One scene I wish made it into the movie from the book is the moment when Brody is out on deck at night and feels like he’s being watched and looks off the bow to see the shark just floating there staring at him.

Love this scene. I actually find this scene more suspenseful and foreboding than previous scenes before it. The sharks unseen presence is what drives the movie. When it damages the boat and all is quiet and still it's like the shark is saying "Now you are mine."

There are actually TWO shooting stars in the clip. The first one appears just after Brody gets his pistol out of his bag and Hooper is asking if he is okay. You can see it in the background. The second is in the final shot of the boat at night in the upper left of the screen while Quint is singing.

This is what I would have done in this situation with Brody quint and hooper,one,I would have grabbed a scuba tank and threw it at the shark to blow it up,hooper said earlier that if you mess up scuba tanks,THEY WILL EXPLODE ON YOU. Second,I would have then ran to the front deck and harpoon the shark in the nose. The nose of a shark is its most sensitive point. And three,I would have gone full throttle on the orca and rammed into Bruce.it would probably make Bruce unresponsive.

You wonder if Spielberg and the editor thought it was a glitch or a flaw in the film print. There was a animated cartoonist who liked to draw hairs at the corners in the frame that characters would notice and pluck out. I read that editors would see the individual frames and thought there was a hair in the lense!

Can't be real. As much as I want to believe it is. There are two shooting stars, about 5 seconds apart, and each is going in an opposite direction relative to the boat. Typically meteor showers originate from one point/direction in the sky. Albeit the boat is moving. Second, I believe most of the night shots from Jaws were filmed during the day with a blue lens filter. With as much visible sparkle on the water and the definition in the clouds at the end of the scene, I think this was a day shot. Otherwise, why forego the opportunity to get a cinematic shot of the boat with the full moon in the sky? I think the shooting stars were added for effect, to reinforce the illusion of night time and add atmosphere. Finally, and most simply, shooting stars don't usually look like that in real life.

Something I noticed. In this scene, Quint uses up five of the eight rounds he had in his M1. He shot once, but then needlessly racked racked the charging handle again. That wasted a live round. Then either a misfire or a jam happened. He had to rack it again. But the next two fired fine. Cut to the next day, when Brody uses it to kill Bruce. When he finally blew up the tank, you could see that was his last round. Which means only six rounds were in it. So, did Quint shoot more, off screen? Or what could have happened?
@MerSherr
@MerSherr 2 жыл бұрын
I've had an ejection but failure to feed in a Garand before. Could have fired, round was ejected but the weapon didn't pick up/chamber the round. As for cycling it a few times and still not chambering a round, he could very well have short stroked the bolt while charging also failing to properly feed the weapon.

Its the red flashing light that Hooper runs to grab as Quint is getting ready to harpoon the shark. It is so they can track it at night. "Hooper where are you?"

OK I am gonna comment again!!! People this is a movie about a shark. Not a shooting star or a UFO. Now you can choose to believe that in this scene it is a shooting star or you can choose to understand physics which is to say around this exact same scene it shows this "shooting star" coming from the complete opposite direction first you see it come from the far right middle of the screen moving all the way to the left then you see it re-enter the scene from the top left hand side of the screen. Shooting stars move with such fast speeds that there is no way it could change completely opposite direction. Which means it might be a UFO!!! I feel like this was something caught on film. You can choose to believe what you want to believe it is. One thing I am sure of is shooting stars do not complete change course and move in completely opposite directions once they shoot off into one specific direction. Only the director of the movie would know whether it was caught on film or put in the scene for whatever reason and if it was put in the scene How and why was it put in the scene? It is rare when I like a part 2 better then a part 1 but I like Jaws 2 a little better because he gets right up on the shark to kill it in part 2

I have a question at 2:54 in the background did the director put that UFO in the scene or did they just happen to catch one on film ? No it isn't a shooting star (keep watching the background) shooting stars do not completely change opposite directions 3:05 (top left corner) As it goes behind a cloud. The Question is Special FX or something pretty amazing caught on film? If you read this it is my first post on the topic.

This is animation. You can entirely tell. Not the least of which is that all of this material was shot in the middle of the day.
@scottrocket3274
@scottrocket3274 3 жыл бұрын
@@roquefortfiles I'd like to write this off as animation but I done animation for years with a camcorder JVC Compact shooting 4 1/4's of a second frames to = 1 second of animated movement to owning a Motion Computing LE1700 Computer Drawing Tablet. If you were right and this is animated the type of animation it would be is called Rotoscoping when you draw on a clear piece of plastic directly over each frame. A good example of this is the movie Waking Life which is 100% the whole movie is Rotoscoped. But I don't think this type of animation was popular or used when this film was made and even if it would be used for something so insignificant to what the film is about. I will check the credits of the movie again (the ending) but i do not recall the credits saying animators might be for the title but not for what some are claiming this to be a shooting star. I zoomed into this "shooting star" not only did it change direction while going so fast it had a heat trail as it was moving which shooting stars do not do change direction.

@@roquefortfiles it's very impressive if your are right and the scene is shot in the middle of the day a hell of a camera lense filter to make day look like night then to have a shooting star/ ufo animated in there is a concept no one mentioned yet the thing is the movie is about a shark not a shooting star or a ufo like this movie was made in the 70's what was the budget?

It's strange how much disinformation is on the internet these days. The shooting star is a special optical effect, added in to the production. You pull up Google and the first result says it is "real" and it is not real. There is someone breaking down the special effect and how one can identify it based on freeze-frame of the photography and the kind of transition effects used. It is a special effect timed to the gun.

Won't argue to the contrary, for one, to my eye the two sitings show objects going in different directions. I've watched enough meteor showers to know that happens, but the direction of the second one looks like an artistic choice, not a continuity slipup. It leads the eye toward the frame, to my minds eye it would lead it to the edge it they were the same event.
