My dad s first gun was this one but with a octagon barrel. IN 2006 I found an exact gun he had as a child and was a birthday gift for him. My dad almost wept when he unwrapped his first gun ever as a child of 4 or 5 in 1940. This gun is in my collection now and will always have a special place in my gun collection.

The 1906 I have is 3rd generation in my family made in 1913 (basic model w/round barrel). Grandfather bought it from a bankrupt traveling carnival in 1932. Looks like if had some very rough years before we go it.. Twenty years ago the rifling in the barrel finally wore out....bullets started tumbling. Fortunately a place called Heritage Forearms had a new barrel and it is accurate as ever again. Other than cleaning the action has never been touched. I cannot imagine how many rounds have been through it. All I know is I've been using it for 52 years and it still will pick off .22 casings at ten yards. My son and daughter took their first shots with it and about the time the grandkids get old enough it will be time to pass it along. Single screw takedown been on many hikes over the years. Taken squirrels, rabbit and on a backpack trip with my daughter in '95 a coyote that got stupid. I only put a few hundred rounds a year though it anymore so no doubt it will be going long after I am gone. I would say it's a good gun.

Thanks John for sharing the story. I long have believed that the stories are as important as the gun (which is why I do the restorations). Following my dads death, I inherited his personal firearms, and along with them all the stories (there are many). I have written them down on a tag and attached them to the gun. My hope is that the stories follow the guns through time. Thank you for watching the video, and thank you for taking time out of your day to comment! Means a lot.

I have a .22 with a plastic butt plate. I have disassembled, cleaned, to new. It only likes the shorts. I can’t eject the long or long rifle. My barrel says short-long dr long rifle. Serial number 512876. Does anyone else have this problem?
@SixRoundsStudio2 жыл бұрын
If this gun was used as a gallery gun it was most likely shot with shorts only (also during the time of its use many owners would only shoot shorts). What often happens when a 22 is shot for a long period with only shorts, the chamber erodes just ahead of the brass. This leave a recess that when a long is loaded and shot, the brass will "flow" into that recess, effectively trapping the case in that recess (trapping it in the chamber). The extractor isn't strong enough to hold the rim to extract the case. Without relining the barrel, most likely you will be stuck just shooting shorts (if you can find them). Hope this helps?
@brianmihlfeith7135 Жыл бұрын
The Model 1906 DID NOT REPLACE the 1890!! It was made concurrently with the 06 through their production (parts cleanup until mid to late 30’s.) The 1906 didn’t replace the 1890. It was made alongside the 1890 to offer a cheaper alternative. The 1906 also used gumwood instead of walnut (though some were still made of walnut.)
@SixRoundsStudio Жыл бұрын
Well Brian...I guess semantics and context is important for communicating accurate information...so we can we agree that the 1906 was not a direct replacement for the the 1890. However it certainly did what the "bean counters" wanted...making a rifle that was less expensive, and more popular, yet built in the image of its predecessor. Between 1907 and 1932 Winchester sold approximately 220 K of the 1890..but changed its model designation to the Model 90 c.1919 (no longer calling it the 1806). The Model 1906 however remained largely unchanged throughout its entire production run from 1907 to 1932. Between 1906 and 1932 Winchester built 848 K of the 1906...that is nearly four times as many rifles as the 1890/mod 90 made during that same period . So yes, we can agree that both models were built concurrently...we also need to agree that the reduced cost of production of the 1906 equaled a lower retail cost and more sales, and higher production rates for the 1906...and by implication...a "replacement" for the 1890. Total production 1890/mod90 its entire production run of 42 years was 849 K. Total production of the 1906 was 848 K for its production run of 26 years (that is significant). And yes Gumwood was a usual wood for many Winchester rifles, including the 1894/Mod 94. Great conversation Brian...hope you watch more of my vids. Oh...and one more thing! The "all caps" for emphasis is not needed. I am a reasonable man always willing to discuss and learn new things.
