I love the old pumps. I have found that the rifling at the crown usually needs to be dressed up. Recutting the rifling at the crown really tightens the groups up. I've also made speed loaders that work great for packing ammo out to the field.

Wonderfully presented. I recall around 60 years back firing a gun like this at the fairground, rifle range, and I paid for 2 shots. The first shot knocked the bullseye out, and after I fired the second shot I thought I’d missed the target altogether; until the guy in charge said my second shot had gone though the same hole has the first. Wow! I thought, especially being just a lad back then. I so wish I had a gun like that now. Thanks for the memory 👍

The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago kzbin.infoUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.

They are wonderful rifles, iconic in the US. That peep sight is very nice on it. I have the rifle in .22 short and .22WRF. An interesting contemporary of the 1890 is the Remington Model 12, a more complex piece but very nice. I don't think it was intended as a youth rifle, more a small game rifle to put meat on the table and as a target gun. Thank-you for reviewing this rifle, I know you will enjoy it for many years.

I have always wanted a winchester pump .22, but just never got around to buying one. I have a neat chinese knock off of the browning designed .22 semiauto. I mainly these days use a Czech 452 bolt gun to kill the local grey squirrels since they rob my fruit and nut trees. I have so many other .22's that I do not shoot, that likely it does not make a good sense to buy another .22. I do have a unique Hungarian made pistol, a fromer stop pistol, but nothing else from that country. When it comes to owning guns the USA is still a great place and there is no registration in my state of Florida.

I learned to shoot with the same model takedown 1890 22WRF, with folding Lyman tang sight. It was a nice gallery gun. Some owners have apparently been brave or foolish enough to have their guns rechambered for 22WMR, and the loading mechanism modified to cycle the longer cartridge, but this seems foolish because of the higher pressures. It would also lower the collector value.

I love your channel. I live in the USA and I love old guns. I have been blackpowder fan before shooting modern guns. In the 1980s I got my start when all those wonderful reproductions coming from Europe. Sadly the blackpowder shooting sport had decline due to the high cost reproduction firearms. They were once very affordable and economical to shoot. Sadly after 9/11 the feds had put high regulations on blackpowder. They are no longer available in sporting goods stores. You can buy substitute black powder but it's not the same thing. One of the things I love about your shooting videos is the wonderful range where you go!! Are they up to the public or members only?
@deandeann15416 жыл бұрын
Your state is different than mine, black powder weapons still available at walmart etc, black powder still easily available, cap and ball revolvers are still cheap when you catch a good sale, eg black friday sales. My first cap and ball, a colt 1860 army, cost me $85 30 years ago, my 1851 navy cost me $130 on sale about 10 years ago, my rem 1858 cost me about $220 on sale a couple years ago, still very economical compared with my blackhawk. Especially if you cast your own balls at 2 cents each from ebay lead. Good homemade black powder is only about $5/lb, but it is easiest to buy it mail order 4 or 5 lbs at once to reduce the stiff federal hazard fees, you still get enough to last years for under $100. Its all what you want for your money.

I find that with this rifle, versus the lever action, that this rifle will give me a shotgun mentality to the shooting technique incorporated , whilst with a lever gun, I will take an extra moment and incorporate a bolt action precision technique with a breathing technique for more accuracy, but at the same time, the pump action shotgun technique is also extremely accurate. Ruminate upon that....

No Zamak, no aluminum, no MiM, no polymer, just blued or case hardened steel and American walnut. An accurate replica would likely run well over $1K regardless of where it might be made today. Remember, though, an ounce of gold in those days was about $30. That tells us how severely the Treasury and the Federal Reserve have slowly swindled away the real value of the US dollar.
