations to come.

This came out not long after Columbine.. Eminem was dragged on Main Stream Media (CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC) for blaming it on parents 😂 20+ years later, and school shootings are now a 'norm' in the United States. Should have listened to Em....

Guilty Conscience is also good. Also When I'm Gone, and Not Afraid. I really love how you actually listen to the lyrics. I don't care if you pause and rewind, the fact that you're doing it because you heard something worth listening to more intently is a good enough reason for me.💜

This was the first hiphop song ever I learned bar for bar. I was in lower secondary school and can still bust out this beast out whenever called upon. I think I could do every song from the Marshall Mathers LP to this day. It had such a huge impact on me. This plus Marilyn Manson who is named in this song was a huge part of my teenage years. I had blond hair like him one year and black with a blue tint the other year just like Eminem and Marylin Manson. I used to get bullied a lot at school but music like this made me fight back so hard that people would rarely try twice, and I owe a lot of that fight back and confidence to music like this. I am 5,2 feet "tall" now as an 37 year adult so imagine how hard it was being a child and teenager going to school every day.

Interesting FACT. In this song he says "Im not gonna be able to top "My Name Is" yet " The Way I Am" did the single sold more copies and shot him even higher. The pure anger and emotion in this track was one of his first tracks that didn't have the typical wild shit he was known for it was just pure emotion. They gave him so much shit about his songs not selling because of the unorthodox material yet thats exactly what made him so big. Its sad today that he's not doing the same techniques with the way the world has changed so much and feelings get hurt so quick. All in all he is the greatest lyrical artists there is and has been for so long now

Probably cuz it doesn't crazy yet, unfortunately Em comes with crazy. It's not always a bad thing, but a lot of people don't like that part of him cuz like, Em's music isn't something you can listen to except on your own or with certain friends. I can't blast this in the hood without getting looks or starting some nonsense fight. But oh well, it's generally white people who like him at all so it's not really an issue.

So crazy story. We had a foreign exchange student from Turkey when I was in high school. We were in central Missouri and he went with a couple of the guys to Springfield MO to the movie theater. He saw Brad Pitt at the theater and freaked out. At the time it was Brad and Angie with like three or four kids. Angie took the kids to the car but Brad Pitt was a cool guy and said hi to Muhammad. It was probably the high light of his trip. I think seeing Brad Pitt was normalized for me because of where I grew up. His brother and him use to go hunting in the area I grew up at. He even got lost out on my seventh grade history teachers property a few times.

Eminem was truly being criticized for rapping first of all cause he’s white and second rapping about Vicodin and homosexuals. Back then… this was huge. I respect Eminem and Dre knew how good he was and supported him when some people hated that he was white and the media was attacking his lyrics about Kim and that was understandable. That was a dark time in his music.
