Preach on, Sister 🎉🎉 Thank you for addressing the issue that women over 50 aren’t old! I’m 81 and don’t plan on being old for at least another 15 years 😂❤
@dammar1175 ай бұрын
I'm in my 50s, and I'm most certainly old. I'm not in my teens, 20s, 30s, or even 40s. I've gone through menopause, I have less energy, I have osteopenia, I need a facelift. But I've also lived. What is wrong with saying we're old? I hate delusional statements that seek to keep me in a state I no longer identify with, because I'm no longer in it.

At age 75 and having had a career in the fashion industry as a fashion illustrator in NYC and then a fitness trainer in my 40s I have a pretty good idea of what looks good on me. I've eliminated a few things as I've gotten older. 1. no heavy makeup esp foundation or any heavy eye makeup, no false eyelashes! I've always loved the natural look since I was in my late teens. Am going for those Boom sticks! Renown makeup artist Bobbie Brown said women over 50 should ditch powdered makeup and we shouldn't be wearing the same makeup we wore in our 20s and 30s, makes sense! 2. I love drawstring pants or cropped pants more than just elasticized pants, it's a more youthful look than just elasticized. Hate wearing sneakers though with cropped pants, a horrible look that ages a woman! Along with tops that have a scooped neckline with gathers. Nothing makes a woman look older than that, imho. 3. no more bikinis or shorts! I ditched bikinis/two pieces a long time ago, a one piece is so much more flattering. I was wearing medium length shorts recently, but decided I don't like wearing them at my age, so I'm going for great looking drawstring cropped pants! 4. No more lethal looking high heels that look like weapons of mass destruction! There are so many stylish flats or sandals these days and they're way more comfortable! I wince at some of the high heels today that have really super high heels, not good for the feet! 5. Nothing too frilly or ruffles! Simplicity rules! 6. You can be in the greatest shape but as you age, your skin gets old looking! Older women have wrinkles esp in their neck, their arms etc. if not their face! And on their chest, so it's best to cover up the best you can, which also protects against skin cancers! 7. I go for two things now, comfort and style! Thanks for the great tips~

I agree with just about all of your comments. One exception I am making: I am attending a summer wedding in southern Europe next year, and I will be packing for three different events (according to the customs of the country). I am definitely taking a dress which is in a soft chiffon print, midi length in front, floor length in back, as this will transition well between afternoon and evening. I will be taking another cocktail length dress as well. I am also taking a “shrug,” as (a) the church requires women’s shoulders to be covered, (b) old churches are often quite chilly, and (c) I can pop it on and off as the temperatures change between afternoon and evening. All of these are very “packable” and will not wrinkle easily.

Everything in my summer wardrobe is sleeveless and I'm at a loss as to the best way to dress now. Elegant clothing for my age group is already very difficult to find and I really don't look forward to always be looking for sleeves. As someone else has said, we are of the age that can afford to purchase quality clothing for our age but it's difficult to find. Oh! what to do? I LOVED this video and glad it was recommended by the YT algorithm! Can't agree more about the stores for mature women. I scratch my head at the frump mixed in -- and women do buy it.

Yay! I feel like I'm catching on. I purchased 3 of those exact Everlane pants mentioned at the beginning of the video and I really do love them. They are wonderful winter office pants.

Well said: Fashion pieces should be either classic or trendy.

Ya, I completely disagree with the shrug evaluation. I make most of my garments and am very careful about the prints, size of stripes etc. I’m not worried about looking older no matter my age. I notice PEOPLE, their attitude, their countenance not if the clothes are dated. I’d rather have a kind, compassionate friend who dresses in any era than an up to date flake.

As an European we stay simple with no prints. Well fitting jeans (when you find the right designer) and a T shirt, tailored that is, again no prints, stripes only solid colors.

I agree with all your choices. I run into an issue with my clothing. I am still a size 2 in jeans and well over fifty. I go the opposite direction for many of the clothes are overly youthful. I weed out my closet every season with clothes that look foolish on me. Thanks for your video.

Shrugs no! But what about cropped short sleeve sweaters? I and petite and these seem to work for me.
@NadaManley5 ай бұрын
On petite also and those can be great. I would just be careful to stick to neutrals in those and not match them to the color of your outfit.. in other words don’t pair a pink sweater with a pink and black dress like the example in the video. If that was black, it would be so much better.

I agree with all of your advice however I have seen ladies who are large and their options are matronly! The fashion industry can be cruel to women who are heavy. I salute those who “find a way” to be styled !

I recently found your channel and absolutely love it!! It is quickly becoming my favorite fashion resource. The information is realistic, useful, and totally relates to me. The format is perfect. Lots of information in a short time frame, well presented with examples and specific suggestions. The information is different from other channels yet very applicable to me and other women. Please keep making these great videos!

You totally hit the nail on the head! I especially agree with the elastic waistbands which I've detested almost my entire life! I cannot stand the feeling of being squeezed around the middle! (Not to mention they're hideous.) It's the reason I returned the tank dress with the wide skirt that is sold my Quince and Alo Yoga. Love the silhouette, but I could not stand the feeling of that elastic around my waist! I do disagree on shrugs - or at least my shrug. I have a black one from WHBM with fitted sleeves which I love in summer to go over my ubiquitous cami tops! And yeah, if you think "wear whatever you want" why watch a fashion video?
@delilah14795 ай бұрын
Agree with you on the shrug. I have one in white and black and they are so darn handy especially if need to cover shoulders a bit in too air conditioned restaurants --cold air blowing on me from above.

I didn’t know what I would find here…always suspicious of people telling me what I should and shouldn’t wear but I was pleasantly surprised! I agreed with everything you said. Now, if only I COULD find polyester pull-on slacks for my 91 year old mother. The slim leg styles and mid-rise just won’t work for her.

Interesting, the Everlane Dream Pant / Have to check those out. Was {a little bit} surprised to see shrugs/Shrugs-of-any-kind listed as a Should Not; but I suppose it was more of an, "Oh, please!" wishful thing on my part because I think they're so cute, and bc I have multiple shrugs/boleros made from varied fabrics. I do-understand the Garanimals comment (always make me L O L!), since there is no femininity/sexiness to those combinations. Thank you, Nada! Blessed Friday and weekend to you ❤️ 🎵 🇺🇲
@NadaManley5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for the comment Angela! Shrugs are one of those things that go in and out of style so I suggest saving a couple of favorites particularly neutral ones for when they come back. But they rarely really add much to an outfit. And yes about the Garanimals for sure. Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend

Just happened on your video, and intend to keep following...such hard truths! But can only agree 100 percent..i bought an elasticated skirt recently , it's dire...aged me years(and made my backside look huge) ...i agree with every single criticism on that list...

I think that there are some really cool ways to cover your arms. And if your petite shrugs are not a bad option. I have some from Amazon that look great. Aso bathing suit cover ups work really well sometimes especially in hot climates. Dont get bogged down in thinking because it is in a certain catagory that's all it is good for. Use your imagination. I wish I could share a pic. Cheers

There are definitely exceptions to all of these rules. I’m talking about a very specific type of shrug here but if you found a style that works for you, you should go for it

That reminds me of a country concert I attended. A gal was wearing a crocheted long kimono type coverup with her denim shorts and boots, and my male friend said --look, she's wearing a tablecloth and he and his buddy had a good laugh! Sometimes you just can't win!

Some hair stylists recommend women over 50 not wearing their hair very long but rather cut it to a lob, bob etc…Given that she was telling the viewers what to not wear over fifty, I’m surprised she didn’t mention her choice for a “younger hairstyle”.
@Eyesofthebeholder2142 ай бұрын
@@LJ-xr5th I don't understand this obsession with scoping out "what not to wear" Should we write a book " Dressing over 50 for dummies?" Omg so over it here on You Tube. Let's just dress for ourselves and call it a day.
