Thank you for sharing! I never even considered this. You said that the shop vac remains nearly empty. Would it have any detrimental effect if I sectioned the bucket part of the vac way down, making it a dwarf shop vac? Then the box could be that much shorter and easier to store?

I don't know. It's worth a shot. The main thing is they need to be sealed up so the vac works great. Having the smaller capacity on the shop vac would be a moot point as it doesn't get any debris in it except for that .01 percent of very very very fine dust after a year when I open it up it still looks empty.

I did end up buying the Dewalt super quiet shop vac. You can't even hear it and it out preforms the other vacs plus it's very quiet. After the old shopvac motor bearings went out and I bought the DeWalt I had no use for the quiet box anymore so I repurposed the foam and plywood for other projects.
