Hello Sensei ShorinRyuRonin. I have been in the martial arts for almost 30 years now. We have three version of doing kata. One is like everyone and quite breathing, one is quite breathing with kiai, and one with all breathing like this. It just so happen this was put up as video for display. If you do Shorin Ryu, then I would love to get some insights from you and share our knowledge in this okinawan karate. So much to learn and still learning.
@rocco33774 жыл бұрын
I do Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan, we just had a Karate Camp at my Dojo Eddie Bathea Jr is our Kyoshi. I learned this from Hanshi Stolsmart, but her's had Crane movements for the shuto turns after elbow, kick, punch. Punch hand and leg stomp and rear shuto as you turn around. I believe she called this Matsubayashi version, since I have learned this, I have been pouring over information on the beginnings of Shorin-Ryu and links to Fang & White Crane & Southern Shaolin/ Incense shop boxing. I was having trouble remembering all the steps, then I came across your video again, thank you so much! As soon as I watched I knew, it was just a slight variation on yours, looks more like a grab than a shuto. But thank you so much, your video and your movements have helped me immensely, I am a 43 year old Orange Belt, with my eye on Blue before Thanksgiving. I have been preparing for a LIFE LONG journey with Karatedo. o7 salute

this guy has extreme power you can see it from how loose he is with his movement and from the sound his strikes make. Excellent form you would not want to take a punch from this brother.
@lukaszwieczorek97015 жыл бұрын
Brother Jared yeah I noticed that too. Unless you practice like him it's hard to understand how hard it is to develop that power.
@lukaszwieczorek97015 жыл бұрын
Very strong technique. Great punches 👊🏻
@TheOctabreaker3 жыл бұрын
I imagine he has great power, it seems so, and I definitely wouldn't want to take a punch from him, keep in mind though, the loud noise is him literally slapping his stomach, you can see it in slow motion, and you can sort of notice it in normal speed. I'm not saying anything against him at all, this is fantastic, just don't mistake the "snap of his gi" or "power of hi strike" for the noise because its him slapping his core.
@superfriend779311 ай бұрын
@@TheOctabreakerdo you know why he’s slapping himself as you describe? I’ve never seen this done. What is the purpose?
@shalysagavin635411 ай бұрын
@@superfriend7793I have no idea why, and I wonder why. I started noticing it years ago. It created the illusion of a snap but I’m unsure if it serves a purpose.

See Nagamine Sensei's book 'The Essence of Okinwan Karate-Do"..pg 111: Observe that though his feet are in shiko-dachi position, the height of his stance is more like kiba-dachi. In Goju-ryu this kata is Gekisai-dai-ichi, and the shiko-dachi is deeper. View the several examples of the performance of this kata and note the subtle difference in waza amongst the stylists. The pattern is the same but there are differences in blocking, punching, and stepping, as well as the rhythm and pace. Food for thought. One observer's flawless can be another's not so. With respect.
@mrantek73736 жыл бұрын
dude. it is because Shuri te has higher stances. Goju which is Naha te has lower shiko dachi. Fukyugata ni is Goju ryu kata. however used as training one same as Fukyu Ichi is Shuri te but also used in Goju. Kind of tribue two major schools in Okinawa.
@P0rt3rz225 жыл бұрын
It's interesting though, because I believe that Gekisai Dai ichi/Ni are relatively new Katas. Created in the 1940's By Miyagi Chojun.
@TheOctabreaker3 жыл бұрын
I did Tang Soo Do when I was younger, for many years, and the only real differences for us were deeper stances, and instead of going at an angle once you turn we were directly to the side. other wise our first form was the same.

I've been studying Matsubayashi ryu for 8 years now. But I studied Go-ju ryu as a kid. Although this Fugkata ichi is essentially identical to Sensei Nagamine's style. You will notice the crescent steps used on this style as well as the breathing techniques make this a Go-Ju ryu style of the kata. Still all in all I was impressed with his performance of these katas. As Osensei said in his book the Esscense of Okinawan Karate Do, we should respect all forms of martial arts.
@brotherjared21977 жыл бұрын
goju i've seen its pretty impressive. i'd say its the most internal u can get with stuff outside kung fu.
@mrantek73736 жыл бұрын
dear Dave. Fukyugata Ichi is Shorin Ryu - Shuri te, Fukyugata Ni is Goju Ryu - Naha te. Because of those 2 major schools in Okinawa both have those as training kata in their systems.

Are you not supposed to stay at the same level/height in the transition from down block to your Oi-zuki in your style? Assuming just a style difference. Like in mine our head level isn't supposed to change at any point. Atleast not in the first five basic katas. Very clean techniques. 🙏
@richardrooney218911 ай бұрын
Hey man. Yeah in Matsubayashi Ryu, your levels chance. During fukyugata ichi low block, you should be at a noticeably lower level than when you step up and punch 👌

Doesn't turn his head first, crossing on the downblocks is weak. Heavy GI's ALWAYS make snap BUT he's accentuating it by having his elbow shoot out too far, it should rub your side. Pocket hand's too low, shouldn't be on your obi.....
