Yea. I never understood why their power tools have such a crappy design. Looks super blah. You'd think, especially for the money and quality the name brings, they add some character to it. I get performance is performance and looks don't make something perform, but I always go by looks first. Of course if it doesn't perform, I won't buy it. But I always pick a bunch of good looking things (regardless of what it is, cars, tools, everything). Then I compare and get the best performing that still has the looks I like.

I will agree that for some, Snap On is the only tool they will own. When I worked at dealerships and repair shops I normally kept a open account on the truck. Even some Mac and Matco at times. This is why Snap on and other tool trucks have them, credit. If I needed something and did not have the funds to just purchase outright, " just put this on my account " I do understand that times have changed but having that truck come to you every week and seeing all those new shiny tools, sometimes it is more than a man can resist. But as much as I am a fan of their hand tools, I would personally never buy this impact. As far as "fanboys" sure, everyone is a fan of something. Brand of truck, car, motorcycle, golf clubs, lawn mower, shoes, watches, battery powered tools, etc...... That and when I was in the business you really did not have a choice. Truck tools or Craftsman, anything else was Chinese crap. Yeah I know there were a couple other brands but you get my point. Now days I buy Tekton for the most part, mostly American made, best on line warranty I have found, fantastic quality and really good price for American made tools. Last point, PRIDE, for some of us, that tool box full of quality American made tools is as important as the truck we drive, the Hotrod we built or the guns in our safe.

I will support my brothers and sisters every chance I can. As far as Snap on is concerned, I personally do not know of any other brand that us better. Equal, possibly, but in the hand tool world they have always been the gold standard by which everything is compared to. Over priced, depends on your thought process. Buying Snap on, or any truck tool, is supporting American workers, small business ( truck owner) and a good one will take care of me, brings it to my door step. So fan boy it is I guess. But like I said Tekton is very impressive and they continue to make new tools and stop importing them. Again, supporting a American manufacturer. Lol, sorry for the soap box preaching.

The Snap-On looks like a brushed-drive tool Milwaukee would have made like 8+ years ago. Just way way behind. The insulting part is the price, but that's how Snap-On stays in business--by selling a tool that costs $29, for $365. There has to be a way to pay all the dealers ("tool truck guys") and middle men in between I guess. Terrible business model that worked up until like 10 years ago maybe, but not anymore, esp. when you can see differences like this in performance, price, and quality. It's crazy to think that Milwaukee tools themselves are arguably overpriced (though deals and sales can make them much better), but then the Snap-On racket is a whole other level of overpricing. Makes you wonder how much cheaper cars would be if stealerships weren't part of the equation...
@rolandm9750
@rolandm9750 3 жыл бұрын
@@tripplefives1402 Exactly, so quite similar to car dealerships. So they need to make their profit too, so Snap-On overcharges them, then they overcharge *you* to make a buck. Just a waste of time buying their stuff, esp. for a "regular person". If you're in an industry and are actually getting good prices on this stuff from whomever you're buying from, can be okay. Otherwise seems like a lot of what they sell these day is just second-rate overpriced stuff they charge huge $$$ for because of their name/history. Even for mechanics, etc., these days a lot are becoming wise to stuff like this and finding it better to buy tools you can buy online, buy from big-box stores, and other similar avenues; instead of off "the tool truck" so they can have some "pro lookin' name" with lacklustre performance and rack up debt from the $$$ they're spending. And if the dealers are putting themselves into debt that's basically everyone...except Snap-On who is laughing it up all the way to the bank.

If you decide to go with a ratchet go with the Milwaukee high speed if you are going to be doing a lot of higher torqued bolts/nuts (and need speed in removal). The old large head fuel is junk in my opinion and the 3/8 brushed ratchet is awesome for things like 10mm & 12mm fasteners. It is the lightest of the bunch and preferred if not doing under-vehicle work. I run all of them on 2 amp hr batteries (auto wrecking work) and have been very pleased. I had broke a few of the non-fuel brushed 3/8s prior to buying the high speed ratchet. Milwaukee has a very good warranty and exchange policy. BTW I have Snap On ratchets as well. I really like their 1/4” but batteries, chargers, and misc things like covers and what not are way way overpriced.

I prefer DeWalt and I'll tell you why. A lot (not all) but a lot of DeWalt's tools are nade in USA. Milwaukee makes absolutely positively zero electric tools, battery or cordless) in 🇺🇸. At least DeWalt is trying to make electric tools here. About the Snap-on....one advantage it has is the ease with which you can perform maintenance on the tool. As example the infamous Milwaukee 2763 (1/2 impact) if you want to just simply grease the anvil area you have to take off the nose cone ..right? Milwaukee has 4 bolts right there to remove the nose cone...right? WRONG. Remove those 4 bolts and that nose cone isn't going anywhere. You absolutely must remove EVERY other bolt on that tool just to do maintenance. (18 fasteners I believe) moreover Milwaukee clearly states disassembly will void warranty yet you MUST disassemble the Milwaukee completely just to maintain the amvil area. The Snap-on on both models (8850 the above tool you're reviewing) you remove 4 bolts, pull off nose cone, grease, replace nose cone, tighten fasteners and resume working. DeWalts 1/2 full size gun can be maintained the sane way as Snap-on. 4 bolts and grease it. Again the Milwaukee needs complete disassembly to hit that grease area. Just my .02 cents ol" good old cash.

@@zorbaseatery4745 I wanted an impact wrench that I could get into tighter spaces than my older original M18 platform Gen 1 midtorque. The stubby fit the bill since I can use the torpedo style 2.0 battery instead of the 6.0 boot style battery and maneuver it in some pretty crazy positions. The first day I got the stubby I ran into that scenario while working on a Honda. I normally run it with the 6.0 boot style battery, but slapped in the 2.0 instead which gave me the extra clearance I needed. Being able to make the stubby footprint even smaller by switching batteries is the main advantage over any 12v or 18v platform even the new Matco 16V stubby that has a similar boot style battery, but not a torpedo style like the M12. Like others have said in his stubby battle video I do believe the 1/2 stubby may hit a bit harder than the 3/8 with the bigger anvil and using normal sockets on regular fasteners. The 3/8 socket he fabricated for testing in this vid and other videos has a bit more mass added so inturn creates more force kicking the 1/2 stubby's ass lol. I just got the 3/8 since I already had a 1/2 impact. I have no regrets the 3/8 is pretty strong and gets off the majority of car and truck fasteners the key is using it with a 4.0 or 6.0 battery's and deep impact sockets for that extra mass to get the most out of it. I also purchased the newer Gen 2 midtorque not too long ago, because again I wanted something smaller than my Gen 1 midtorque and boy I'm sure happy I did. Believe it or not you appreciate the weight and size when your wrenching underneath vehicles. I use the compact HO 3.0 battery with it when needed other than that the stubby is my go too. The Bosch Anvil would be pretty cool on a stubby👍. If I was to choose a first weekend warrior impact tool I'd get the new Gen 2 midtorque it's an all around great compact impact and has enough power to get most jobs done.

Yes, that Gen2 Mid is a beast of an impact, especially for the size. The stubby is still a bit smaller and quite a bit lighter. It's an easier tool to handle. Thanks for watching.

@@Shoptoolreviews Agreed that is why the stubby is still my go too for sure. BTW will you be doing a review on the new Matco 16V stubby in the future that be cool. They claim 300 breakaway, but I still think the stubby has it beat when it comes to price and size being able to switch from the 4.0 and 6.0 boot looking batteries to the torpedo 3.0 for getting into super tight spaces👍

Snap on hand tools are great. Personal experience, tool truck customer service, not so great. 3 months to replace a ratcheting screwdriver (years ago, not pandemic supply issues), which is the best tool of its kind. But 3 months, replaced a limited edition Nascar driver screwdriver with a plain black handle. Had a T bar/breaker bar, broke in 2 at the center, not using a cheater pipe. Told its not warranted where it broke cuz that's a weak spot. Snap on tool truck no longer allowed on our property due to poor customer service, then got an attitude when he was reported to corporate. A lot of Snap On power & air tools you are just paying for the name. This video is proof of that

As a motorcycle mechanic I love my Snap-on tools. But I also love my Milwaukee and Harbor Freight Tools. In my opinion, a good tool is....well, a good tool. And a bad tool is a bad tool. I don't really care what the label says. BTW, you purchase these tools because you love your franchisee. Sometimes it is easier as a busy mechanic to to hand in bad, broken or underperforming tools to someone once a week than packing up and sending back something you purchased online. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I did all of the suspension on my Jeep using an M12 stubby 1/2in drive gun. Honestly it's just impressive.

Have used quite a few cordless tools over the years but the 12v dewalt is plenty powerful and fits my had like a glove! Own the 1/4 Mac Tools impact as well, both amazing tools 👍

I bet if the Milwaukee were brand spanking new just as the Dewalt , it would have cracked that 500, I do believe that years of wear do matter at least in that test🤗🙋🏻‍♂️Greta Video Tim!!!

I know it's dumb but I'm disappointed the 12 volt Dewalt doesn't look all badass like the new atomic impact wrench, it's similar to the look of the Milwaukee which I like too, I think the 12 volt Dewalt looks goofy even though I love Dewalt, but I know looks don't remove nuts and bolts

Love my m12 stubby. Snap on hand tools are great, but overpriced, their power tools are just awful. Don't ever buy a snap on power tool, you will regret it.

Am i the only one that thinks the snap on looks like garbage? Literally looks like a plastic toy youd buy for your kid. Not brand bias at all but i think for the money, you should be gettin a damn nice lookin and working impact.

In my neck of the woods the milwaukee M12 stubby regularly goes on sale for $149 CA sometimes as bag kit for $249CA u get tool a 4mp and a 2 amp batteries with the charger.. So it's either DeWalt or Milwaukee. that snap-on makes absolutely no sense in any shape nor form even if someone already has a snap-on batteries and charger..
