I'd like to imagine an alternate timeline where dodge made an excursion with the viper v10 or the cummins diesel
@weegeemike7 ай бұрын
Me too. Dodge should've stayed in the full size, full frame, full size truck-based SUV market after the Ramcharger was discontinued. Could've been based on the 2nd geb Ram. Funny that Mexico got a 3rd gen Ramcharger based on the Ram but we didn't. They would've made a killing in the 90s and early 2000s. The Durango was cool, but a full-size Dodge SUV would've been awesome. I know for a fact my mom would've owned one. When her '86 RC was getting older in '99, she went to the Dodge dealer to check out the Durango. It was just a little too small for her so she wound up with a GMT400 '99 Yukon instead. She's a Mopar loyalist so if Dodge had a full size SUV back then she definitely would've bought one.

And I like to imagine an alternative universe where Ford always had a Chevy/GMC Suburban competitor called the Excursion dating back to the 1940s and based on the F-series platform.

@@weegeemike I could never understand how Dodge didn't see Ford and GM printing money from big SUV sales and think to do that themselves. Well there's a reason they needed to be bailed out by Chinese investors I guess. Obviously business decisions weren't the company's strong suit.

@@weegeemike If memory serves, I recall Chrysler engineers tried VERY HARD to bring an updated RamCharger to market. But they just couldn't get the fuel economy to where Chrysler wanted it to be. I don't think the feds had a hand in this one. Mexico got one because their emissions standards were a LOT looser than ours. Hence the smaller (yes, I know midsize by 90's standards) Durango. Remember, in the 90's, only Ford saw the suv market coming. Or so I've read.🧐🧐

You were ON FIRE in this review! This is one of America's best vehicles, definitely best SUV ever. I expect to see these being preserved, having the distinction of being the largest SUV ever, the cool V10, cool, imposing styling. A true sign of the times of the optimism of the Millenium era, before the world went sideways. This SUV IS America. It's unique and special and only was made in limited years, like so many classics. It stands out. Especially in a world DROWNING in smaller lookalike white/gray SUVs that are so generic. The worst crime with this truck? NO LINCOLN VARIANT! They made variants of the Escape, Explorer and Expedition, this largest most boss Ford SUV needed an even plusher Lincoln version to sit above the Aviator and Navigator as THE ultimate SUV, to dominate the world with brash, no holds barred Americanism. Lincoln Dominator has a nice ring, actually. (Btw, if it had been bright red like you said, it would look like a firetruck! In fact, I think I've seen them as part of a fire department fleet, lol, so I think subdued colors are the right choice for such a huge vehicle that draws attention with its size and power, doesn't need neon colors to get noticed lol !)

@Jack_Stafford7 ай бұрын
Yeah, looked after market to me too, the owner probably (and understandably) wanted a soft place for an armrest instead of a table. The BOSS move would have been to make an insert that fit under the clip that was soft on one side for an armrest, but reversible with a smooth hard surface if you needed a table/desk. Bewm! The Pontiac Aztek had cool thought out features like that... we need more unique and special cars and SUVS like these again...

I think the real reason you don't see F-250/2500 based SUVs anymore (I believe they made a 2500 Suburban with a Duramax too) is because of how much the F-150/1500 platform has changed now compared to 20 years ago. An F-150 today is almost as capable as the F-250 of yesteryear. I mean think about it, a Tundra or F-150 can tow 12,000 pounds at that point if you need to tow more than that... you probably need a fifth wheel trailer so get a truck. At the point where the current Expedition and Sequoia are so capable I just don't see where a modern 2500 based SUV fits into any use case or need.
