Amazing at his old age he can still do that. I reached the level of Brown Belt Gracie BJJ and missed it. Do to the pandemic and other issues. My original old Okinawan Karate help me deal with stress. God bless..

I've done some Tae Kwon Do also Tang Soo Do which seem the same as far as forms. Shorin Ryu is different....Okinawan Karate I felt comfortable joining in with katas....or forms...weapons I was asked and accepted a no staff....I quickly realized this is the karate I will go with....I have trophies from tournaments in tournaments and is fun but this is very grounded....it appealed to me. I thank Sensei Lisa for her sharing..

at 1:34 it's not uchiuke gedan barai. it's sotouke (inside to outside receive/block). higa-sensei didnt say uchiuke gedanbarai. the correct uchiuke gedanbarai is 4:40 , and also sensei said it..
@kiiroobi62925 жыл бұрын
In Okinawan Karate these two defenses are with inverse names. Uchi-Uke - Soto- Uke, and Soto-Uke - Uchi-Uke
@kiiroobi62925 жыл бұрын
if you think about the translations of the Ukes, Okinawan Karate makes more sense. Uchi Uke - Soto Uke

Also, sometimes they speak in terms of where you are in relation to your opponent's attack. Are you Uchi "inside" his direction of attack or Soto "outside" his direction of attack. And not all are definite in meaning. Its loose and fluid much like karate techniques.

That uchi uke gedan barai combination looks a lot like the Shotokan gedan barrai alone

Shotokan is shorin ryu..they changed the names of the katas from chinese to japanese and made the stances deeper and movements bigger

I appreciate the emphasis on kihon, but where's the cool kata bunkai and kumite techniques Kobayashi shorin-ryu is known for?
