@moviemaker2011z3 жыл бұрын
Okay, i saw this video 7 years ago and have had this video saved on not only my ipad, but my computer as well. I have been sure to keep this video with me because i just love it so much. Back then 7 years ago i didnt really understand what it was that i watched, all i knew is that it made me not only sad but almost cry. Now i am 25 years old and i am not ashamed to say that coming back all these years later i cried when it finally hit like an anvil. No happy ending, no evil bad guy wins, just a bitter and depressing realization that she found her friend, but also killed them with her own hands. Please note that recently i have lost a few of my dogs due to old age (had them since i was a child) and have only really cried when it dawned on me how little i spent with them in their last months, and the regret of not doing more, or showing more love towards them. This video reminds me of them in a strange way and is one of the very few things that can make me feel remorseful or depressed and manages to make me tear up or as it finally has done, made me cry a bit which is why i love it. Great story, great and beautiful animation, sounds are just to die for. And its all of that which keeps this on my devices for future viewing. I come back for all of that and to feel something, and no not in the way that makes me heartless or unfeeling, but movies today are so generic and 2 dimensional that they are basically a dime a dozen. THIS makes me want to get invested, to see them grow and build off of each other. I WANT sintel to find scales and bring them home safe, i legit cried when she killed scales, and i can almost feel the pain sintel feels when she discovers the truth. Its so rare to feel anything anymore in these modern movies and this short film always gets to me and i love it. If we could have movies a fraction as good as this we would be lucky, maybe even blessed to have such quality in our lives. 18 year old me didnt understand, but thats because 18 year old me didnt really face sacrifice or loss. 25 year old me has lost arguably my best friends (my dogs) and fears losing my loved ones everyday and THAT is what makes this short film so memorable. I pray to god this film won an award because if not its a shame such brilliance wasn’t recognized. Much love to the people who made this short film possible.

No matter how many tutorials i follow, i'll always get stuck thinking "Wtf i'm supposed to do with that cube"
@gypsyofthebard7 жыл бұрын
Well one thing you can do is press tab to enter Edit mode then left click+shift on the different vertices you want to alter. Or you can selct four to select a face and from there press E to extrude, from there it really is a simple matter of seeing where it goes. I started off by making weapons like long swords since really the only tools you need to know are how to manipulate the vertices, such as selecting a face in edit mode then moving it to make the cube longer in the direction I moved it. From there I simple selected an edge and moved it close to the center and I had on edge. I kept doing this rinse and repeat adding a few experimentats at a time every attempt to see what I could do or improve. Took me 2 weeks before I got really profiecent with the program and I didn't use a single tutorial.

@RoboWeener10 жыл бұрын
Yeah and why did she kill it after it sniffed her and was gonna let her go? At 10 minutes exact scales recognized her and she killed him, then she recognized him by his scar at like 10:07
@alex12foster10 жыл бұрын
Well to be honest, it's a dragon, and she didn't recognise him, most people would have killed it. Which is a shame :(
@RoboWeener10 жыл бұрын
But maybe the first dragon was scales's mom, and it was trying to rescue scales from the girl in the first place. Then she wouldn't have had to try to get him back anyway, unless she was being greedy. I mean, if it was the same species of dragon, and it comes and grabs a baby, it's probably trying to protect it.

+Itz Kaleb the rendering time depends by the computer used to render. On a normal computer, probably it would take really 10 years or more, but on a supercomputer it would take only a day (really incredible). Consider that Big Hero 6 (the film-animation realised by disney), need one milion hours of rendering on a normal computer, but it was rendered on a supercomputer with 55000 cores, and the rendering was completed in a day (55000 cpu * 24 hours = about one milion) here the link to the article if you are interested: www.engadget.com/2014/10/18/disney-big-hero-6/
@AlessioInnocenzi9 жыл бұрын
+The Emerald Gun you're right: rendering images with blender is fast, but rendering videos is much more complex (it needs much more graphical operations). This short film is truly powerful, and puts a story at it's best length. Most movies will try to draw something out a bit too long, like SAW. It's 2 guys in a room figuring out how they got there and how they get out while being encouraged to kill each other. This is a masterpiece. Being able to, in 15 minutes, tell the story of a young woman and her unlikely friend, and how a long journey can change one from determined to violent. How one can forgive for the worst of all (and honestly, this part may be an unreasonable level of forgiveness).
@morganminecraftlegion91017 жыл бұрын
I urge the creators of this short film to make a full movie. Doesn't even have to be the same topic. The animation, production, direction, and everything was pitch perfect in this one.

What she did: kill Scales What she thougt she'd do: kill Scales' mother/father. You pick whats worse
@LeafMaltieze9 жыл бұрын
+Goom It was never clarified as to who the larger dragon is in the flashback. She had no idea if they were the parent.
@Goomenstein9 жыл бұрын
Leaf Maltieze Maybe-Scales obviously felt safe and protected by that dragon. That would be enough to at the very least consider the possibility.
@ianvids48679 жыл бұрын
It was scales. realizing that she has aged, so was the dragon. scale's mother/father is dead, and scales has grown up.
@SayderCascading9 жыл бұрын
+Goom She didn't go on her journey with the intention of killing the other dragon regardless if it was Scales' parent or not. She expected Scales to recognize her when she arrived and, as the short portrays, planned on sneaking in and bringing him back with her. If the baby dragon in the nest was indeed Scales, or if she had approached the actual Scales first, he (she?) probably would have recognized her and the battle would not have ensued.

+Goom She didnt think it was scales parent

u should make a 90 minute long movie.
@solarmkarus28459 жыл бұрын
+Gater2000 They probably didn't have the money for it or the plot needed. If they wanted to make a high quality 90 min movie then they would probably need at least 5 million cause they don't need to hire celeb voice actors. They do need good story and animators(animators they have :3)
@masol37269 жыл бұрын
Im working on a dual barrel turret cannon vs another dual barrel cannon turret firing shells at each other. its very hard. It took me 40 minutes to make the first cannon and the hard part is making the scenery.
@GeeMannn9 жыл бұрын
+Fred Walsh actually, only 5million dollars is VERY cheap. i'd say if they had at least 60 million then they can make the movie.
@solarmkarus28459 жыл бұрын
George Emdin I m only guessing cause i'm sure a lot of the cost comes from hiring well known celebs. Idk cause i'm not in the department.
@GeeMannn9 жыл бұрын
Fred Walsh oh ok i see what you're talking about. then yes i agree.

I wonder if they used motion capture or bvh files. If so, then this animation had to been really hard.
@Bradman1758 жыл бұрын
*if not you meant.
@BlackALLucian8 жыл бұрын
Brad No, I really meant "if so", then this animation was really really hard work. And it looks like they did.

Al Jariel Yisrael Isn't motion capture easier than animating by hand?
@hijtohema8 жыл бұрын
I followed the whole thing through their website when it was made and as fas as I know they didn't. It's all old fashioned key-framing animation. They did use reference video's of the two voice actors as a guide for certain gestures and movements though.
@jackchristensen58009 жыл бұрын
That was the best animation I have ever seen, literally. I loved the HD quality, sound, and definitely the music, all are very well done. The animation was high quality and the story itself is awesome, dramatic, sad, and exciting all at the same time. I am subscribing immediately am liking and sharing this video too.

Actually shows human nature. We have become so self centred, impatient that we kill anyone for selfish motives. The way we kill for our food when theres no need but if same is done to our dear thing, it hurts. Nd in rage we so so much thats destroying the planet as a whole.

blender render in CPU or GPU?
