I feel you on the "job loyalty" thing. I'm in uni right now, I've worked at a theatre since high school for the last 5 years, and even though I've thought of trying a new job I never do. Plus since I'll have a degree soon so I'll have to move forward career wise, but at the same time I'm still comfortable. I definitely admire people who run their own business or are always trying to move up and forward, not staying stagnant.

I recently did the "do whatever you want" to my hairstylist lol. I actually asked her if she would be comfortable picking colors. She's been dyeing my hair for a while and she was on board. I love this look! Every time I see one of your thumbnails I squeal, you are bringing the autumn/spooky vibes I need! 🍯 My best salon experiences have come from me saying “I generally want this,” and then letting the hair dresser do whatever they have to do to make it work. Or telling them that I won’t get back to the salon to get my hair redone at the exact time I should so make it so it’ll grow out in a flattering way. People have come up with such creative ways to make my hair look good that I would have never have gotten if I wanted my hair to look exactly like a picture. I’m glad to hear that it isn’t too overwhelming for some when I just give them a vague vibe I want 😄. You talking about your experiences reminds me of how much I want to be able to have my own business and be my own boss someday. Right now I’m at a place that’s a stepping stone and probably the last place I want to be before going out on my own, but that dream is several years down the road still. I’ve already modified my plans to make it so I have to rely less on customers year round and rely on myself more. That’s more risk, especially financially, but all business is a risk and I think I’ll be happier being more independent in the long run. Definitely relate to wanting to be able to grow and do things my own way, not work with coworkers, and not wanting employees. Nothing comes without its cons and sacrifices, but you are making me so excited about the future!

But the anxiety of disappointing someone or inadvertently messing up someone's hair kept me from getting an education/training for it... I have mad respect for stylists who can work their way up to owning their own place... I have had one stylist since 2012, I actually found her at Regis when we first moved here and then I just followed her everywhere else she moved chairs to... Unfortunately, haven't been able to get a hold of her since lockdown started so I'm really growing my hair out as a consequence of that... It is so stressful trying to find someone you vibe with and who you feel like you can trust... Also.... These colors are amazing! Stunning as usual, ma'am. 😊

I should have asked this before but I didn't so: Have you ever worked with different textured hair (curly/wavy/kinky)? Do you think cosmetology school prepared you enough for textured hair, and if not, are you interested in furthering your education to include those hair types?

I work with curly/textured hair sometimes but it’s definitely not my forte. I don’t think cosmetology school prepares us hardly at all for working with textured hair. It’s definitely something I’d like to get more well-versed in but at this time I truly just don’t have the extra time in my schedule to learn pretty much a whole new craft.

Our general practitioner doesn’t work with traditional insurance. She has her own business to where she allows people to pay her rather than deal with our horrible system. Awh that sounds so fun! At this time I don’t plan on doing virtual consultations since I wouldn’t be the one doing your hair, but I’ll update if that ever changes! I have such limited time with all my work & I’m not trying to add more on haha

I completely agree that the US healthcare and health insurance system is trash. But I have to disagree with not having any health insurance at all. When I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery the cost was $30,000. My mom's hospital bills from multiple surgeries and a 3-month ICU stay was over $1.7 million dollars (just for the hospital, not including the multiple rehabs afterward). We couldn't have afforded either of those costs with the savings we each had if not for health insurance and financial aid from the hospital. On a more positive note: Your eye look is so pretty. 🍯

I was at the first job for 2.5 years, and I’ve been at the second job for 2.5 years. I’m terrified to leave even though I’m desperately unhappy.
