Thanks - as always, very useful information, particularly for budget planning. It is clear from the numbers that, whether on a local diet or Western diet, cooking at home will always be less expensive than eating out - even incl. street food - despite what many of the younger KZbinrs often claim. And, it is equally clear that, as in most countries, sourcing local will be significantly less expensive than sourcing imported.

Thanks for the kind words and what you say is definitely correct. It’s become a rather popular myth that eating out is somehow cheaper than cooking in Thailand. Not sure where it started but it’s definitely not accurate. Cooking can be exceptionally inexpensive if you choose local ingredients. And it’s even cheaper at local markets! Cheers!

Perfect! We'll be looking for our first condo in Bangkok next month and I was wondering where to get the bedding, towels and kettle. The only places I could think of were Siam Paragon or Robinson but thought it might be a bit pricey. When I see lotus, I think groceries so thank you for showing what else they actually have. Incidentally, thank you for suggesting Amazing Properties in your other videos. I have contacted them and they have been in touch. Grace will be helping us with our search next month. Feel free to come along lol 🙂 Thanks again and all the best.

I've noticed bedding (sheets and pillowcases, specifically) are hugely expensive there. Maybe bring a new set from your home country (if you know the bed size).

Next time, do Makro. They’re even cheaper. Although, they don’t have such a wide variety as Lotus and also have far fewer branches.

I'm just back from two months and was always kinda surprised how similar supermarket costs were to Europe compared to restaurants and street food which are a literal fraction of the costs. I suppose it's because the labour is so cheap as to be free but the actual produce is comparable. Restaurants would be cheap here if wages were practically zero.

The big open meat trays in supermarkets are a big no-no for me. First time I bought meat from one I got really bad food poisoning. Having meat in the open like that, with customers hovering over the open trays, all using the same tongs, with no hand washing, just seems very wrong to me. Of course we don't know where street food comes from. But at least the sellers probably have basic food handling skills. It's in their interest not to make their customers sick. I've rarely had problems with street food. I do also draw the line at sellers in food courts who have cooked food sitting on open trays that may have been there for hours. My food court food is cooked fresh or not at all.
