Short Takes: 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML320 (Start Up, Engine, Full Tour

In continuation of my "Short Takes" video series at All City Auto, I give a tour of a 2001 Mercedes Benz ML320. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

My ML320 from 2001 has 180,130 miles on it and it's just fine. All it has gotten is minor work on the brakes. I don't know what y'all are a doing wrong with y'all's cars.

My uncle brought one of these ML320s back in 2003. He went to look at the car real early in the morning when it was parked under the shadows of the dealership. He wanted a black one, so he went with it. Only to find out that when he went to pick the car up, it was navy blue like this one lol

Just a quick FYI for those looking to purchase one of these W163s, when you see the Bose system and hit navi and it says navigation system nlt installed, it means you need to install the navigation module and antenna. Not all bose systems with the screen came with nav even though they all had the button it was a 1300 add on option. If you open the faceplate and dont see a cd slot then you dont have Nav. Also if you did amd you pressed the Navi button it would say (please insert navigation cd) not (no navigation installed)

The ML320 is my favorite car. My buddy got a 99 for a steal ($700) the only problem was the drivers side window got stuck down so he had to open the door panel to get it back up and now you have to pull this metal cord to get the door open

yes it came off, its meant to pull off there go check any car they all do it its if the sun is to your left you can put the visor to the left to stop the sun! these cars are also very strong and good off road with the right tyres and can have 7 seats cant say that about an old x5 can you .

Dominik Svitek my mom is pushing 280k miles on hers. When she bought it i thought it was a bad idea. Now several years down the road it's still going. Even though she lives in GA. (Super smooth roads you have to be a complete moron to destroy a car down there) it's still amazing to see it still running

I have a 2000 ML430 that I bought from a dealer. It was a one owner car and very well taken care of over the years before I got it. The only things I don't care for about this SUV and other older ML's I've driven, is it feels like I'm driving a pick up truck that throws you all over the place when making turns and hitting bumps in the road. Every 1998 to 2005 ML I've driven has a very rough and noisy ride and makes it very hard to believe it's a Mercedes. Also the placement of the cup holders is so ridiculous and a very dumb idea. I've had 2 S Class's and now this ML and it seems to me that back in the 90's and early 2000's a lot of foreign auto makers put VERY LITTLE THOUGHT into the placement of the cup holders. For one the cup holder is right in front of the air vent so if the heat is on it makes your cold drink hot. Plus at a quick take off your cup, can, bottle always jumps out of the cup holder falling onto the floor. I'm glad now they finally figured it out, but back in the day for a person to pay 50 grand or more for one of these you could at least give them a smoother ride and better cup holders.

Its hard to say. I can just share my knowledge maybe it helps. 3.2 V6 in W163 MLs are electronically limited to 6400RPM (tried in in manual mode and funny thing is that the transmission wont upshift :D). In auto mode it shifts: 5700RPM 1st->2nd and at 6000RPM from 2nd onwards. E-class w210 uses the same engine but tachometer has red line at just 6000RPM. FYI you can find e320 with 6400RPM redline but those are inline 6 instead of V6 they swapped it in 1998. I would say mercedes just didnt care at that time :D

MY 2002 ML 320 BABY IS EXACTLY THE SAME. IT IS THE BEST. I ADDED A FRONT AND BACK BUMPER GUARD. BEAUTIFUL!! EVERYBODY ALWAYS ADMIRE IT AND GIVE A THUMB UP, IT HAS 98,000 MILES. MY 2003 ML 500 ONLY MOVE OFF FASTER AND TAKE ME LONG JOURNEY. SMOOTH AROUND EVERYBODY. LOVE THEM.

The ML320 is a FAIL in my opinion. My aunt has a carbon copy of this car, every single inch is exactly the same as hers and hers is fraught with problems. It's been well-treated but has 100k and is leaking every fluid in the book. We had an ML430 from the same year (2000) and it was one of the best purchases we made, it had power, unlike the ML320, and actually made a noise (exhaust) you wanted to hear, not groany, whiny noises...
