The hallmark of someone who knows what they are talking about is the ability to explain complex subjects simply and clearly. Kudos on that front. My only peeve, actual images vs. just a description of scenarios would have been much more helpful. After all, photography is a visual medium. :-)

A great explanation. I do find it helpful to look back at the details of my photo to see what settings worked or what setting could be changed for an improved photograph. Eventually, after a short while, it all become instinctive, double nature.

Bought my camera 5 months ago now, spent a lot of money too, on different bits of gear. Been watching videos on and off for most of that time and I can honestly say that this one, has finally started to make things seem a little bit more clearer for me. At 62, my brain ain't getting any quicker lol, and I'll be honest and say that I've kinda been struggling a bit. I needed a new hobby, due to health problems that I'm trying to deal with, and I really do need to make this thing work for me. So this is a massive THANK YOU, from me to you, and I mean that sincerely. I've just subscribed so hopefully this is the start of new beginnings for me and my Nikon D5600.

Thank you SO much for relating how difficult it was for you to reconcile these three elements in your head and have it all make sense. I am struggling tremendously with it, and I've been doing this for years! It's always been a big hurdle for me, and I always shrink back to auto mode. Lately, I've really been beating myself up for not having this down. So, it was really helpful for me to hear that. And I WILL be going over it again and again until it makes sense. I know I have a great eye....I just don't have the technical piece understood. I liken it to being able to play music by ear, but not being able to read music. And at this stage of my life and experience, I just can't justify the ignorance anymore. I need to get this if I want to take myself as a photographer seriously. It just has to happen. There have been too many instances where not understanding this relationship and language has cost me the images I wanted.

I received a new expensive camera this past Christmas, and like many others here, I searched everywhere for a simple breakdown of these features, only to view countless confusing videos, blogs, manuals, beginner's tips etc., all that assumed I knew more than I did to begin with. Trying to piece together the information with standard definitions of each term was unbearably time-consuming and ultimately did nothing other than bring on tension headaches. In contrast, your short video was amazingly informative and easy to follow from start to finish. I loved the recaps of each section and the final example putting it all together. I also loved your encouraging words of how it took you time to understand it all, and how you had to go over the information a few times before it stuck. FWIW, I'm very much a visual learner who loves lots of pictures, charts, illustrations etc., but your explanation was so easy to understand that I didn't need them at all. In fact, I spent so much time taking notes for future reference that I never even noticed the absence of visuals! I was about to give up and just use the auto mode forever, but now I'm looking forward to actually using my camera as it was intended to be used. Can't thank you enough. Definitely subscribing!

Very informative lesson. Thank you. Understanding the basic theory first by listening, and listening again to your tutorial was invaluable. I love this guy. he clearly explains everything and gives you an idea of the starting iso100, 2.5 aperture. then 1/100th of a second and how the image turn out dark. so how to let in more light by lowering shutter speed to 1/50th of a second to let in twice the light. but it can cause blur because too long shutter speed due to any movements of the object or the camera. and then he talks about can lower aperture for more light in but can cause certain part of your body to blur because of that due to a greater depth of field. then he offers a solution to go to higher iso instead to raise the censors sensitivity to light. therefore getting the right exposure while in all still able to get a clean sharp image. much thanks. you have been very very helpful.

Then I went for decades not using it and since digital has replaced film, I realized how much I've forgotten and that I have SO MUCH to relearn, and experimentation is so important....You have to USE the camera almost on a daily or weekly basis so that what you've explained gets into your brain.... Very well presented. I have one suggestion that I think would get your presentations to an A+++ rating. As you are talking about manipulating the Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO, if you would show on the screen what changes occur in a photo with the aperture one way and then what that same shot would look like when you make a change. For visual learners, that would be spot on!! Thanks for your series of tutorials. :-)

Thanks so much for this video. I have been shooting on Aperture priority mode for years and am now taking the steps to shoot in manual mode. This video relates all elements together very well.

Yes, finally someone talked a photography language for beginners who want to learn how to get more out of their camera. I've finally learned the basics of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Thank you!!!

I am just starting to really use manual mode for all my shooting. I took some one on one photography classes. The instructor explained , I have to use manual mode so my exposure remains the same , like during a portrait. I was using AV mode and spending Hours and hours in post processing. Honestly I was really struggling with my exposures, in different settings. Your video is excellent , explains all 3 elements very well. Best video I have seen. Thank you

Thank you so much! I have wanted to learn these complex settings for so many years but continue to quit because it's been so foreign to me. I will have to watch many more times but this is the video that is going to finally get through. I have a much better understanding even after one view!

Totally loved this video! My first camera is due to arrive next week. Even without having it in my hands, this video has really broken down three key concepts in such an easily comprehendible manner that I feel greatly empowered.

This was so wonderful! It's been 20 years since I studied photography, back in the film days, and have forgotten so much. You are an excellent teacher and I will watch out for more videos. I am shooting real estate interiors and exteriors and video if you have any suggestions. Thank you again!
