This is definitely not the first AWD convertible, Audi had the Cabriolet (that was its name) in the 90's and the TT throughout the 2000's, with AWD (though optional).

I have heard that top has a bunch of sensors and is very difficult to repair. If there are issues. the Nissan dealership will not touch the convertible top and acts like this car doesn't even exist. If you have issues with the convertible top, you will have to find a independent mechanic to repair, good luck with that!

Yep a few years ago I saw 10k repair bills on the forums.

Around 2016 I was working at a Nissan dealer and a customer under warranty had a convertible top issue and it was repaired under warranty. The Top had to be replaced and the warranty claim was close to 12k.

Beth loved your review and agrees with most of your points. I've personally always recoiled at the look of it with the top up, but top down i dont think it looked half bad. I really think this car would have done better as a coup hatch with a hard top that just kind of slid back under the hatch and road on a little tray that went up and down with the hatch. Having a roof line profile more akin to the Callaway C7 Corvette Aerowagon shooting brake. Not because it would look better though some may like it better, but because it could retain more SUV functionality, though rear visibility would probably be even worse. But this would give you a proper B pillar, and could have allowed for the rear seats to fold down/come out and access/extend the rear cargo like a normal SUV

At least Nissan tried something different. Unfortunately, two-door convertible SUVs like this and the Range Rover Evoque convertible weren't what anyone was looking for. I wouldn't call it ugly, just unique.

I think they were asking too much money for it. I'm curious if a boxy small crossover coupe or maybe a coupe with rear suicide doors would sell well? Make it just really rugged looking. And tbh it would depend on the brand. If Toyota made a crossover version of a FJ and kept the price under 30k they would probably fly off the shelves.

I love my Murano Cabriolet! ❤💯 It is a "UNIQUE" vehicle and that is exactly why I bought it.😊 I purchased a 2011around 2015 or so (with about 35K miles). It now has close to 70K miles (I did not drive it much within the 1st few yrs of when I purchased it). It drives well and it's a smooth riding vehicle (3.5L V6).

@@doug6191 with people buying up coupe suvs like the bmw x6, audi q8 and mercedes glc coupes like hotcakes... Yes it was. If nissan made an infiniti branded coupe SUV convertible, it would sell like the bmw x6. This was just slightly too early in the suv craze
@doug6191
@doug6191 6 ай бұрын
@Shiinamusiclyricssubs None of the examples you offer are convertibles. The only othe convertible crossover that I can recall is the Range Rover, and that also sold poorly, indicating that it's still not time for a convertible crossover. The Nissan wasn't ahead of a time that doesn't exist. If anything, Acura's ZDX was ahead of its time, as that awful model preceded the BMW, Mercedes, and Audi "cOuPe" crossovers by several years.

Nissan had weird cars in the 2010's. Interesting that they offer a heated steering wheel on a convertible. On the Toyota Corolla, they only offered the heated steering wheel in Canada and not the United States

well canada is special. its cold overall in the worst of areas of certain buyers. why did honda cave on 1.5 l issues there ? The cold. Sad they thought the states buyers didn't notice, despite same complaints. Honda makes great engines, but who the hell approve the 1.5l ? Too efficient was the excuse. Nah Honda - transmission blow ups we ignore. Fuck an engine, and you can suck it and take the wrath.

don't dare that cvt and engine combo. I was literally getting free oil changes around that time as the dealer that also sold nissans. So many suv nissan cvts getting the kiss goodbye, and the normal women turning to karens after being fucked with either walking home, waiting 5 hours for a ride or getting what they deserved - a prompt loaner until tossing the POS. I'm a mopar fan to death myself. Even i say to average people to stay the hell away from certain products and such. Sometimes it is because someone won't notice a domino issue of typical neglect, it isn't a proper product to get, or it is unproven for what they risk. The late model Dart for instance. i know too much about that potential wonder car from too may aspects, but I couldn't ever suggest one. Never buy this nissan unless you just want to watch it decay, or want to drive you literally nuts. it is just shit. period.

I worked at a Nissan dealership in Canada that imported a few of these back in the early 2010s. The first three left the showroom almost instantly. Then the four after sat on the lot for months before discounted heavily and eventually sold. This was never officially sold in Canada so no warranty claims, no service manuals, and the most important of all, no one that knows to how to work on the top. One of the guys that bought one new loved it so much that he bought another one from a shady used car dealer.

The biggest misstep since they had already engineered two-door version was not offering a hardtop Coupe to pick up sales from people looking for big comfy 2 door cars like the t-bird Monte Carlo or even more luxury cars like eldorados or Mark series, they're still is a market for large two-door cars, more than there are for convertibles, and once you've already engineered the two-door and windows for this body style, it would be very easy to attach a fixed roof to help sales volume of the model . Chrysler made the same mistake with the PT cruiser, only offered a two-door in the convertible completely abandoning the prolithic sleek, cool two-door hatchback market with a cleaner, sleeker design as the original concept car was shown.

Your final thought summed it up well. It was like a Swiss Army knife, but none of the blades or doo dads in said knife ended up being very useful. The ride was fine for cruising as long as the road was nice. The trunk was a joke considering its a suv, and at close to 50k was expensive. Styling is subjective, but I think they look weird versus luxurious. Also Nissan claimed it was the first AWD convertible crossover...not just AWD convertible.
