Regarding not having ownership. Of what you sell, how does this differ from you financing a car or home (using Islamic finance) and selling it before you've paid it off in full. Of course, the proceeds will be used to pay the bank. But, the car or house still did not belong to you when you sold it. 🤷🏼♂️ No, the main difference is knowing at what price you'll sell

True but there is a huge reason why they reallowed it. Familiar is squeezes? Recently GME, AMC, etc. Squeezing shorts to boost the price action in an insane fashion. Absolutely unethical and truly sounds so haram. Plus how market makers hide bid and offer to fool the people, etc. Both long and short sides. Anything to do with the stock market is ridiculously manipulative. Stay the hell away.

Salaam, what would you say about shorting for day trading only and always providing a stop loss? This would eliminate the risk factor completely because you are only risking a certain percentage that you feel comfortable with? Or would the borrowing issue rule this out anyway? I also talked with a friend about shorting and he explained that it's necessary to the market to correct itself so it has some use as well but will prefer your advice on the matter Look forward to your reply, I'm currently not shorting following your advice but as you know, the market has been quite bearish recently so the desire has been there haha Thanks

4:35 Okay but when I make any prediction of whether the price will go up or down, I would always place a stop loss, so I respectfully disagree with what you said about the loss accumulated being "infinite" or "unlimited" as you can easily quanify if with good money managment and identifyig where the price hits a no return point at which you are forced to close your position to minimize losses. So for this example when shorting the XYZ stock I would place a stop loss at $150 or even below that and my take profit would be at around $50 to fit my prediction. And even if i entered a long position on that stock I would place my stop loss and take profit at $50 ( or higher) and $150 respectively. If I am wrong please enlighten me.

@MrSam1985184 жыл бұрын
I disagree with your understanding 1) "You can't sell something that you borrowed " The basic of shorting is that you are entering into a contract with the market or broker. You are not at all selling something that you don't own. You buy a contract. 2) the fees is the cost of the contract. Not Riba. This is not correct understanding you have. 3) Value creation - for this you have to understand how market works. For a stock market to work you need both long and short positions. Short sellers are the opposite of stock buyers. The value creation from short seller is that they make the market exist. Without them market won't exist. The buyers will have inherent bias for stocks to go up and only for the market to explode at some point. So the value creation from shorting is that the stocks find a more realistic and true value.
@trm40583 жыл бұрын
If point 3) is considered value creation then Can you also explain why SEC bans short selling during 2008 financial crisis?
@MrSam1985183 жыл бұрын
@@trm4058 I dont deny that some short investors want to benefit by scaring investors. And that can have particularly bad destabilizing impact on market during recession when Fed is trying to stabilize. But for the non-recession time,, shorting helps stabilize market price keeping it more grounded in reality vs. longs pushing it way high.

Salam Alaikum brother. Just wondering why didn't Bitcoin fall as part of Maisir? Because technically if I buy a stock my money is used to create value like the business buys a new land and etc however for Bitcoin there is no company which is using that money to create any value. In fact the value of Bitcoin is what people chose to value it at according to some experts. So does it not create unnecessary risks?

Bitcoin is a currency. Dont compare it with companies and shares providing goods and services to people. The sole purpose of bitcoin is to provide value which is decentralized and backed up by codings on a blockchain. Salaam Akhi, I hope your well and keeping safe in this current climate. Thanks for recording this video, alot of good information, Im glad I found your page as I am looking to learn this (or have already started). So just a few questions I have which may be basic and probably already asked. I understand that shorting can be infinite loss in theory but 3 things (and please mind my beginner knowledge or terms), by no means am i trying to be offensive just would like clarity and firm convincing hence the points below. 1) Dont we know no stock actually increases in price infinitely and never has and from chart reading and news and market sentiment would know that it may not go passed lets say its previous ATH or local resistance? 2) Cant this infinite risk just be mitigated by placing a stop loss and knowing how to manage risk properly with the position size formula? 3) I understand the issue of shorting doesnt add any value to the company or the market or the world, but it does for yourself right? would this not be counted as Value add and also where is the shari evidence or principles for this condition. Many thanks Br JazakAllah Khair

If a retail vegetable seller buys tomatoes in the morning from the whole sale vegetable market and sells it by afternoon will that be considered as short selling?
