You're correct about spreading information . For me , it might not be vital , but I still like to know . As I type , someone else is posting a video about soft , offshore lifters . Getting real info is difficult because people want to sell their product....not inform the public . These videos , I'm sure , do both for Powell . Informed customers are the best customers . Keep it up , appreciate the effort .

The reason your doing well is because you take the time to talk to people and help them. Just as you did with me and my 460 which is going on my Kit car/ Replica Cobra. BTW Summit swapped out the SCJ-B heads #625 on the nose at 700, for SCA-A heads #365 ish on the nose at 600. Need to find some customers then I'll give you a call about a cam. Thanks Dan

A few years ago I bought 40+ new in box V-8 cams from Gearte Racing Engines in Indian when they went out of business. They did a lot of sprint engines. I haven't looked at all of them but it seems a lot of them have full round lobes. some are in 5 packs with other parts in them that I don't understand. Where would be a good place to sell the whole lot at a fair price. I have no use for them but I don't want to give them away.

The endurance guys told me to avoid dlc. Just a tiny bit comes off and there goes the whole motor. Cuts right through oil filter if your even lucky it does go through bypass valve. The absolute hardest sharpest material in the entire engine in a coating seams risky.

You just recomended an s7 tool steel for a blank to be machined by me. You didnot mention that here. I see that it comes anealed and can heat treat to rc55 so I assume it will need heat treated before grinding. I guess you send them off for that.

We do all customs from s7, we do top fuel and pro stock from s7 also, it can be 60 rockwell but we have to rough in the round lobe then heat treat, after heat treat the mains are ground then the lobes are ground.

Question? I'm working on a LS Chevy motor NAMELY A LATE MODEL STOVE BOLT 235 Chevy 1962 year. Ya I know I've taken a lot of gruff about it so be it, my project not theirs. Looking for a flat tappet solid lifter cam and lifters. With all the cam theories and cam goo-rues out there along with all the failure problems. Almost might be easier to figure out a Koenigsegg free valve system, that would allow all kinds of valve setting etc. and further aggravate the put a LS motor crowd in it. Any thoughts on what you may have to offer? Thanks FRED.

I have been using the Comp Cams composite distributor gear for many years on my big block race motors and my BBC tow truck with a solid roller cam. I used the bronze gear, several different brands, and I would always see the fine bronze gold looking metallic in my oil when changing oil. Have you had any experience with the composite gear ?

I am rebuilding my 1958 chevy Bel Air with a 283 cid and Powerglide trans. I am afraid that I will make a bad choice of cam and/or lifters due to lack of knowledge and wipe out a cam and ruin all my hard work. I want to stay with flat tappet setup. What cam core should I make sure my new cam has and what lifter set do I look for to match? It's too late in life to do this rebuild again. Thank-you.

With a 5160 induction hardened SFT using DLC coated lifters do you need to break in with low spring force or can you go to its running setup - as per roller lifters- ? Appreciate your thoughts
@powellmachineinc
@powellmachineinc Жыл бұрын
All the steel cores were roller, the very first core was the only flat tappet in the bunch. If you had a billet flat tappet, the break-in wouldn't be nearly as critical

Can they be heat treated again after they are done being ground?

No, 2 reason, #1 there is no need , #2 heat-treated will distort the shaft and it will need grinding again.

It's all in the ramp going into the opening the valves against the pressure the slow are you can make it open up the faster you'll get the exhaust fumes out of the combustion chamber And you won't Tara valvetrain parts because you're not trying to force them open in the porch rocker arm don't have to be so heavy that it can withstand 2000 PSI of pressure

Old motor homes…can’t live with ‘em, can’t dispose of ‘em. They are the old soldier that never dies, just fades away. Dismembered my 20 ft camper trailer this summer for the frame. 20 hrs to recycle and a huge dirty fire to burn away the wood remnants…never doing that again. Wrecking yards and recyclers won’t take them because of the bulk of it is wood waste and is a huge mess to dismember.

How is the taper ground in the lobe on a non roller cam. Is the wheel dressed on a angle. If so then a roller cam would take a square dressing. ???? Thanks.
@powellmachineinc
@powellmachineinc Жыл бұрын
2 ways, for taper some machines actually dress the wheel at a angle and some the actual head pivots so you can set the angle, so flat no taper for rollers.

I wonder if u can do a video on the subject of taper. I heard that some cams have too much , some not enough, some have taper in one direction, some in two directions, some like nail head Buick’s have none. ???
