Perfect timing, I was just starting to feel like I had given up too easily on my Jetta Sportwagen. It's such a fun car to drive and very practical for carrying kids and cargo, but I have never had a car resist repair quite as much as my JSW.

That’s about what has to be done on a BMW AWD x5 in order to replace the engine oil pan gasket. And than you have to replace the pan bolts with new ones because they are made of aluminum and can’t be reused. BMW stands for Bring More Wallet.

No wonder VW is in trouble now. Two cans of sardines in one can!

A busy man indeed! Plus your dog is a Brittany if I'm not mistaken? Great dogs, we have one. 'Monty' is our third. Love the Berkley.

A mechanic friend of mine said he can't believe how unnecessarily complex VW have made their cars.

It's absolutely mindblowing to see how complex modern diesels have become. Manufactures and Gov. Have taken the simplicity away......Almost not worth having. I will take a diesel Rabbit from the early 80s any day over this

The labor cost alone is going to be more than the car will be worth after you are done!

Modern German cars are just overengineered and poorly laid out for ease of ongoing maintenance, even more so than American cars. If that was my car I'd just keep it 'as is' and do the maintenance on it to keep it running; too costly to upgrade the turbo and add a bigger intercooler. Regarding German cars, how is the BMW Isetta with the chain drive (or brake) issue? I'd love to see what that looks like when taken apart.

Modern German cars are crap, the older ones very nice 😂

I nearly get angry when I see cars that were made to be difficult to service. When I'm elected dictator, I will forbid the manufacture of anything like that.

That's not a service or maintenance job. It's a ridiculous idea to squeeze out more power of daily driver bread and butter car which is even available with a more performative tdi engine.

I still don't understand why anyone really wants a bigger turbocharger in a 2.0 tdi because there is lots of power hidden in the boost control.
