It's so hard to describe every reason we do anything, but I loved hearing you break down your thoughts on why you buy luxury! It's so funny to me that people think anyone buys luxury to feel superior because we know a ton of judgment comes with buying luxury goods. I have some collector tendencies too 😊

That is so true. I guess unless someone reads any kind of judgement towards their luxury spending as reinforcement of how their bags set them apart from others with judgement often times being rooted in jealousy…? Idk, a whole other can of worms🙈 It’s tricky, but also so interesting. I’ve really been enjoying hearing people’s opinions, especially Amelia’s and hellocatwalkcity’s videos around this topic.

I really enjoyed watching this video, Lesley. I think the main thing is that there are things that we enjoy in life. There’s no point trying to distract ourselves with other things that we love less. And imagine how sad it would be, if we love nothing at all. I also agree that a handbag has never harmed anyone. I watched all the way to the end.❤

Great chat video - really enjoyed. You made a lot of good points and sense - made me think about a lot of things I do and then I thought wow I'm alright, I could be addicted to worse things than bags and jewerly, make-up palettes and lipstick, clothes 😁 Yes I do use shopping to make up for a bad day or reward myself for making it through a tough week, but I then decided that collecting all this stuff is sort of prepping for when I retire and have no money, at least I'll be a stylish pensioner (good job I buy classic, timeless stuff)! 😄

Haha, good point. I mean, I still firmly believe that handbags and all these luxury items aren’t an investment in the classic sense, but if we make smart purchasing decisions, we’ll have all these beautiful things to use and enjoy when we’re older. In investment in our future selves :)

I understand your concerns about RTW, but there are definitely pieces out there that can accommodate plus or minus a few sizes. I focus on those, so I can enjoy them no matter what my size.

Cute collection - key chains are inexpensive & colorful. Why not? My aunt used to collect salt & pepper shakers. Bags make me feel better too. My closest friend says, "I wish I loved something as much as you love bags." (She loves the world she observes while looking into a microscope, but you can't collect molecules.😂)❣️🌻

So true😊 There’s something to be said about being passionate about something! From the outside it might seem materialistic (which it maybe is to a degree), BUT it’s so much more than that. KZbin and more generally the luxury community, that brings us together thanks to our shared interest and love for handbags is a prime example :)

I love nerding out on history, especially social history which the a lot of luxury goods houses proffer as evidence of their products' good quality. I love it, but I really hate it because I think a lot of it is made up. Moynat, Goyard, Faure le Page, et al, these new companies don't seem to be connected to their past. Some astute businessmen hired a bunch of French intellectual property lawyers to buy the trademarks and "resuscitate" the brand. The current know-how, the materials while still high quality are divorced from their storied past that the companies boast about and form the basis for charging x2, x5, x10 more than their competitors. The sense of history, durability, authenticity is really just a sham.

Absolutely, the heritage alone doesn’t warrant the prices and I’m sure the brands inflate their history as part of their marketing. I knowing I’m carrying a bag from a brand that dates back to the 19th century still does something to me though😌
