This video is about using Rare Earth Magnets on Jigs.
The chrome finish of the magnet can be removed or scuffed by the sanding operation. You can refresh that with chrome nail polish from almost any store that sells nail polish. Good reason to have some nail polish in the shop!

Clicking on this will take you to my Amazon Storefront where you can review, and purchase products featured in my KZbin videos and that I recommend. Amazon pays me a small commission for items that are sold. This does not increase the price to you. Sometimes it may be less.
These commissions help support this KZbin channel so I can continue to bring videos to you. I am in the process of building this, so check back often for new items.

Very helpful. I’ve been looking to confirm my choice of glue for fastening rare earth magnets to wood. I was considering CA glue, but didn’t thing the bond would last. I just about settled on epoxy when I saw your video. Thanks for this tip & the others you presented.

I realised that this old but what I do is drill the hole a little deeper put glue then magnet in Wipe excess glue then place a piece of wax paper over the magnet The I place a heavy ish piece of steel on top The magnet attracts to the steel making it flush No sanding All the best

Neat gig, I use neodymium magnets for many projects, for my dust collection system I wanted a way to quickly connect and disconnect my five inch dust collection hose. I have a 3 D printer and made all kinds of fittings for the DC system. But I was not happy with the fittings to connect various hoses. Finally I came up with using two toilet flanges. I used 3M adhesive to glue a sheet of 220 sand paper on glass. I then flattened the flanges dead flat. Then using a forestner Bit I drilled 4 counter sunk holes and mounted the magnets flush to the flange on each flange connected my hoses. Now I have quick disconnects for all of DC needs. I tested for leaks using incense sticks. No leaks.

I drill a little deeper and use hot glue. A straight edge can be used to push the magnet down till its just flush.

I bring my glues, tape, and adhesives inside my house, as my shop/garage is not heated, wherein if left, the glue hardens. Thanks Sam

Thank you! Good tip! That is true. Cold weather thickens glues. My garage is a tuck under and remains above freezing. I have a space heater for when I do work out there. In Winter I'll moves glues, etc just inside the door to a warmer space.

Thanks for the tip! I had tried that before. Often I just grab a heat gun or hair dryer in my shop and warm up the bottle in less time. But warming in a pan of water is a great option too! Thanks!
