Hi from Thailand! My aunt got a more basic version of this car in the mid 80’s. I was in kindergarten, so it was my very first memory of our family’s “brand new car”. It was about 300,000 baht or $12,000. Rode it to school for several years. It was the car I learned to drive with when I was 16. It came with no power steering, manual transmission with 4 cylinder 1600cc engine. Everything was manually operated but there was one luxury, the rear seat reclined! We sold it in the mid 2000’s and got about 6,000 baht ($150) for it. We had a few more Mitsubishi in the family but this Galant was the one we had for longest.

Thanks for that one! I love this Mitsubshi. I grew up in the mid eighties, working at a Mitsu dealership's in-house petrol station. Having showroom access (After hours lol) able to see an check out all the goodies: Lancer ECI Turbo (the ralley champ), the first gen Pajero 4WD, Starion (wow) etc. But I am big lover of luxury sedans so this one ticket all my boxes. Love the blue velour (how could you prefer leather over that?). In Europe this was sold a a Sapporo, and like it's coupe predecessor based on the Galant. It was marketed as a hard-top, I believe because of the frameless windows. We did not get this smashing V6 but a 2.5 petrol only (still a decent performer though, and probably better suited to the European buyers. I never sold in big numbers but was clearly aimed at taking on German mid-size luxury (BMW, Merc, Audi). In Australia (my current place of residence) it was a now show, in fact Aussie build their own Mitsu mid size, and was very successful at it: the Magna! It was designed for the though Aussie conditions and a wider version of the Galant (but similar looking). I was I could find a Sapporo/Sigma here but I probably need to search or a RHD on the UK or Japanse market for grey imports. The only negative about this one (apart from the original radio having been removed) is that the wheels are not original. I've checked old US market brochures and the originals looked better, especially the 88 model year (same as UK/Euro market). Keep up the great work, and maybe you'll find a Starion Wide body one day!

Wow! man I love this car. I felt your excitement sitting in the back of the car. That's where I sat mostly when my sister would come to pick me up.Her boyfriend owned the car but she usually drove it. It was a rare car at that time, I believe he bought the car in 1990. He was excited about how rare and well equipped it was. He was in his 20 and I was about 12 at the time. He spent hours outside cleaning and detailing that car and I was right there with him admiring his car. He always reminded me it was the Sigma model of the Galant and that why it was so special. He was not kidding that car was gorgeous. The things that made it so special was the sleek yet muscular boxy exterior and all of the electronics in the interior. His had a remote steering wheel with volume n a few other buttons on the lower part of the steering wheel, automatic trans and air suspension. I had never even heard of air suspension at that time but there was a car level indicator screen mid dash. Not to mention it was fast with that v6 exhaust growl.😍😍😍😍

Cool find!! People today forget car sizing in the 80's - this was about a Maxima back, then and a smidge bigger than the Camry. in 1988 Hyundai was still down in the (then self-destructing) Excel range, and Kia wasn't even a thing, so Mitsubishi was where you looked for high content low price alternative to the Maxima and (not quite) Cressida. You got more than a Camry, or even an Accord, and remember neither of them had a V6 yet. Lots of goofy features for your dollar, but a flaccid suspension and you weren't going to fool your Maxima neighbor that this was a 'sport sedan' (he was into his own delusions anyway). The trade off - instant value crater 'cause no one knew what the heck it was.

Oh heck yeah! an American Mitsubishi V3000! These were awesome police cars back in the day here in New Zealand. Assembled by Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand (formerly Todd Motors) in Porirua, these things were designed to take on the V6 Commodore and Falcon (hence the famous ad "More Tow Than An Aussie Tank"). the NZ V3000's were sedans not the 4 door hardtop like what's in the video (that's similar to the 1989 only JDM Mitsubishi Duke V3000). You have no idea how much I was fizzing when I saw this pop up in my recommended videos. I'm such a huge Mitsubishi V3000 fanboy, and there's next to nothing on these cars online. I've recently set up a Facebook group for the V3000 (got tired of looking up info on them) 'Mitsubishi V3000 Owners NZ' easy as to find. Its a private group though so I have to accept your request manually.

I am 100% convinced that by 2080, the majority of the worlds historians will consider smartphones to have been addictive, and will be looking back at how car interiors changed in a desperate attempt to make it somehow "safe" to operate touchscreen internet-connected computers while driving; and be pointing to it as an example of how hopelessly addicted everyone was, just like we now do when we see all the ashtrays in cars from the 70's.
