An old trick prior to mounting any scope is to "zero the reticle". Place the scopes objective lens against a large mirror with a strong light behind you. Looking into the eyepiece you will see the reticle and its shadow. Simply adjust the turrets until the two images become one. This ensures the reticle is in the exact center of the tube. If using two-piece bases/rings check the two sets alignment with one another with a correct size metal bar (1-inch, 30mm, 35mm) and lap the rings if out of alignment. this will prevent damage the scope tube ruining the scope.

I have not heard that mirror old trick, it sounds good, great for a second hand scope, can you explain it better? If I point the objective at a mirror, ok shine a light thru the scope from the eyepiece, how do you look thru eyepiece then without moving the light? Im missing something there? If the light or your eye is at any angle it would throw things off, yes? I ask because I would like to understand this? Thanks Don
@ditzydoo4378
@ditzydoo4378 Ай бұрын
@@mrdinme.4768 No problem Don, Place the objective end of the scope firmly against the mirrors face. Look into the eyepiece and align the two images until one. The light, it simply is refracted laterally though the mirrors surface. The brighter rooms light the better.

Yeah I didn’t believe this trick actually worked when I first read about it years ago but I’ll be darned once you get it set up (the room must be *well lit* however) it works like a charm to mechanically center the scope.

Good video. Glad you guys shot 10 shots to check zero. That tells you a lot more than a 3 shot group will. When the Leupold guy was talking wind holds, he should have brought up mirage, because that is wind in "real time'. With A good scope with good glass, you'll be able to see mirage. I would have been using my pack as well. That's what I use, for shots like these during hunting. Longest shot on a buck, down in the Deschutes canyons was 700 yards DRT.. Good stuff here though.

There are 4 things a modern rifle needs: 1) Reliable feeding from a detactable Magazine. 2) Modular 3 lug Bolt with Interchangable bolt heads and knobs. 3) Adjustable trigger. 4) Replaceable Scope rail. If TC brings out a bolt action it needs to bring something to the market the other companies don't. Having a modular bolt the end user can setup for a niche cartridge with a custom knob is the optimum scenario. Having an octogon bottom receiver will give a more consistant bedding area for mounting in a stock or chassis. Then design a one piece floorplate / trigger guard that locks into the bottom of the receiver so the magazines are aligned correctly for reliable feeding independent of the stock the action is in.
@joshyoder4076

Agree with all your points except the removable scope rail. I think they should all be integrated into the receiver. One less thing to come loose

What happened to TC? They used to have some of the best muzzleloaders, now they're just okay. Their TC contenders where fantastic and people still buy used ones like hotcakes. Their TC Hawken/Renegades were really well made "traditional" style muzzleloaders (still sought after by many). Bring back the TC we all knew and loved from the 90s. Classic example of a larger company buying them out and killing quality and innovation and only focus on profit margins. That might be a short term solution but long term doesn't work..... Look at Remington or winchester. They are just a shell of their former selves because they stopped trying to innovate. Use Ruger, Hornady, Weatherby as examples of how to run a business in this industry. CVA is only a slippery slope down as well, they still have some brand loyalty but they aren't innovating or truly listening to their customers. They'll be next down the road to failure if they dont change their ways
