Very good video no red squirrels in my area of the UK but still do a fair bit of grey squirrel control mainly off feeders with hw100 .Good way of controlling as minimal disturbance and just take out the target species . Was a lot of squirrel damage on the trees last year with it being so dry . Do you know what size bolt and what thread that is that goes in the trail cam for your DIY mount ? So I can try find a supplier for bolt and wing nut already got vine eyes .

Mick, I see your feeders have a number on them, do you buy them in or make your own??
@mickgarveyairattackmia4722 Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan … good question … I used to make my own from timber but the wood holds traces of urine etc from the greys which can transmit diseases to the reds so I changed to making them from metal. These feeders though are made from stokboard and supplied by the P&DRSG … although I have bought a few myself to help support the group. The numbers are for easy ID when viewing trail cam footage

Great video and great work 👍🏻, do you like .25cal fac for squirrels? I've just started shooting a.25 40ftlbs theoben rapid, and I just can't believe how good a .25 is I had fac 22cal but just hits so hard it's silly !! Chest shots drop them stone dead everytime , what is your take?
@mickgarveyairattackmia4722 Жыл бұрын
Hi Edward and another good question … with bit being fac it gives the option of an instant dispatch with a heart-lung shot at distance when the grey is hiding its head behind the branches or leaves etc … it’s definitely a great calibre in fac

I think We could really do with Your services here in Lancashire , problem is My employers are Further Education Providers , and the campus has a Strict No Guns on campus policy . Being a keen airgun enthusiast myself , I have approached the powers that be and they appear to be immovable . This is compounded by several roads situated close by meaning that perhaps as much as 50% is probably within 50 ft of the center of a nearby highway and therefor illegal to shoot from . Traps would go a long way but of course with a large populace of mostly misinformed animal loving students , any form of cull will almost certainly result in some form of protest from one group or another . Oh it is Sooo frustrating , the squirrels are bold and brazen and pretty much without fear frequently running across footpaths in broad daylight with pedestrians literally within feet of them , one even ran over My foot when it was startled by an unnoticed passerby . Thanks for a view of what it takes to be a Red Ranger and for doing such a good job of helping control the Grey Menace . catch you next episode . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.

Thank you richard for this great comment. I feel your pain and I’ve been in the same situation myself… keep at them and don’t relent and hopefully a little education with help with their understanding of the problem … regarding the 50ft law … it is open to various interpretations and often misunderstood … thanks again and good luck with the greys

Perfectly legal to shoot right next to a highway.

How did gray squirrels get started in the UK?
@denniscampbell8240 Жыл бұрын
Do you get the bot fly in the squirrels in your area ,,,aka wolves ,,,,,,,,,,in the Sept mths here n USA Alabama ,,,,,the bot fly lays its larva on them and they get in the skin of the squirrel ,,,,,,they can still be eaten because the larva don't get in the meat ,,,,,,,it just looks n sounds bad

Enjoyed the video , but anyone who has done any squirrel shooting will recognise that the first shot on the video was not ideal. It happens to all of us but i would personally not take a standing shot over 20 yards. Surely the aim of the game is to cause the least suffering as possible 👍
@mickgarveyairattackmia4722 Жыл бұрын
Rest assure Marty the kill was instant both the cameraman and myself saw it land and stay put until I retrieved it … it kicked away from the feeder as part of reflex to being shot. The shot was supported and was only 35yards so slight hold was applied to take into account of my 46yard zero … but thanks for the comment it is much appreciated
