Man you did a great review of these fantastic pistols. I've carried my shield 9 for over 10 years in every situation. From pocket carry at work (cargo pants), to on my side while ginseng hunting. It's never failed me thru probably at least 1000 rounds. However been considering the 40 recently and I didn't know it's slightly lighter. But that makes sense about bore being more open. Either way in my opinion it's the most shootable sub/micro 9mm around. It's not as light as some of the newer ones and a little bigger. However it feels more like a solid option for me. Well done sir and thanks for the information

Great review. I tried the Shield in both .40SW and 9mm at the range where I shoot a few months ago. They had a demo day and Glock, Smith & Wesson, and Springfield Armory were there. I shot the Glock 43 and I prefer the Shield over it. I was impressed when I fired the Shield in .40SW. It was a lot more controllable than I thought it would be. Overall I would be happy with either one. I would probably shoot the 9mm Shield more due to lower ammo cost and less recoil, but I would have no regret in going with the Shield in .40 either.

This is probably one of the best video's you have done yet! I've watched many of them. To the point with accurate information. I agree with your inside the pants holster choice, I make my own because most holsters don't meet my needs as to fit and comfort! I prefer inside the pants holsters made of suede. The Suede gives extra grip keeping it in place when drawing from the holster. Very honest without to much discussion and you explained each holster and pistol in a manor that allows the viewer to make his or her mind up which may work best for them and how they may want to carry. Excellent job!

+C Kim Thanks. I always feel something like this is a personal choice. I myself like to hear objective information while outlining considerations. I would never tell anyone they were an "idiot" for wanting/not wanting a safety or choosing 9 over 40 or 40 over 9 etc... I can only tell you what I have and why, from there it's your choice. Unfortunately not every reviewer does that. I hate "here's why I'm right and if you don't agree you're an idiot" videos. I'm sure you've seen a few of those and know what I'm talking about. -SFF Dad

Smith & Wesson M&P .40 2.0 Performance Center, is my personal edc. It’s so easy to carry, I sometimes forget I’m wearing it. It’s very accurate, but it really needs to have a red dot on it. I sent my slide out to be milled to fit a new Holosun 507k. The front sight, unless it’s tritium gets fogged over with exhaust gasses and essentially lost, due to the ported barrel and vented slide. I really like this gun. I’ve put a lot of rounds through it and never had any issues. No jams, misfeeds, light strikes or failures to return to battery, which is why it’s my e d c.; when I pull the trigger, I know it will function properly, every time.

Got one too but had it ported. Didn't want to sell it to get a Performance Center Shield .40 because the sights and trigger are unnecessary for my needs. I just needed it ported because compared to my full service XD .40, my Shield seemed a little too high on muzzle flip and hard on recoil against my upper palm of my hands near my thumb. It stung after shooting about 500 rounds in two hours.

The 10mm will not be as "jumpy" as the 40. Owned Glock 20, 29, and a Eaa Witness match and they have more of a push back like 45acp. Did carry the 29 awhile for EDC but was concerned with the penetration of the 10 even with JHP's.

I settled on a Shield 9mm over everything else on the market after a very extensive investigation of many possible choices. Without a doubt the 9mm Shield is much easier to shoot fast and more accurately than the 40, but neither is hard to shoot. This along with the FBI ballistic testing and switch to 9mm made up my mind for me. The Army Delta group as well as the Navy Seals also shoot 9mm. I shoot 100 rounds every week and the 9mm Shield is so easy to become very proficient with that it begs to be shot. My carry gun has been extensively modified with an Apex flat faced trigger kit, a 3.5 pound Wolfe trigger spring and much buffing and polishing. It has a butter smooth trigger with short take up and reset. Mine has been fitted with XS big dot sights, CT green trigger guard laser and MagGuts modified mags giving me 10 rounds in a very comfortable appendix carry weapon. I carry with 124 grain HSTs which have repeatedly performed better than any other load in short barrel 9mms. It is the best CCL pistol I've ever owned in 46 years of carrying!

Regarding how similar they are, they truly are actually identical. Apart from the bore and chamber, magazines themselves, and probably the extractor. the frame, slide, and internal parts are the same. In fact a lot of people have gotten the 40 then just ordered the barrel of the 9mm and it will function. Again, would probably want to change the extractor as well, or better yet the entire upper part of the gun and just use the same frame. But you can even load 9mm rounds into the 40 mag and with the correct barrel it will feed.

Not sure I agree. My wife's oldest boy is a certified firearm instructor for CBP (not his daily job, but a qualification he got just in case 😊), and he commented that the recoil of the Shield .40 was pretty noticeable, but somewhat expected with a barrel that short. My wife hates it, but also doesn't care for her .380 either and seems most confident with the Ruger 9mm we have. Her other sons can't seem to really get used to it either, but they both have 9mms. I find this gun to be incredibly accurate at defense range, and I guess I lean into the recoil and don't really notice it. Good grouping, run tons of rounds through it with zero issues. My only regret is not getting the full size.

I have a m&p shield .40, I started looking at buying a performance center shield 9mm jist because there was a really good sell going on and also the 9mm is cheaper ammo to play at the range. I started really thinking more about what I was going to do. I ended up buying a conversion 9mm barrel for my .40 from tr-enabling and I couldn't be happier. (I spent $140 for the barrel instead of $400 for an entire gun) I just ran 100+ rounds yesterday out of that barrel and had 1 casing not eject, I guess the extractor didnt catch it properly while it was ejecting. That's not bad. So anyone curious about the shield. yes a 9mm barrel fits and works in the .40, all I did was change the barrel and the magazine then shot, matter a fact I was switching back and forth at the range and had no issues. If it were made, I would not shoot a .40 cal. LC9 it would not be very controllable. I could imagine owning a .40 Shield, though. It feels like a bigger gun than it is.

I'm more old school S&W with my 5906 and 4506. I hate plastic framed handguns, especially the ones whose grip feel like I am grabbed a chunk of asphalt due to the coarse stippling. I prefer a steel or aluminum alloy frames. The Shield looks top heavy. Is it? Also, you had a video of Sam shooting a 4506. How much of a recoil difference can you say is between that and these plastic guns. I have always found that the plastic guns has you feeling so much more recoil to it than the old steel guns. I barely feel recoil with my two S&Ws.

Could you please tell us the brand of the ISWB holster in this video. I have been using Uncle Mikes and they are OK but would like to try leather. Thanks
@ShootFastFun8 жыл бұрын
I wish I could, it was a maker in NC that appeared at gun shows for about a year, that's where I picked up two of these. He stopped appearing at gun shows, there are no marking on the holster (no branding, no tags or anything) and I would love to get another one. If I stumble over him again I'll make sure to get the details. In the meantime, I found another IWB holster that I like, DeSantis SOF-TUCK (106 X6 is stamped on it) fits the Shield very well. I've been using it almost a year now. It keeps its shape a little better than those in the video though not quite as thin, they take up very little space.

@niquemarshall3 жыл бұрын
yes, but the 40 barrel won’t work in the 9
@Lawrence_L.A._Auble4 жыл бұрын
I own the 40. Unfortunately I’ve had nothing but problems with rounds constantly jamming in the chamber. I purchased a few more mags thinking that would solve the issue but it has not. My Sig has never jammed once. Is it me or has anyone else had this issue?
@niquemarshall3 жыл бұрын
prolly your ammo. mine hasn’t jammed once with the factory mag
@ronaldgillespie91933 жыл бұрын
I agree it might be your ammo. I have never had a jamming issue with mine, and I've put over 1500 rounds through it. Not one single bullet jammed

Missed something here - show was titled S&W M&P 9 0r 40 Shield? Where does the Ruger fit into all f this. Disappointed so much time was devoted to the Ruger - should feature in it's own show.

Wasting ammo on the range?
@lisaliguori34127 жыл бұрын
IMO, as far as holster choices go, a direct belt clip attached directly to the gun is much better than a holster. Especially that soft holster with practically no retention. There are good clips available from technaclip and clipdraw .com Why add to the weight or bulk or both, if its not necessary. Just my view. Thanks for the review.
