I often judge a band by how badly I want to play bass in it. King Gizzard is at the very top of that list.
Lucas recently paid our shop a visit and we sat down to talk about his bass skills, KG's Microtonal Universe, socks, and more.
Enjoy!

11:40 this is why I love Gizz. I'm a newb bassist at age 43, been playing only 4 years, and Gizz songs are so much fun to learn on because as they progress as musicians, so do I.

Curious how the B-string sounds with a short scale, passive pickup in neck position, and flats. Seems to go against the “wisdom” of some bass players: 35”+ scale, bridge pickup, and rounds just to get the string to register in a mix.

He says F# Dorian, but then he says "with a flat 2 and a flat 6." So that's not Dorian then. And then he plays an F# Phrygian, which does have the flat 2 and flat 6. Unless it has something to do with the microtonal stuff and I'm just misunderstanding, that didn't make much sense.
