This is my best friend y’all, and it’s such a thrilling experience to see someone who’s so hardworking and resilient to finally have their voice. Thank you so much Paulie for giving a platform and interviewing my friend, she’s always out in her community shooting and plays a big role in it too. It was actually my first time seeing how Sonia shoots since I’m now out of state, and it was heartwarming in my eyes because it felt up close and personal, just like how she’s up close and personal with her subjects in her photos. And she’s always emphasized that throughout the years that’s I’ve known her! It’s commendable how far she’s come, and Sonia is only going to continue on growing and giving others in her community a voice through her art and activism, so I personally want to thank everyone who’s been supporting her, then and now (and in the future ;) ) 💓💓💓 LOVE YOU SONIAAAAAAA

Nikon F3! Hell yeah🔥 Being a New Yorker, I love that she actually knows the people in the chinatown community. one of my pet peeves is when people who don't know anything about the community, don't try to engage with the community and won't even shop or eat at the local places in the community come in to snap photos then leave!
@Anon54387
@Anon54387 8 ай бұрын
There's no law that says you must be part of a community to take photos in an area. Think about it. If we all followed that rule we'd only take pictures in towns and neighborhoods where we had lived. That'd be very limiting.

Nobody is saying you NEED to be apart of the community. I said it was dope she actually knows people in the community and she’s not it dropping in to take photos then leaving! My point is, if you wanna photograph Chinatown, or Harlem, or Coney Island. You should be supporting the business and the people that make that community unique!

Neekons don't have a bad rep in film photography, what is she talking about? A lot of legendary photographers shot Nikon. That F3 documented some of the most important moments in history. The lens she's using is one of the highest rated lenses... This is a professional, well-respected setup, nothing "underdogish" about it. It's not a leica which is cool but that's about it.

@@mauriciodeuriarte7861 It's the 28mm 2.8 but the series E version is basically a cheaper version of the normal one in terms of build quality (plastic) but I think the optical quality is identical. It's a very photojournalistic set up, imo

nikon systems definitely don't have a bad rep in film photography i'll agree on that. most of the photographers i get inspired by especially masahisa fukase used an f3 with a 35mm. i'm just basing this off my personal experience when encountering old heads that go off on a tangent about how leica's are what i should be shooting with in the street since they are "faster". but anyways my beefy setup is respected by the real ones 🫡

As a Nikon user I'm curious about the 28mm series e and what it's like on the street when zone focusing. It only has scale markings at f/11 and f/22, but nothing else, no f/8. Is it pretty easy to measure f/8, even without the scale markings? Apologies for the nerdy question.

My mom is the same way as hers. Oddly enough my mom’s friend I’ve known since I was a kid is more supportive about it and my photographic endeavors. I can’t tell if she means it because it’s hard to distinguish it and be open about my hobbies because all of the people close to my mom who sees my camera have their doubts. Which is fair because it’s not a good career path. However with my mom’s friend who is supportive, she just listens, will ask questions and understands that I have interests. Shoutout to all the supportive immigrants!

Thanks for introducing me to Corky Lee and Justine Kurland. A series exploring a mother-daughter relationship would be a unique exploration for Sonia. @@philipnikolaidis4338 The words “popular” and “successful” have different meanings. “Popular” refers to something that is common among the general public or widely admired 1. On the other hand, “successful” refers to something that results in success or achieves the desired effect 2. For example, a movie can be popular if it is watched by many people, but it may not be successful if it does not make a profit. Similarly, a person can be successful if they achieve their goals, but they may not be popular if they are not well-known. It is important to note that popularity and success are not mutually exclusive. A person or thing can be both popular and successful. Why do street photographers hate Nikons?
@JesterCss
@JesterCss 8 ай бұрын
Nikon hate is mostly a digital-world thing from what I can tell. The stereotype of a Nikon user is the polo shirt tucked into cargo shorts, long white socks with dad sneakers and a baseball cap wearing person who mainly does wildlife photography. Not sure where that came from. I don't think people actually *hate* Nikon, I suppose people just heavily prefer other cameras. My grail camera right now for street though would be the Nikon SP 2005.
@Anon54387
@Anon54387 8 ай бұрын
@@JesterCss So basically it is snobbery. As far as the polo shirt etc. there is some implication there going over my head. Surely people are free to wear what they choose and I'd much rather see someone dressed as you describe than those who run around looking like a total slob.
