These were something else when they came out by absolutely dominating every stock vehicle at the dragstrip. It had no competition till the E55 AMG came out soon after. I was also witness to seeing more than a few of these grenading their fragile IRS rear ends with drag radials. Still these were awesome for their time.

I remember working at a gas station when these came out our local Ford dealer (owner) bringing this identical Mustang and a Red Lightning (non-EV) in and he was absolutely enamored with that supercharger whine. He was 💯 a car guy and he was genuine. Unfortunately he had a rare medical condition and died a couple of years ago. His three sons easily could have taken over the dealership but two of them got into hard drugs and third son now only manages the “detail” portion of the facility 🤦♂️

Completely under-rated at 390HP - probably closer to 430. The IRS was a game-changer, even though drag racers tended to break them. The Tremec 6-speed was a modern-ish day Rock Crusher.

Ford learned their lesson when it came out that the Cobra was over-rated and not delivering advertised power so they went to the other extreme and we're all happy for it.
@COBRO9828 күн бұрын
Yeah they often made 390 at the wheels stock, I remember dyno'ing them back then. That's about 450 crank horsepower.

Wet noodle is funny af lol, I don't have a terminator cobra but I have a 2000 mustang gt convertible, sadly had no choice but to drive it in a snow storm one year, I went through so much with this car over the past 2 years. Have some maintenance to do and a catless x pipe with a sr performance catback to go on it just as a starter setup as im in college. One day I will be able to restore it 😊

Still a very, very strong car twenty years later with 390 HP and 390 lb-ft. I love the supercharger as opposed to the modern turbos. Ford really did a good job here.

I drove a king cobra 512hp at a dealership in 04. I thought it was the extras that the dealer did along with the belts. The clutch was aweful. I just kept thinking my 89 5.0, 89 ZR1 and 97 Camaro Z28 are so much better on my legs. Still not as bad as a Testarossa. That car is like trying to pull off the steering wheel with my foot trying to tip a cemented to the ground park bench.

A fast car to me as a kid in the UK was the Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis and not to mention the Japanese imports. The first time I knew about American muscle cars, it blew my mind how much power you could have got for $35000 or so. I used to hunt down grainy mid-2000s DV-camera footage of street races that people would post online and a lot of the time it was either a tuned Corvette or one of these just bitch-slapping anything they went up against. Probably not 'sophisticated' but who gives a shit when it sounds and looks like that?

Ford, GM & Chrysler were trying to cut costs, so they used cheaper quality parts and materials when building their cars resulting in poorer build quality. Ford used too cheap plastics on the wing and light

How bad was the driving experience? It sounds like it was sketchy which for people like myself spells fun but how would you describe it? Oh and if you REALLY want to experience sketchy, try driving a Fox Body Mustang 5.0 around a corner in the rain without any driver aids. Ask me how I know! 😂🤣😆
@AwesomeFinish23 күн бұрын
He kind of over exaggerated a little on that. I used to daily a Terminator that was identical to that one and it wasn't bad at all. I could see where it might be a little more involved than a civic which he's probably used to driving.

"Supercharged V8 wet noodle" 😂 On the SN-95 Mustang, the torsional rigidity of the convertible is like a third of the hardtop -- it's not good! The SN-197 is a lot better though.

Heavy, bulky, and not athletic. This generation of Mustang was no fun. Sorry, 2005 and up are light years ahead.

The NewEdge was lighter than every Mustang that has come after it by several hundred pounds.. they're also physically smaller..
@AwesomeFinish23 күн бұрын
What you said makes zero sense because it's wrong. Sure 2005 up were a new design with newer technology and better ride quality.. and that was expected since the Fox platform was designed in 1978. However, these Mustangs were lighter and smaller than the 2005 up cars.
