Like these blanco y nero Hastings shots. As always Fran and Rodrigo did a wonderful job. Purchased a X 500 with 3.5/35-70 on eBay yesterday. I prefer anlogue cameras with full manuals or with aperture priority.

TMax400 is what I used at uni in my very first b&w film photography class. Pretty versatile ISO (not too high to be grainy, not too low to be difficult to get enough light). So glad I had that experience. I think the next year the uni switched to digital cameras (except for one-off classes for BFA students). Long live film!

I liked how the developer gave it that "sepia" feel to the photos since most of if not all the photos had no real modern context in them it added to the old world feel
@datadinkusmc0017 жыл бұрын
That was not done by the developer, that was done in post...remember black and white film RECORDS NO COLOR
@fotogmike3037 жыл бұрын
Jon Trevino oh I thought it was the coffee he used that gave the color
@FrankWalsh7 жыл бұрын
Fotog Mike you are actually correct. Cafenol does stain the film and gives it a natural sepia color. This is not the same as the film recording color so Jon has never probably used Cafenol and seen this

Frank Walsh and also assumed I don't know how bnw film works as I only shoot bnw mainly although I am currently working on a new project called expired where I am shooting expired colored film
@datadinkusmc0017 жыл бұрын
Actually I figured that coffee stained the film cause if you're a coffee drinker you know coffee stains, what I didn't know was that ED posted strait color scans, he didn't treat this film like Black and White film, but scanned it as color film. Its all in the question I asked him.

Yes, I think that you are correct, you did mess up the development but thumbs up for trying something new. The only home made formula that I recommend is the late Barry Thornton's 2 bath method, I have just developed three rolls together in the same tank, Kodak Tri-X, Ilford HP5+ and Fomapan 200 all at 200 asa and on initial inspection they look very good.

Hey man! Glad to see you tried out the caffenol thing..! I always love to see your channel, great information shared and good photos too.. You spend your "photowalks" on doing this and not just a half hour walk, and I think this is visible to the output you give. Many thanks for sharing! Anyways, back to the caffenol thing, to be honest when I saw the Tmax400 film I was superexcited to see the results.. It's interesting that they got this sepia tone but I also noticed some drop to the contrast of the film maybe? From what I saw I think this is definately a recipe for other films, less expensive maybe.. Greets!

Very nice experiment Eduardo! The roll did seem to lose some definition, which I guess can be related to the caffenol and not the developing time. Still, very very cool! And that Kodak bag....man, that's something. You seem to be lucky with the bags you find! Keep up with the great work!

Hey Ed, I always develop my films with caffenol. For high-sensitivity (400asa or +) films I recommend starting from 18/20 minute in caffenol (around 20°C) , first minute continuous shakes, then 3 shakes every minute. (Iodinated salt to decrease the fog is a good substitute for bromide). bye ;)

When you said they turned out bad, I thought that it was going to be something akin to unintelligible photos. I mean apart from Bromide Drag, these photos had a nice sepia-tone to them. It's a good thing you kinda shot more towards an architectural, scenic sense so it would balance out somewhat

I have one of these cameras. I got it back in college for photography classes. Unfortunately, it is not working. It doesn't turn on, so I'm suspecting it's the battery, the other thing that doesn't work is the lever, I don't know why, but it's stuck. I will try to change the battery to see if it works (Turns on and eventually releases the lever) in case it does work when I try that, do you have any tips for starting analog photography?
@fastskipper7777 жыл бұрын
X-500 is an electronic shutter so you need battery to use it. It won't fire without those. Get two LR44 or better yet, SR44 or 357 batteries (silver oxide) which don't leak as the alkaline LR44s do when get old. Only ting is alkaline ones are usually cheaper. I have X-570 myself.
@synthetiquememoirs7 жыл бұрын
fastskipper777 Thank you very much, I was able to get it to work. However, the speed dial doesn't seem to work.
@fastskipper7777 жыл бұрын
Is it in "A" position? If so, it's in Aperture priority mode. When you put the shutter dial to aperture priority, it's locked. You have to press a little black button next to it to release the lock. And the shutter dial will rotate. If you do that, it's now in manual mode. (in Aperture priority mode, you just pick the aperture - on the lens ring - and camera automatically chooses the shutter speed). In manual mode, you have to adjust both aperture and shutter dial to match to the meter in the viewfinder. X-500 (X-570) is great because it was released after X-700 (which does not show the actual shutter speed in the viewfinder in manual mode, only the meter indicated shutter speed). For X-500, under manual mode, you will see the aperture at the bottom of viewfinder in a little window. And you will see a steady red dot next to a shutter speed on right - that's the metered shutter speed. And as you rotate the shutter dial, you will see a blinking red dot move up and down, that's the actual shutter speed you choose. When you match the shutter dial so that the blinking red dot and the steady dot come together, you have matched the shutter dial to the metered shutter speed. Then focus and take the shot.

Hi guys , i've been searching in youtube for the ideal film camera for me and i find some photo results with lots of contrast which is what i want and some a bit "washed" my question is, what's main source of that?is it the film?the camera?the lens? or the way that it is revealed?thanks ps: im just a beginner
@edpavez6 жыл бұрын
The contrast or lack of contrast depends mainly on the film, development and scanning. Camera and lens have no saying in that matter (at least not as much, really).

@arzivenko

I did the Caffenol once using a Ilford PAN100 recipe DELTA-STD, result kind of flat and looks a little black at film base, may need more time to fix, consume more fixer as well, also the smell just weired : 0``` may try with a BETTER film like 400TX/HP5 or FP4 which can easily develop with most developers. p.s. my opinion: the Caffenol recipe suit a Medium or Large format far better than a 135 film.
