Your videos have helped me out tremendously. I have a 2005 325Ci with only 78,000mi. I got my first oil stain in the driveway and I was like uh oh. This engine bay is jammed packed, there’s no way I can do the work myself. That is until I saw your post. Not only have I changed the bad oil filter gasket but I finally changed those noisy bearings. She runs perfectly. Thanks to you and your girl, I watch your videos just because… happy holidays and wishing you both the best.

READ: It is very important to put a thread SEALANT on the two lower, front facing 13mm bolts. Dry the holes and the bolts completely before applying the sealant, there should be no oil in the threads or you'll have a bad seal. Those lower holes are exposed to the oil pan and if you don't buy new bolts with the preapplied blue sealant, you are going to need to apply some yourself or you WILL have a leak.
@abry61522 жыл бұрын
when you say blue sealant is that thread locker or rtv

100% spot on. That is not shown on this video. When I removed the two lower bolts i lost almost 1/4 qt of engine oil. Those bolt threads need to be sealed. In the past I have successfully used "VersaChem 3 Ounce Gasket Sealant", they sell it at O'Reilly. Excellent stuff! Seals and holds paper gaskets extremely well and also serves as thread sealant. Use it now, thanks me later.

My front and rear main seal went along with a computer short(my speedo and odometer stopped working a couple days before the seals blew). I’ve had it at a shop for a year. They didn’t want to do it so it sat. Even if I was to learn and do it on my own idk where to even start. It’s an 04 x3 with 110 k miles and not a spec of rust. Hurts my soul. Thing drove so good.

Nice job as always. I appreciate how your videos are concise and that you edit slow and repetitive content. Kepp up the good work! One matter of technique I would be interested in your response to: Once all the seal plate bolts are started and seated, I prefer to torque the pan bolts first so the plate can pull downward to the pan lip. (there is always a bit of play in the part when the bolts are untorqued) If the block bolts are torqued first, there may be a small tolerance between the plate and the pan that the pan bolts are unable to pull together because the block bolts are already torqued. Thoughts?

Thank You Gregory, grease is not a good choice, you are better off using a silicone spray or a thin layer of engine oil.

That appeared to be a PTFE seal so it has to be installed clean and dry. The 4 hours are for the chemicals in the PTFE to rub onto the shaft, so it seals. Note there is no retainer ring in the PTFE seals anymore. No more old school greasing or you will have a leak my friend. Just an FYI. Great video Jason. Thanks so much.

@@ceeedubbb similar but not quite , I’ve been searching in the forums and rear main seal squeal is a thing you just gotta make sure the sound is coming from that area as in close to the torque converter, and not the front of the engine if it’s front it could be camshaft front main seal or PCV which I also looked into.

When doing rear main seal/oil pan gasket I’ve heard upon refilling the oil and staring up it can starve the engine of oil and possibly lead to spun bearings? Does anyone know anything about this or have any idea on what I can do to avoid fucking up my engine after doing oil pan gasket myself?
@oilragrebuilds20243 жыл бұрын
Kinda late reply for you here but I heard that if you pull the fuse to your fuel pump or do something like that so you can turn the car over without actually starting it helps with this. What is does is helps build oil pressure. This is the best way to prevent as much wear as possible when starting up a fresh engine.
