Agreed. Spectacular images and wonderful composition throughout. I audibly said ‘wow’ a few times while watching this video. Great to see you using the 35mm v1 with goggles! I’m looking at purchasing the same. Do you have any trouble with lens to camera calibration for focus accuracy or any challenge with the viewfinder being darkened or inaccurate focusing over all? All the best!

Awesome... i have the leica m2 and a summaron 3.5 35mm and recently just bought fomapan 200. good to see your results. I think the summaron is a decent lens but i think fomapan seemed to like super short dev times like 5 mins max or it get really contrasty.

How did you find the M3's lack of a light meter? I'm considering an M3 or M6. Not sure I'd want to use sunny 16 all the time or carry a meter....but the M3 does appear to be a fantastic camera.
@edpavez8 жыл бұрын
I use the "Light Meter" app on my phone and measure at the beginning. the M6 is a fantastic camera. if you use lenses, go for an M6. if you don't, and you use 50mm, go for the M3. light meters are overrated.
@jeffirish34026 жыл бұрын
Find a Leica MR or MR4 meter (made by Metrawatt.) They at very accurate (and can be restored if needed), fit on to the flash shoe and couple with the shutter speed dial. They are an averaging meter- vs. a spot or matrix, so you may need to adjust you settings based on trickier lighting conditions, but it gives you a good starting point. One advantage for street photography is that you can point it at your subject and get a reading without raising the camera to eye level, make you settings and only raise it to eye level when you're ready to shoot. Plus if the light is fairly consistent you really don't need to change your setting all that much.

Eduardo, which rangefinder did you advice me to start entering into rangefinder's world? I'm really interested into Rollei 35 but over 100€ euros for the model B35 is too much. Can you advice me same rangefinders under 100€ that are good for start?
@edpavez8 жыл бұрын
please note the Rollei 35 is not a rangefinder. also, 100€ for a camera is basically nothing... a good rangefinder will be VERY expensive. if you have less than 100€ you might find a FED2 or FED3; or maaaybe a used Yashica Electro 35!
@maxarosio8 жыл бұрын
Thanks EduardoPavezGoye I will go looking for the Yashica. - The strangest thing is that a Rollei 35 3.5 ,about 5 mouth ago cost about 60€, now can find one for about 150€ if you are lucky. - I know that a good rangefinders cost more than 200€ but for start I don't want spend so much money for a camera. Thank for the replying.
@Kref38 жыл бұрын
The way I see it, you are not spending any money in cameras at all. You are just blocking some money. You can always sell them after a month or year or decade. And if you buy a good camera, price will usually go up. See the Rollei for 60 then and 150 now.

As one of my friends said "It is either very dark or very light". I used a Flexaret IV (120 roll film), developed myself and printed in my home-made lab (on Foma paper). Using the Sunny16 exposure rule - Only the images I managed to nail perfectly looked similar to these shown here. Everything else even tho it had details - it was like my friend said ↑ Here they turned out just fine ☺ , I guess it behaves better when you use adequate developer and developing time. Don't know about the gear, shot some 35mm IlfordXP2 on a Kiev 4, printed them in the darkroom and it turned out perfectly, almost like the scans.
@dzava3 жыл бұрын
That may also be because Fomapan is not actually precise to the box speed. The Foma 400 for example is not really ISO 400 - more like 250. The 200 is more like 125 and the Foma 100 somewhere maybe at 64-80. Try it with a proper lightmeter and the results should be better. I tried Foma 100 at ISO 80 in my Pentax Spotmatic and it was quite nice. But when I tried Foma 400 in Olympus OM40 and forgot to change it to lower ISO - the images were too dark. I developed both in Fomadon Excel W27 and used Fomafix P as a fixer
@phigrecon6 жыл бұрын
yeeees double stroke rocks! fomapan 200 is a little grey in low contrast light, I would have pushed it a little or extended te development time slightly. Great video though!

I noticed the skies weren't blown out; typically they are in B/W. I had to go back to the beginning to see if you were using filters to bring out the texture of the clouds and darken the sky. It appears you were on at least one of the lenses, but you didn't say what type of filter you used. Appears to be a lite-red filter.
@edpavez4 жыл бұрын
No, that was an UV/IR filter because I used that last lens with the Leica M8 that needs an UV/IR filter to turn purples into black. These images were scanned with a flatbed Epson V550 and processed a little bit on Lightroom. Maybe that’s why the skies are not blown. From 2016 onwards I scan with a Pakon F135 that gives results closer to the film directly printed.
@francisco54344 жыл бұрын
EduardoPavezGoye Hey, thanks for the quick response! It never occurred to me that UV could have similar red lens effects on b/w film skies, even though it’s right there in the name. I’ll have to try that. It will help with shutter speed too. Thanks. Great shoot, btw.
@edpavez4 жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t think the UV/IR filter will affect the image, but I haven’t run a comparison test! If you do, please share your results. :)
@francisco54344 жыл бұрын
@EduardoPavezGoye I recall reading that b/w film is highly sensitive to UV and the sky is awash with it. Our eyes don't detect it at all so we see blue skies, whereas the film is blown out by it, like looking into a flashlight. The UV also has a different focal length to visible light so it doesn't focus on the film plane and creates fuzzy images. Using a UV helps keep images tack sharp and darken the skies. That's why your images fooled me. I could see sky definition and clouds. When I looked back in the video I saw what I thought was a red hue all across the filter and assumed it must be an orange-red or red filter which darken the blue skies. But a UV should have that effect on b/w film. I will test it eventually but it's a heat wave in Las Vegas now, so it will have to wait.
