Safety razors are making a comeback, people are sick of paying 50-60$ for 8 cartridges that last 4-5 shaves. A .15 cent double edged blade lasts me the same amount of time.

I love the point in this video, but you're killing me here. A few tips to make that shave even better - Take your beard down before putting a razor to it. - Prep your beard by steaming it first. A hot towel for two minutes or wash it with bar soap and hot water. The razor will cut through your whiskers like a hot knife through butter. - Rinsing your razor in a sink is a good way to get an infection. Do it under the faucet.
@TheGuitologist7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I'll use them.

@Long-Ball-Larry2 жыл бұрын
No need to take the beard down if you use the right tool - an open comb double edge safety razor - or a replaceable blade straight razor aka Shavette. Either a vintage Gillette Old or New Type or any other currently in production like a Merkur 15c/25c/41c (mild), a Fatip Picollo (full brass, mid aggressive) or a Mühle R41 (the beast) among many others. Closed combs/safety bar razors are for shaving daily. Never heard of anyone getting an infection by rinsing his razor in the sink. Sorry, but that's bull, unless you sh$t in your sink or never clean it.

If u use witch hazel or any aftershave with a little alcohol. Post shave . No worries. I've never disinfectant my sink before shaving. Never gotten infection from shaving

I have used the safety razor for the last several years and have been very happy with the switch. I bought 100 blades on amazon for about $13. Still using them, the blades last for a very long time and I shave every day, sometimes twice a day. So I would heartily recommend using a safety razor over other forms of razor, it has saved me quite a bit of money. Only thing is you have to respect the razor when you shave, don't go hacking at your face or you will be bleeding from several places. Just take it slow, realizing you have a very sharp instrument in your hands.

I bought a Mercur razor and some Feather Hi-Stainless platinum coated blades some time ago. Best shave ever. The blades are super sharp and superior to the Wilkenson and Gillette type blades. As you say, you need a light touch; don't press and let the weight of the razor do the work. I also use a badger shaving brush and shaving mug and soap to work up a good lather. Wash you face well before lathering up and re-lather before each pass over your whole face. Rinse well with cold water when done and you have a face smoother than a newborn's butt.

I went over to a DE razor, Edwin Jagger with Feather blades, four and a half years ago. I've used £25 worth of blades in that period. Absolutely fantastic. £25 of disposable blades used to last about 6 months and they were shit. They really irritated under my chin and throat, left me with hardcore razor rash. I initially went over to a Solingen cutthroat, which was awesome, but it has a steep learning curve and needs a lot of maintaining (although it will last several lifetimes). I did a bit of research and bought a DE. So so so pleased I did. I Will never go back to disposables. A DE razor, a nice hot shaving scuttle, shaving brush and a puck of, even a cheap, shaving soap and the world feels like a better place. Glad you posted this video, really like your channel. Loads of my friends now used DE razors. Spread the word. The big companies just want to rip you off. Get a DE razor, you will not regret it.

The Guitologist Hi Brad, is it possible to talk to you about my 1967/68 Silverface/Blackface Super Reverb? My household lights would go dim when an appliance started for several months. A power surge occurred 2 days ago that ruined a few things that were plugged in due to a bad neuteral wire coming from the power co, which was related to the dimming. I didn't think it damaged the amp, but the sound seems a little sour and not quite as loud since then. Do you think a portion of the components may have been damaged or is it my imagination? I'm a fan that has often wanted to ask you several other questions and thought perhaps you might even like to make a video of my odd-ball Silverface/Blackface amp, to show how to identify if truly a 1967 factory AB763 in a 1968 cabinet, but main question now is if you would you be interested in giving it the "once over"? Jack had this leather jacket that had utility blades sewn into the sleeves and shoulders, he'd get into the pit and slam with people, and they'd get cut up. He was a sick dude, but my god was he a brilliant performer......

Ah yes another good video. Safety razors are the only way to go & they are making a come back. Check out some of Geofatboy's you tube videos he has heaps on how to use safety & straight razors. You need to get rid of that shaving foam also & get the proper shaving soap & mix it up with the brush. Thanks again Brad.

Good video on the benefits of old-style DE shaving - now you need to learn how to shave properly (brush, block soap, better razor technique etc)

I've been shaving with a Merkur safety razor for almost a decade now. The blades are cheaper, last longer, and shave much closer. Mantic59 has an awesome channel dedicated to all things shaving.

Hey, Informative video. But, 1. There are bigger and better advantages of a safety razor that you havent covered (avoids ingrown hair, smoother shave, better for the skin) 2. Using canned foam with a safety razor is the equivalent of running an old amp modeller into a vintage tube amp. Sorry if im wrong, these are things i believe. Keep making amazing videos.

One thing I could add is that if you've never used a shaving oil you should try it. You'll never go back to shaving cream, shaving foam, shaving soap, or shaving gel. I've tried all five and shaving oil is best, the others aren't even close. Shaving oil and a safety razor are all I use.

G'day, Brad! A classic! I looked long and hard for a replacements for all those damn disposable razors with the colored/scented handles too (really though, who needs scented handles!?!). Tried lots of men's razors. Cut myself a lot hoping that my razors were still sharp enough for just one more shave, because I'm going out, and FORGOT TO BUY RAZORS. Great video! “Just a flesh wound” (also “’tis but a scratch”) Lol! Cheers! :D

As a kid this is what I started out on. I'm sure there are guys out there that remember the white stick used to stop the nicks from bleeding. Burned like hell but stopped the trickle in its tracks. Highly not recommend for youth with zits. My face laughs at disposable razors and electric shavers. It's amazing the price they charge for razors. It's highway robbery at best. I guess that's why I go a long time between shaving.

They are surprisingly cheap. You can get a razor with 5 blades and a couple accessories for around $15 on Amazon. And the blades are like 100 for $15. Last forever.

I started to use safety razor this summer and will not go back to disposables. In Finland Gil.. Mach3 set of 5 refill blades costs over 20 euros. I bought 50 Japanese Feather safety blades for 10 euros in eBay. And you need fewer strokes and end result is much better. Just using thick slick soap lather made from "Blue's soap" with brush.
@TheGuitologist7 жыл бұрын
Your experience matches my own. I used to get those stupid refill blades and I'll never go back now. Live and learn.

just got a decent safety razor for like a dollar and a pack of razor like 70 cents it really really the best way to save money rather than wasting your money on disposable razor which can not shave well for me nice video

To take off a full beard I would recommend an open comb safety razor old type. It would literally comb the hair into the blade. Also, ditch that can foam crap and invest into a good shaving soap and a brush. By the way, it is on the rise and has been for a long time. Many companies are making safety razors now and new ones are coming out all the time.

Here is where I am with disposables .. I use a shick hydro 5. I have a razorpit which extends the life of my disposal razors. I've been using the same one for 2 and a half months because of the razorpit. The razorpit aligns the razors micro chips in the razor due to the hair doing damage to the razor. What I am telling you all is the razorpit works. If a person could shave with the same razor for the minimum of 1 month with their disposable razor you have already started saving money. I've seen reviews on it. About 75% or more say it works for them. I am very happy I found this item. Pushing it I used a shick hydro 5 1 day short of 5 months. That's right 1 razor. I get really good shaves... I use a used toothbrush to clean my razor after use or in between shaving not hard to do and it works.

@TheGuitologist7 жыл бұрын
+blkjckgtrnut the blades are German, but apparently not the best. The Van Der Hagen razor is Chinese. Got at Kroger, but the carry at Target I think too, and maybe Wal Mart. But the best place to shop for this stuff cheaply is Amazon online.
@JeffRatliffhome7 жыл бұрын
I've been using a safety razor for decades. I've just recently started to see them in the stores again. I use a mug and shaving soap with a brush when I can get it (rather than shaving cream from a can). Safety razor blades are cheaper than disposable razors and do a better job so there is no reason to use disposables.
@mischef187 жыл бұрын
Yep had one of them there older types for a good 40 years but trying to track down blades is becoming harder. I shave my beard off once a year at the start of summer and find the older works far better. The newer ones I just use an old tooth brush to get the hairs out but still prefer the old one. Great video anyway. ATB

Amazon man. Get 100 blades and be done for a while: amzn.to/2yGpgRS $8 for 100 blades. That's at least 300-400 shaves for $8.
