Finding the culprit that drains a car battery can be a real pain. There are a couple of ways to best find a Parasitic Battery Draw or battery drain. We use the Kaiweets KM601 to show two different ways to find the circuit that continues to draw current. The KM601 looks a lot like a smartphone offering a large screen with several Auto functions as well. Once powered up, the Kaiweets multimeter cycles through Voltage (DC and AC), Ohms, and Continuity. Once you place the business end of the leads on the test subject, the KM601 automatically selects the right mode.

Where has this video been my whole life?!?! I'm not a trained electrician by any means but I do have many years of practice and experience using multimeters for various DIY solutions. The product, demonstration and even bonus tips and tricks provided in this video have answered so many of my multimeter prayers.

Great video. Thank you. I just received the KM601 today because I'm a DIY auto guy and one of my Envoy's has a parasitic drain...turns out it was worn out dreaded battery side post terminals preventing getting a full charge. Replaced the terminal connectors with brass side post battery extenders.

After three weeks the KM601 is perfect. I needed a replacement set of "leads," and the Kaiweet's support team is second to one ...they sent me what I needed and more. I received a better response from the support team than you do on a new car, or new appliances at Lowes, or just about anything I've purchased in the past ten years that required contact with customer support.

@@Shoptoolreviews The meter is very intuitive, the compact size, color display (no backlight button needed), the auto feature, prompts for the lead changes, fuse blown message and showing Hertz and temperature on the screen at the same time it shows voltage makes this very slick. Hard to believe it has a min/max feature too. I think we'll be seeing a lot of companies following this interface improvement. Add a magnet to the back of it and you're all set. Curious to see if it's a battery hog.

Very nice demo board. Thanks for the review. Looking to replace my old analog meter, wow they got some really nice stuff out there now. Fluke is nice but not worth the money unless you're a real pro or something.

We don't pull fuses anymore. If you cut power to one of the several modules, it will turn back on when the fuse is reinstalled. I have this meter and I like it. Mine is one of several old with other names. The fuse voltage is the best way to check for draw. You covered most of the parasitic draw tests and it should take some of the mystery out of electrical testing.

i'm trying to find out if this multi-meter will accept the "Brymen_BL21S2_T4SC_Silicone_Test_Leads". a reviewer mentioned that the socket pitch 14mm instead of the standard 19mm or 3/4" to keep the width down. i have to admit i don't really understand that.. so i thouhgt i'd ask a couple of folks online that would have different brand test leads.

What I really like about this is it has a nice big color display and the fact that the best one is only about 50 bucks... you can also get a smaller one with 4000 counts for $20.. so everyone screaming about using a "regular cheap multimeter" don't have a leg to stand on...because $20 for a nice digital auto-ranging meter like this, is cheap!

Bought that multimeter, but not thrilled with accuracy. 122 V AC in my US outlets instead of 120. 1.7 V DC on 1.5 volt battery test, instead of 1.5. A much cheaper voltmeter I own wad more accurate. Any thoughts?

Cool I just received this multimeter, it's beautiful, the colored LCDs especially. It's as fast a dial when choosing the functions if you press the Auto for a few seconds (great for quick Diode mode for a quick continuity) but do you think a rechargeable 1.5v lithium (from a chinese brand like a no name Kaizen rechargeable or an Eveready non-recheargeble is best for this multimeter with a colored LCD? Thank you in advance for the battery advise in advance. By the way what's a reading that within specs, my reading for the capacitors especially are exactly the value written on the capacitors? How many percentages (plus or minus) is within spec? God bless, Rev. 21:4

My '65 Corvair's 7 year old battery stopped holding a charge, so I buy a new battery for my 5 year old daily driver, and my Corvair gets the old battery. Now this one fails too. Basically did what the video did. Turned out to be some not used aftermarket radio wiring. Used a cheap HF meter.

On most vehicles after 2000 such as my 2017 BMW 750iX, even the BMW technicians are clueless about the location of the parasitic draws. The 750 has almost 40 "body" modules. The wiring diagrams from the shop are just the block variety and it takes a considerable amount of effort to find the name of the terminal and the plain German (or English) equivalent. Furthermore, because many of the fuses are for multiple uses - some with no obvious relationship to one another; and the lack of access or the sheer number of components that have to be moved out of the way, makes diagnoses almost impossible. Allow me to list what BMW shops use as their troubleshooting advice once they inform you of the $500 diagnostic fee (only refundable as a credit against future work for THAT service only) [the shop rate here is $240/hour]. 1) It's your fault (the customer's). You must have added something like a radar detector, dashcam or [heaven forbid] aftermarket driving lights. 2) You (again the customer's fault) for replacing the two [yes, BMW Series 7/8 and Q5's all have 2 x 12V ACM batteries b/c it takes 300VA minimum to start the car and the 180VA alternator only charges at 100VAH. 3) "We" don't know, so we'll lie to you so we can charge $1K or more for a repair you don't need. Afterall, if you can afford this car, you can afford anything it takes after the warranty expires. 4) It's under warranty, but we have to have the District Manager come and look & approve...so, if you don't mind, we'll just keep your car for the next month while we get the DM and order parts. The meter's fine though. Don't expect Fluke level accuracy, though. OTOH, Brymen (Greenlee), Extech and Amprope are 1/2 the price of Fluke, but double Kaiweets... The only thing I'm missing in this multimeter is the self-recharge. It needs an USB-C port and it can charge the batteries so no need to disassemble every time. (just like a mobile phone)

Me again. Also if you have it on milivolts and put the leads across the fuse its same as putting the leads together. Makes no sense what you are doing ?

Thanks for the video, it's ok. Criticism: The demonstration, even though it was elaborately made, doesn't make any sense. Because there is no good branded multimeter for a comparative measurement/I don't have a comparison with a branded multimeter. counter measurement! greetings from Germany PS: I have the multimeter. It is cumbersome to select the measuring point with one button, only clockwise, there is no back button. The automatic mode is of limited use. The measuring strips are not of good quality, the cable is very inflexible. the angled connector plugs are very annoying. without angle would be much better. The internal temperature gauge is more accurate than the external one. the external deviates from me by 2.5 degrees. I tried several sensors, always the same.
