I've got a 2002 Kia Rio. I bought it for $4000 in 2006. It had 52,000 miles on the odometer, and I became its third owner. The car had a shiny paint job with a showroom fresh interior. It's not a flashy car and doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it has a good heater and air conditioner. Door locks and windows are manually operated. I've owned a lot of cars...all kinds of makes and models. I've got to say I like the Rio. If I had to pick a good, reliable people's car for the masses, The 2002 Rio would be my choice. Good review of the car. I actually learned some things about the Rio I didn't know...the Mazda engine and Ford transmission. The one I use as my around town car is in excellent condition. There's no rust. The engine is clean. I had it repainted so the exterior looks new and the interior still looks great. I'll probably never sell my Rio.

I took it too a hundred, my old manual, we got tboned by a Honda Fit and took that fucker with us. Dear god my little Korean shit box held together, my noble steed with no tachometer. How high did you rev it, you never knew but it’s still moving so eh, that’s okay.

My dad had the same exact one, 2002 rio in steel blue. He bought jt new in September of 02. Fun memories with the car. Sold the car in 2008-09. I miss that car. Think abt it everyday

Somehow, my grandma had 01 rio wagon in her driveway with 78k miles in 2023. Put a timing belt on it right there in the driveway, fixing to put front struts motor mounts and cv axle. All the rubber on it is toast as to be expected.

I got given one. 294,000 KMs. Drove it 600 kms home without a single issue. Not even a single rattle. Bit rough inside and out, but mechanically sound. I'll take it to 500,000 easy.

The MAF sensor always had to be changed once or twice a year. The Kia has over 136,000 miles, and the interior and exterior are intact, no rust or anything, and the hundreds are intact. The air conditioning broke down recently. Since I was little I have always had a connection with my Kia, now I am waiting for the summer holidays to end to put my 2004 Kia ​​Rio to work.

@@SneakyBarker yeah I’ve had my 2002 Kia Rio 5 speed since 2013 and in late 2015 it had transmission problems but the only thing it needed is a new transmission and after that it has become a good again never had a problem with it since that and it sure can beat my piece of shit Ford Fiesta but my 2000 Toyota Avalon and 2010 Toyota Corolla and my 2016 Kia Rio sx and my 2018 Kia Rio 5 door ex sure are great asf to but I am very sorry that yours had problems

@@isaac24 I regularly see pre face-lift fourth gen Hyundai Sonatas, first gen Kia Sportages, Rios, and Sorentos. I don't expect to see pre face-lift 4th gen Sonatas, but I see about 4 a week; mostly clapped out and driven by an old chain smoking woman. I'd love to have a first gen Sportage or Sorento to turn into an off-road beater.

Based on Ford Aspire platform. Engine and tranny are Mazda and that transmission is notorious for failing. Sephia outsold the Rio and was far more successful than the Rio. Many of these parts and interchangeable with the Ford Aspire suspension

This was the most disconnected car I ever Drove. At least easier to see out of the back end than next generation. I drove both in manual brand new. Second one was definitely more engaging and zippier. Nicer interior. Both crank windows base models. Came close to buying a white left over 2017 model base. Mere $10,600 with discounts. But that rear window vision Sucked, and I found a 30k mile 15 Scion XB for less that I liked better. Much better. Its a long timer for me.

The Versa is a better bottom of the barrel economy car. They were under 10k for a long time, and still offered in MT.

Same I have a 02 Kia Rio it’s a 5spd and it’s emerald green it has 85k miles gotten it in 2002 brand spanking new it only had 75 miles when I first got it it wasn’t zippy when I first got it but in 2013 it started getting zippy but got me to point a to point b still have it in 2020 still running strong never give me a issue just only oil changes and new tires every couple years

Only the small overlap is rated at Poor for the 2015 model year, but most cars were performing very poorly on the small overlap in 2015 since it was a new test.
