Yes! One string is tied into the flap that opens. The rest are taped in place.

What kind of box did you use? I got one that was really hard to cut through.

Good question. I just found a box that the grocery store used to store bags of chips. It's thick but not too sturdy or hard to cut through. I hope that helps!
