As much as I'd love a magnet like that, I know enough to know that it's insanely dangerous. I've got a MUCH smaller version of that which is roughly a 2.5 cm cube and i've nearly injured myself with it multiple times even though I try to be careful with it.

Yep. My friend had to go to the hospital because he crushed the ends of two of his fingers from large neodymium magnets. They were able to save the end of one of the fingers but unfortunately the other one had to be amputated. The magnets were still crushing his fingers when he got to the ER. Funny thing though -- he walked past the MRI room and he said he could feel something tugging at the magnets even beyond the walls of the MRI room. I tested just how far his magnets influenced things and I was able to detect the magnets from 25 feet with a magnetic field detector. Those things are insane.

Regarding that levitating frog thing, I've always wondered if the animal being levitated would feel weightless (i.e. almost like gravity is cancelled out, which seems unlikely) or if they would still feel as if they were gravitationally pushed against a surface, just with no sensation of touching it. Like actually feeling 1G, but since you aren't touching the ground with only your feet, where the 1G is focused on a small area (hence sore feet after standing all day) if you would still feel the sensation, but distributed throughout the surface of the body opposite the force of gravity?
@prasannask8320
@prasannask8320 Жыл бұрын
it is not gravity which makes your feet sore, it is the act of keeping the body balanced on a small area all day which places tremendous strain on the feet muscles. if you are sitting all day on a knee level stool with feet on the floor, it won't be the feet which hurt but rather the butt which will hurt as it is facing the pressure of balancing the body upright all day long.
@internetrules8522
@internetrules8522 Жыл бұрын
i think you would feel weightless. You can imagine gravity pulling on each atom of something (e.g: each atom of frog is being pulled a certain amount). So with diamagnetism, I THINK that you can think of it as each atom of the frog being pushed away from the magnet. So lets say gravity is pulling the atoms of the frog with 1 force, but magnets are pushing each atom away with 1 force, that would mean that in each atom, gravity and magnets are cancelling each other out. So I don't think you'd be able to feel that. With skydivers, once they reach terminal velocity, that means gravity is pulling on them the same amount air is pushing on them (e.g: gravity is pushing them down with 150 pounds of force, but air is pushing them up with 150 pounds of force, so it cancels each other out and the skydiver can feel all of that air.) I think you can feel that because there is a bunch of air pushing against the surface of your skin, but it's not pushing against the things inside of you. It's not evenly distributed among all of your atoms. If your standing on the ground, then your entire body is being pushed into the ground with say 150 pounds of force, and if your not falling into the ground, then your feet are pushing against the ground with 150 pounds of force. So I think that causes a chain reaction where its like: Your feet push against the ground to hold up your legs, your legs push against you feet to hold up your hips, hips against leg hold up torso, torso against hips hold up head. So like, every part of your body is sort of pushing against each other to transfer the force from you feet into the rest of your body. But with the magnets, the force is already distributed among every atom in your body!

Great video. When I lived in Japan, I worked for 4 years in a spot welding factory (spot), the mechanism is as follows, there are two copper nozzles and in one passes water and in the other a high electric current, when we press the trigger of the gun, the nozzles touch each other and thus we provoke a purposeful short that raises the temperature between them to more than 1400 degrees, fusing the metal sheets that are between them. Along with that too, there is high magnetism. To give you an idea, with each shot I fired, my bunch of keys in my pocket jumped forward, as if it were being attracted by a super magnet, if you wore a watch while working, it stopped working in 5 days maximum.

1) I dont think iron in hemoglobin acts like iron in particles. 2) there's only about 2-3 grams of iron in your body. 3) A strong enough magnet that could affect the iron in your body would affect normal matter (in a strong enough magnetic field everything becomes magnetized) at the same time so probably couldn't concentrate iron alone. I think I read somewhere it would take the magnetic field of something like a magnetar to squeeze/stretch a person to death, but getting that close to a magnetar would kill you from radiation before the magnetism :)

@@daniken2707 Okay, I wholly know and understand that kind of fact you aforementioned, but actually I forgot all about the OP's comment now because it's over 9 months ago when I reacted to this. The only thing I remember is that the OP's comment have literally all the exact same words from an older comment with much more likes. Anyways, you're right, I'm not kidding whatsoever in that comment of mine. I decided to comment my own opinion because I just dislike "clone" comments which obviously is intended to obtain likes/fame. It's just silly because copying the exact same thing to solely merit likes only is similar to copying a celebrity to solely become prettier and consequently get much more attention/fame. I should have shrugged the OP's comment off, but I just thought a brief polite reply will totally be ignored anyways, but at least I left a reminder. I never expected to get a reply or even a like. Plus, I don't and never whoooshed anyone ever because I think it's quite offending and 'silly'. Lastly by the ways, that like of your comment is from me 😁, because I have no time to reply that time. Anyways, I apologize for any offense and/or discrimination I have caused. I'm sorry, and please just excuse me. Goodbye

Didn't he say something along the lines of if you had a piece of metal with the same surface area / volume as that magnet, goodbye finger? A knife has a much smaller SA, volume, and contact area than what he was describing. That 10lb weight he used later probably could've done some big damage. You saw how much he struggled to get the thing off. And that wasn't even directly contacting the magnet, it was through a stepladder.

To me it seems like the further from the magnet, the weaker the pulling force is so coins at the bottom are held by the top coins. Without it they would fall flat, that's why they're not straight up
@raylanger8844
@raylanger8844 2 жыл бұрын
@@hackerman8132 Look at 4:50, its pretty much the same thing happening there where the coins arent straight up and down, you can just see it a lot closer to the magnet because the coins arent near the centre of the magnet. The coins want to align with the magnetic field and the magnetic field lines curve around the magnet.
@hackerman8132
@hackerman8132 2 жыл бұрын
@@raylanger8844 yea but that's because coins are right there next to magnet, but if the magnet was on the top and single coin at the bottom of container i guess it wouldn't fly up because the force would be too little. That's why I thing they curve at the bottom because they gravity pulls the coins chain. But you might be right, I just guess

Well, now you need to play with Bismuth and your new magnet since Bismuth is one of the most diamagnetic materials out there (not counting superconductors, of course). Speaking of which, super cooled superconductors levitating over such a strong magnet would be interesting too.
@MrBrew4321
@MrBrew4321 6 жыл бұрын
People commenting concern for the mice, consider that mice and other animals have been subjected to far more powerful magnetic fields (like as in a mri scanner) with no reported negative effect. The fact that they are repelled indicates that the diamagnetic force is stronger than the other forces, think about it, that means the magnet is having absolutely no ferromagnetic effect. If you are worried about the magnet sucking the iron out of the mouse's blood, you need to tell your physics teacher to hit you with a book.
@JasonOvalles
@JasonOvalles 3 жыл бұрын
But what's the point in using them? If every material is diamagnetic as he claims, why not use blocks of wood for the demonstration? Just to get more clicks and views? The mice are freaking out during this. At 6:35, you can see the mouse repeatedly grooming itself. Increased self-grooming is a sign of anxiety in mice. be.chewy.com/11-common-mouse-behaviors-explained/

We had to order a new shipment because at one point one of my former coworkers decided to play with them and let them snap together and explode. Well we use those on the magnetic arrays we make (like twice a year).
