Yep. It was a well crafted song right down to the Beatles reference at the beginning which was so spot on for all the kids that they inspired to want to be rock and roll performers just like Elvis had done a decade earlier and it was cool that Alex picked up on the specific usage of the words shooting star to fit the sad tale of so many young performers of note that checked out that way.

I so appreciate your analysis, Alex. For me, Shooting Star was more like a solemn remembrance of rock and roll loss. In 1971-72 we lost 3 legends over the course of a year, all the same age, all of the same cause. It was a dreaded theme and like generations before us we took it hard. And make no mistake, even then we knew Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison were legends. Then there was Duane Allman in a motorcycle crash during that same period And others I can’t think of right now It was awhile ago. Do more Bad Company, please. Well done, guys.
@teesiemom4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and not long after, we lost Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines of Lynyrd Skynyrd; and Gary Thain of Uriah Heap, and Keith Moon from The Who...so many that just burned bright, then were gone. 😔

Realize he was also the lead singer for Free, with songs like All Right Now, which is said to be played on the radio somewhere in the world every 45 seconds. Bad Company has got a wide range of fantastic songs. The songs you've got to listen to are: beginning with the harder hitting songs - Holy Water, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy, Burnin' Sky, Rock Steady, and Can't Get Enough; to the middle ground - Bad Company, Shooting Star, and Movin' On; to the softer end of the spectrum - Ready for Love, Feel Like Makin' Love, Don't Let Me Down, and Seagull. I cannot disagree with his impression. Well thought out and expressed. Sometimes I think these guys are a little too nice because they may not want to alienate subscribers. I don't have a problem if they don't like something that I love as long as they can explain themselves as Alex adequately did here.

Agree with your take on it. I used to think it was a cheesy song and title but then the entire weight and power of it hit me and blew me away. I thought it would be corny at first, now I see I was wrong. Shooting Star is a heavy, powerful tune.

I Love this song so much. A wonderful story all in one beautiful song.❤My favorite lyrics... "Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play Don't you know? Don't you know? Don't you know that you are a shooting star & The world will love you just as long as you are?" A beautiful written song. The tragic reality many great musicians have came to terms with. The fleeting journey of a Great Musician/Shooting Star leaving a legacy behind for the world to love. So sad but true. 😥 May all the great Musicians/Singers we have lost throughout the years RIP. And their legacy live on through their music. Great Reaction Guys! 😊

Bad Company was an English Super Group formed from Vocalist Paul Rogers and drummer Simon Kirke from Free ("All Right Now"), bassist Boz Burrell from King Crimson and guitarist Mick Ralphs from Mott the Hoople. They had a long string of hits including "Can't Get Enough", "Feel Like Makin' Love", "Run with the Pack", "Movin' On", "Rock and Roll Fantasy", "Ready for Love" and " Live for the Music". After Freddie Mercury's death, Paul Rogers did two large tours singing for Queen. His voice is obviously completely different than Freddie's but his version of the Queen classics was surprisingly good.

As far as I remember this is interpreted as homage to the guitarist from their original band Free (Paul Kosof) who died as in this song.
@GWard-hz5wj4 жыл бұрын
@hermit shack, I remember same as you. Paul Rodgers never got over Paul Kossoff's death. He said they all saw it coming & was a factor in the band's(Free) breakup. Kossoff died age 26, in flight to New York, from pulmonary embolus which many say was attributed to drug abuse. He was a great guitarist. YT has a lot of video coverage from his days with Free.
@Scaramousche19554 жыл бұрын
Paul Rodgers, the singer, was in a band called Free before Bad Company. The guitar player in that band, Paul Kossoff, was a rocker who's drug use caused a lot of problems in the band. His drug of choice was Mandrax, initially prescribed as a sleep aid, but later given the name Quaalude. While he didn't die directly of drug use, it was a major factor in the state of his health when he did pass...on an airplane flight that caused a blot clot to loosen and pass through his system. Rumor was always that this song was about Kossoff's life and passing.

@pauldiggin40044 жыл бұрын
Good job Alex. You got the meaning of the song. Paul Rodgers wrote it and it was a commentary on the rock stars we had lost, like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. It became very poignant when during the tour for this album ,Paul Kossoff, the guitarist in Free, died. It is one of those songs that everyone sings along to at Bad Company concerts. You guys should do a banger from them next. Can't Get Enough, Good Lovin' Gone Bad, Feel Like Makin' Love, Deal With The Preacher, Live For The Music, Run With The Pack, etc.
