We delivered one of our Cubes to our good friend Daryl Smith, a local Michigan legend in CNC machine repair. Afterwards he gave us a tour of his shop. It was a great visit and we all had a wonderful time, thank you Daryl!

Every time I've watched a SRM video Steve's and his family's humbleness stands out. In this video I see two incredibly talented craftsmen with equal humbleness. Thank you all for sharing the tour of Daryl's shop with us. I like your hillbilly flag Daryl. I'm a born and raised WV Creek Boy, made it my home for 58 yrs. Daryl's shop indicates he's possibly a racer too. Asphalt circle track is where my mind stays.

Thanks Steve! Some of the greatest masters of the craft we would never get to see. Technology has allowed us to set at the feet of some of the greatest teachers of their art that have ever been. It is a privilege for those of us that appreciate the craft to be able to have a chance to absorb even the smallest nugget of knowledge from someone who spent most of their life learning the intricacies of their art. It is not lost on us that these guys took most of their lives to learn their craft, and to share it to us on a KZbin video in a few minutes is an absolute privilege. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge with us. It's appreciated.

Daryl im just starting to collect machinist skills, im a auto mechanic by trade. I recently bought two lathes with nothing to do with them but i would like to restore them, One 6'' craftsman and a 10" atlas 54 bed, how would i start to make them more precise? I was thinking a 54" camelback and scrapper might be my first step but i haven't found any yet for sale down here in texas.
@OtherBrotherDarylSmith
@OtherBrotherDarylSmith 4 жыл бұрын
@@jackelliott861 Hi John, I am basically a mechanic too and started acquiring machines to repair my drag cars. It depends what condition the machines are in but I doubt you need a 54 inch camelback. I would clean the lathes up, get them running and do some test cuts. I don't scrape hardened bed ways, but have scraped lathe saddles, cross slides and compounds. You only need a small camelback to do that. An 18" camelback with a 45 degree dovetail should get you by for most lathes.
