(Melanie here) This was so interesting! I agree that the belt is fantastic for making the outfit look more stylish and to enhance your waistline. The more straight pants seem more flattering and make you look slimmer than the wide leg pants. You look great in the green dress and also with white, blue or black against your face.

I loved this video. I’m a 74 year old woman and, until just a few years ago, never had to think twice about what did or didn’t look good on me. I”m 5’1”, 125 pounds, but my waist has thickened and my bust is quite full. I too am very self conscious about belting anything even though I recognize that I really need that definition so my bust doesn’t give the illusion that I’m much heavier. Seeing that our concerns are very similar, I have to say you looked fantastic in all the belted outfits! Using the stylist was a brilliant decision. Your “look” is very classy and doesn’t look like you’re trying so hard …it looks effortless and comfortable.

Sitting here commenting in my cotton Uniqlo bra top! You look great in the outfits and the accessories really do look good! I am inspired to maybe put on a belt. I don't like to interrupt my vertical, but I can see that if the belt matches the dress, the buckle adds to the effect. I have some Mary Janes I need to wear too. Thanks!

Oh Dez! This was wonderful! I loved seeing you in all these outfits she put together for you. I am just like you with belts. I shy away from them because I feel like they make my wide waist look wider. But I have to say, there were quite a few outfits with the belt that looked fantastic! And I also can relate to your hesitation in wearing the Mary Jane’s. When I have tried to wear them, I just feel like I can’t pull them off. But I thought they look great on you. I am so in two minds about the Mary Janes - if I took a poll from the comments below, selling them would win hands down - but I might wait until autumn as they are black and likely to be more interest in them then. Agree about V necks - I used to wear them a lot but so many of my favourite brands of T shirts have been doing crews for the last few years. Some great ideas and so much fun. Your normal slim trousers with the black blazer looked great as did the black trainers and I thought the black dress with the Agnes B coat looked really stylish but, imho, steer clear of wide leg trousers and mint green, neither did you any favours, loved the black Dune sandals.

Oh Gosh Dez, i loved All the Photos of the way she dressed you, and the bag really added that bit of 'something' and loved all the shoes with the different clothes especially the white shoes with the green dress, and the MJ black shoes with the first dress is a big yes, you look so young in the black dress, I find black makes me look older!! Love all of your outfits, investing in a great stylist is an absolute win… really want to try it too since a long time as well. You look so youthful, such a cool and classic style. I am in my mid fifties and are about to find my style after decades of trial and error. I am petite which I love now but was always struggling with before. Interesting. I think there are some lessons to be learned here. You do suit a belt- it's just picking the correct width and style. You don't suit all black but you look great in black and white. You look amazing in those jewel blue and green colours. Another KZbinr has a saying to use when shopping " if it's not a hell yes! It's a no" and I think that's true" .

I too am 69 and just discovered your channel. The video was very interesting. I do think you looked great in the belted outfits. i also liked the Mary Janes on you. I must confess that I bought a pair of double strap, navy blue patent Mary Janes this spring after seeing them multiple times on Beth Djalali's blog. Her daughter-in-law styled hers numerous times on the blog and I was captivated by the look. I will say that I feared that I might look like mutton dressing as lamb in the style, but I really like them on myself. My legs are one of my best features and I think the Mary Janes help to bring my outfit focus down to them. Thanks for a great, educational video.

Hi Dez - I love your Mary Jane’s - they look so cool. I have the Hush version in black and cream - they’re so soft and comfortable. I’ve tried wide leg trousers and just can’t get on with them. The widest I’ll go is the M&S cigarette jeans 😂 which I adore. Honestly think you look amazing in your slimmer trousers and love your birkies. I really like the white trainers, but if the black keep sticking with you flog them on Vinted 😊 PS you look fabulous in everything ❤

I like very much the Mary Janes. I think they bring a modern touch to your outfits. They make you look younger, more updated if you will. (Your fitted trousers... Hello, my gorgeous friend. Great day for me to watchva fashion video, sitting here in my sweatpants and tee shirt! Love the 1st look with the jacket, and the 2nd with trainers. I like the Maryjanes! You look vibrant in the green dress. Love the black dress with the bag and your mom's scarf. Your brown jacket is fabulous. It looks wonderful with everything. I'm not crazy about the pink shirt on top of the skirt. I'd do a front tuck with the oversized sweater and wide pants. Once again, the brown jacket works well. Love the wide leg trousers on you. The algorithm just showed me your video. Definitely worthwhile to have a stylist to bring out the best in your clothes. Anytime you wear the belt the outfit is elevated and you look so much more put together. Love the Mary Jane shoes, they look good on you! It was a very interesting session. I have to admit, though, that red blouse that you showed, I thought it was absolutely stunning. And for myself, I would have paired it with a pair of white skinny jeans and the white sandals you had. If I wanted it more of a casual look, I would have paired it with the same white skinny jeans and your white trainers. I would have also paired a beautiful red multi stranded glass beads for a necklace with earrings to match. I have a few what I call signature styles that I wear for summer. It makes it easier for me. I love striking vibrant colors , like fuchsia, beautiful jewel-toned colors. I love that sort of stuff. (Probably because I'm an artist!😊) I'll look for jewelry that will match it as well. I don't typically follow the trends. I usually stick with vintage styles that I know I look good in and feel comfortable in. My style is brighter colors because ever since menopause, and I don't have to deal with menstrual cycles anymore, the colors that I choose now are all fairly bright colors. I wear an occasional black jeans casually and dresses for a dressy Night Time Events. But other than that, I barely wear black at all, but it was a great thing to have done for yourself, Dez , I'm sure it was fun for you.❤

Pastels - e.g. the mint green jumper - are ageing for women our age. You don't see any younger women wearing them - for a reason. You look better in stronger colours - the cornflower blue is fab, the green, the black, etc. The midi skirt from Uniqlo, imo there's too much material, it looks heavy. Even if you're a little self-conscious about your waist, tucking in is still a better option, without belt. Your legs will look as long as your trouser leg, so if you wear cropped white trousers, they will look shorter, and if you look shorter, you will look wider/fatter - it's to do with proportions. White widens your figure, darker colours are more slimming. The slim-fit dark trousers look amazing on you, modern and slimming. Wide trousers may be trendy now, but imo they make everyone look wider, the clue is in the name, so I understand why you had them taken in, but you still look way better in the slim trousers and the black oversize jacket looks amazing too. The quilted jacket makes you look very big.

What surprised me was the cream trousers, cream top and black belt with black jacket and cream shoes. I would never have thought of putting a black belt with that outfit but it worked really well and rather than chopping you in half, it gave you shape and made you look slimmer. I always avoid cream, but I think matching a jacket to the belt works well. I might try this out! It’s definitely worth having these sessions because in general it gives great ideas, refreshes the wardrobe, determines what’s missing and ultimately helps with having a more put together look.

@@beautybydez No, I never show that though you'd think it was what I was doing! I get unwanted attention when I emphasize my small waist and ribcage with a wrap top or dress. If I don't have waist emphasis, I look pregnant. It's a difficult balance. An hourglass shape has a lot of challenges.

I think it’s the buckles on those Mary Jane’s for me - not a huge fan, but they are a staple. I really liked them with the trousers and oversized blazer. I’m still getting used to how to style the larger silhouettes on the bottom. Love your style - and the idea of more purposeful choices and not buy buy buy

I love my black trainers I've got black with white stripes and white ones with black stripes I wear my black ones with darker outfits and my white ones with lighter outfits they look great with cropped trousers and also cigarette style trousers maxi skirt any length skirts really and wide leg trousers too ❤

Hi Dez: I like most all of it, except I'm not a fan of Mary Janes on anyone, myself included. It's a good deal of black. Obviously, black is slimming, but, I look dead in it, personally. You look good in colors..love the mint green jumper. Not a fan of Birkies, but, that's just my opinion..they don't flatter my short legs. The red shirt was, indeed, very attractive. I'm sure it would be "worth it" if we could all have a stylist come in to help..I certainly could use it! I seem to have lost my fashion sense after retirement (and, the "menopause body"). I thought the red blouse was absolutely stunning! For me, I would have paired it with some stark white jeans for a casual dress look. The white sandals would have gone nicely with it. I would have had like a red bead, jewel toned necklace with earrings to match. If you wanted to dress it up a little more, you could have worn a red sandal and carrying a red bag. That's sort of my style. I thought the sleeves were absolutely beautiful. I don't typically wear black too much except perhaps a night out. For me, black is a little bit too depressing, although in the right setting, black can be absolutely stunning. I think because I'm an artist, I prefer more vibrant colors, and being Olive toned, I really enjoy wearing beautiful pinks and if I want to wear a darker color I'll go for something like an eggplant ..I love colors like that.😊 You're such a pretty lady, I really think you would look beautiful in more vibrant colors that match your skin tone. But having a personal stylist must have been totally indulging and so much fun!. I think she did a pretty good job with what you have.❤

Thanks so much Cat! I agree, I'd like to wear more colour, but finding clothes in my colour palette that I want to wear is very difficult. Take the red shirt, the cuffs were huge on me and the shirt was so oversized and in a stiff fabric, and nothing really looked right with it, so I sent it back. However, Debs did send me a red top suggestion, so I will consider it because red is a fabulous colour and I do love it - and agree aubergine (eggplant) is a great colour for me. It was so much fun and it's given me the confidence to try different ways of wearing what I have and considering what I might bring into my wardrobe ❤️

Normally I am not a fan of Mary Janes but yours are edgy enough that I would wear them I loved them with the narrow black pants and big blazer. I could really use a stylist now as I have scoliosis, major back surgery and a protruding stomach.... oh and bilateral mastectomy without reconstruction! I have decided I will have to make my own clothes now as I am just not a standard size. I still love to feel well put together at 72 but it is a bit of an effort to work out how to wear some of my clothes!

Yes, I think the stylist was a great idea! I was hoping you were going to integrate that vibrant red dress in, I think you would look great in it! I loved you in the green dress with the Westwood bag, it really popped. Also, the blue top looked beautiful. While you have a staple of black in your wardrobe, have you thought of transitioning to Navy, its still a neutral but as we age is more "light" on our skin tones. I've transitioned ( I'm in my mid-60's) to Navy, aubergine, camel, soft grays, merlot hued tones, plus browns. I noted the tonal elements of the browns with the blacks looked great. Also, the scarf added a nice pop of color. I think you look quite nice in colors.

Im in my mid 50's and the styling outfits aside I think you could have your hair analysed. You need body in the top and the thin ends cut off and a lightener put in around your face, See a hair stylist (that will not cut it short!) and I think they call it a trichologist? to help thicken the hair. I believe rose hip oil and biotin help..well I use it and it's helped! Bon chance mon amie!

Interesting about my hair! It is looking a bit lank, but I do take a zinc supplement for it, subscribed by my GP - biotin didn't work. I am planning to get a balayage later this month which might make it look a bit thicker 🙂

The mary janes work with both your outfits. the V shape of skin that the shoes allows to show on top of your foot is elongating. Please consider wearing them. They look fresh and stylish.

I kind of agree - the skinny trousers are my go to's, it's just that I get bored with them and need to ring the changes, but I think I'm getting from all of you that wide legs are probably not for mem 😉 On the bag, I have literally just removed my sewing kit and will start to use it as a proper going out bag from now on 🙂❤️

The wide leg cream trousers are not flattering on you. As an outside looking in, they have a pajama pant look and make you look heavy when you are not. The Mary Jane shoes look great on you, are they comfortable to wear all day?

I think I'm leaning towards agreeing with you re the wide trousers😉- the Mary Janes are comfy but I wear my orthotics with them as there's no footbed to speak of - they are very flat.

A good question! I think it was because they looked gorgeous on a content creator whose style I love - Vilma Martins - and the leather is so soft and buttery - and because I wanted to try something different and am not keen on ballet flats, so thought these would be a different take on a similar shaped shoe. I am going to keep trying them out, so thank you for your comment - it really helps!

I think the reason you don’t like the Agnes b coat with the dress under is because there is no dimension like in the other outfits. Its just two pieces of clothing, exactly the same length and shape.
