When we play guitar and can't reach the strings we want to reach it's nut usually because our fingers are too short but that they are in the wrong position. Our fingers are connected to our hand at the palm and where those knuckles are is what determines if our fingers are long enough to reach the strings. We usually approach the guitar as if we're going to hold the guitar by the neck and that limits where our palm knuckles are. If those knuckles are behind the front of the neck, the fingerboard, or fretboard, we can't reach around to play the notes we want to. If we let our thumb come off the back of the guitar and free up the palm, the knuckles can move into the position we need. It's as if we stand 10 feet away from our guitar amp and complain that our arms are too short to reach the amp. we need to walk over to it instead of growing longer arms. With our fingers we move the palm knuckles forward and we can reach every note with ease and accuracy on guitar.
