Surprised by the Fodera which sounded very nasal to me. My favourite was the Sadowsky (confession time, I have 2007 Sadowsky NYC 5 string in trans black over quilted maple with chrome hardware and ebony fingerboard. I use Sadowsky Black Label nickel strings)) with the Stenback a very close second.

First of all let me say your bass playing is absolutely world class. In regard to the basses they are all stunning instruments and they sound fabulous. The Sadowsky however has a little more presence and growl, as well as a killer finish.

Very cool. The Sadowsky sounds like a 70s pickup position, love the mids (Fodera also nice mid-forward tone) . The Steinbeck has a nice low-mid punch. The de girr? was very balanced overall.

listening to this again a bit later I must say all sound great but that German sadowsky sounds like a Fenderbass to me here and therefore its my fave of the bunch, nice one, great sounding playing :)) then again the Stenback makes it sound a bit more like Jamiroquai, super nice tone ::)
@Roogbass Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kai! After that clip I put elixirs on the Sadowsky. Wrong decision, doesn’t match. With Sadowsky strings it’s on its best. Same goes for the Fodera. I’m done with elixirs for now. The Stenback sounds like a 66 jazz. Love that. Thanks 😊👍🏽

Great playing and loved hearing your basses together! Any recommendations how to get ahold of the Lundgren pickups and/or Stenback bridge? Sander is building me a 4 string bass and I'm thinking same customizations as you. We got the same Stenback pickups but not those nice flush mount pickup covers. Many thanks.
@Roogbass Жыл бұрын
Thanks! 😊. Sander will be able to order the Lundgren pups. The Stenback bridge will be impossible. I would get sander’s vintage bridges, not massive ones. I had sawosky knobs, magnetic backplate en lollipop tuners. Good luck!

@gimmeagig Жыл бұрын
I like the Sadowsky best. I think that bass has the 60s pickup position, right? I have a Moon JB5 that sounds very similar. I get lots of compliments on the sound of that bass and it should be my favorite. But it isn't. Because I like Marcus I have been gravitating towards the 70 position J basses. But lately I'm starting to realize that the 60s position is better for many things. Except for slapping.
@Roogbass Жыл бұрын
Yep, 60ies is very versatile. I also do like the slapsound. But slapping on a 70ies configuration is special!

They all had fantastic sounds, but the Stenback stood out to me a little more than the rest. I like the overall sound and how the volume of the different strings is balanced. Nice playing also sir. :)
