In Shoot Your Own Sunset Wall Art - Part 1 we did the research to find the right location, time of sunset, tides etc and found the positions to photograph from. Search our channel for "Shoot Your Own Sunset Wall Art" to find it.
You have to work pretty fast when capturing a sunset photo which has a structure in it because sunsets don't last long. Keep an eye on your exposure and use histograms to make sure the exposure is correct because your LCD will appear brighter than it is as light levels drop.
In this video we were very lucky to get the sunset we did because it turned cloudy mid afternoon. But the sun poked out under the clouds for a few minutes and it was spectacular.
Join me on the final stage of the shoot as i shoot images, then back in the office doing post production tweaks to the RAW file in Adobe Lightroom and finally enjoying the final printed image where it should be - hanging on the wall.
If you'd like to take your photography to the next level check out our other videos, downloadable e-courses, DVDs and workshops at www.photography...

Thank you. To answer your questions. 1) if by like this you mean lonely fre standing lighthouses I don't think there are. If anyone knows of one please comment. 2) If you have 8 meggapixels or more, the image is sharp and well exposed you can make prints at least 24 inches wide and they look fine. Most cameras have around 20MP these days so you can print double that size provided you haven't cropped the original

Hi. I can't say what exposure i use because it'll be different for every picture. Some sunrises / sunsets will be brighter or darker than others, and you may want to make them brighter or darker than they are according to how you want the image to look so you have to set it according to what you want. I don't use an ND but I do sometimes use a grad

Thank you. Hmm that's an almost unanswerable question. I'd take focal lengths from 10mm to 200mm, a polariser and maybe a couple of grad filters. Hope that helps...

This has been one of the best videos I have seen in your series!! I enjoyed it thoroughly and I felt I was in there honestly.. When encountering a scenario like that, you have to enjoy photography 100% and I did just seeing you enjoying it:) That is one of the aspects that I enjoy about photography the most ...the adrenaline that I get myself through the process when I see a mental picture transformed in reality and the result is just awesome, like the picture you got. Thanks so much for conveying the joy that brings being a photographer.Gem:)

Hey thanks Gem. I love the 'buzz' tto. It's so great when you put in a load 0of work researching the right location, how to make the camera capture the scene the way you want it to and then that little bit of luck when the light and weather plays ball too. Interestingly, I find the harder people try, the luckier they get... MIKE :-)

Hi Dave. Are you asking about photographing the sun itself - or a sunset? Photographing the sun itself would be very specialist and I don't recommend trying it without doing research on how to do it and what kind of kit / level of filtering you'd need. I've shot hundreds of sunsets over the years and as far as I'm aware there aren't any. Camera will be fine and so long as no one tries to look directly at sun there shouldn't be a problem.

Cracking video! The ones that show the mistakes and problems and what to do about them are Golden Nuggets when learning. I play guitar as well as Photography and I tell people, they way to learn is to play a song from start to finish to make you more complete and the same goes for photography as you have excellently demonstrated. Would love to see how you got the print i.e. how you setup your supply chain. Happy new year you and your team(wife)

If you're going to print an image it's best it doesn't fade so all my printing is either done by professional digital printer PW Digital in Poole UK who uses archival inks. Or by ProAm Imaging in Bradford UK who print onto photographic paper. Framing is a personal choice as to what you like and what works with the image in it.

Thank you. "When is it safe to look at the sun in the viewfinder?" It's never a great idea but there's no way around it if you're going to shoot before the sun goes behind the horizon. Thank you jakkie. Have a great trip. No tips for you really. The same techniques of photography apply regardless of where or what you're photographing. If you're on a small boat that's bouncing about on the water, make sure your shutter speed is much faster than focal length you have on the lens to avoid camera shake. (EG. 50mm lens = min 150th shutter speed) Won't be an issue on big cruise ship though... MIKE
