Rules and Explanations
Rules: (1) Only use the one Pokémon in Battle, others for HMs are fine. (2) No Items in battle (3) No Glitches* (4) Set Mode (5) No saving in the Elite Four (6) No evasion moves
Badge Boost "Glitch" Explanation: When you collect odd numbered badges the game boosts a stat by 12.5%. Brock gives ATK, Surge DEF, Koga SPE, and Blaine SPC (in game text is wrong). When any of your stats are modified (even by you using a move like Withdraw, or your opponent using Leer) the badge boosts are re-applied. So If you use Swords Dance, you also gain *an additional 12.5% in Speed/Defence/Special (on top of the 12.5% you were supposed to be getting). When you level up, the game corrects this error, and only the non-glitch 12.5% remains. Because of how difficult it is to avoid, I've allowed for it to be exploited, since opponents will spam Leer/Growl anyways, and this way battles are less random. Red/Blue are extremely buggy, so there's always going to be some glitches present, and because of how unavoidable this one is, it is allowed in runs, and considered more like a special Generation 1 mechanic as opposed to a glitch.

@rasmusn.e.m1064
@rasmusn.e.m1064 7 ай бұрын
@@KeiranTrick That's the trouble with proverbs. They say things faster than full explanations do, but they require you to infer the correct interpretation of the fewer words they use, which is also why they sometimes sound poetic; counterintuitiveness is one of the most used poetic devices. Ie. “The candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long” -normally you expect something that looks more vivacious to last longer. In this case, the intuitive understanding would be yours: you can more quickly get to the cutting of wood if you don't sharpen your axe first, however if you measure the cutting of the wood from the completion of the task rather than the beginning, the sharpening of the axe nets you a net time save. The semantic reason the correct interpretation is counterintuitive in this case is that 'delay' has a vague object; 'the cutting of the wood' is an activity, not a moving thing/animal/person, so the delay could really be measured from any point of the activity, however the proverb starts off with the observer in the pre-state of both 'sharpening of the axe' and 'cutting of the wood', so our intuitive understanding of 'delay' is that it applies to a series of events that happen after each other, not a single activity. "I did this and then this and then this, and then this happened." -This could be viewed as a series of events or a single activity: the events don't have a distinct time dimension, while the activity consists of events that provide the time dimension. At the end of the proverb, it asks the interpreter to interpret 'delay' with the observer in the post-state of both actions and also to interpret them as two different permutations of one activity: 'the cutting of the wood without sharpening the axe first' and 'the cutting of the wood with a prior sharpening of the axe'. I hope this made sense. I use 'event' and 'activity' in a pretty specific sense here. It's how we use them in semantics, and they are a bit abstracted from their usual sense; like, of course, events take time, but the way we describe them with our language makes them seem like nouns even though they should be verbs, and nouns are archetypically objects, people, animals, and other things that we normally characterise by their spatial dimensions rather than their temporal ones. It would be weird to answer "what is a cheetah?" with "8 to 10 years presuming a survived infancy", but that is basically the inverse of what we do when we describe actions as events. I suspect that the reason we do this is a result of a brain capacity-saving move. Events are simpler to process than activities because they are less complex.

The reason the jump from level 12 to 13 helped so much against Brock is because of damage rounding thresholds. I learned it from the videos of another Pokemon solo runner, Scott's Thoughts, and it essentially means that reaching a level whose last digit is 3, 5, 8, or 0 will give a larger damage boost than other levels due to the way the damage calculation formula (which includes level in it) rounds damage. I don't think I've ever heard you talk about them before, and those magic numbers might be something to keep in mind for future playthroughs.
@erik19borgnia
@erik19borgnia 7 ай бұрын
This happens because, in the damage calculation, the level influences multiplicatively, but its multiplied by 2 and divided by 5. Since all divisions are rounded down, that means that levels ending on 0, 3, 5 and 8 make a jump in the function so it increases the damage. For example: 10: 10x2 = 20, 20/5 = 4 11: 11x2 = 22, 22/5 = 4.4, rounded down to 4 12: 12x2 = 24, 24/5 = 4.8, rounded down to 4 13: 13x2 = 26, 26/5 = 5.2, rounded down to 5 (damage increases) 14: 14x2 = 28, 28/5 = 5.6, rounded down to 5 15: 15x2 = 30, 30/5 = 6 (damage increases again) Etc...

14:00 JRose, I would like to mention a small mistake here on the badge boost strategy you thought off to beat Rival 4's Gyarados using harden against Pidgeotto: Up to that point you only had Brock and Surge badges that would give badge boost, and while common sense and in-game text say thunder badge gives a speed boost, it's actually a defense boost, Koga's badge is the one that gives a speed boost. In other words, even if you got harden and used that to badge boost glitch your rhyhorn, it wouldn't outspeed Gyarados because it wouldn't get any badge boosts in speed, only in attack and defense. This was probably a mistake by Gamefreak since they fixed that in Generation 3 remakes.

It was a neck and neck battle, I started losing, brought down to only my Mega Blastoise, who did WORK on the remainder of my friends team, leaving only said Rhyperior. We both just looked at each other like "Bro, it's over. I win." But no, the beast tanks my attack with only 1/4 of it's health missing, the countering Earthquake ending the match. We were both so convinced it was a bug or glitch or something, we spent the rest of the day working out the math of the attacks. Rhyperior really is that beastly to take a Mega-Launcher boosted, 4x effective attack and not even blink.

Thank you so much Jrose. I have been watching your videos for more than 2 years now and I am really hyped for the very last one of this series. I'm sure I will cry when it's over but I'm also looking forward to what you have planned for after the series. Just keep going the way you make your videos, they are just amazing :) Just as an idea for an even more interesting comparism between the runs: You could differentiate between level groups AND base form/mid form/fully evolved in the end to see who is the best in each category

Always a pleasure to see another gen 1 solo run. Definitely is a strong one but I had a feeling misty might prove a challenge for it. May the day meet you kindly. And as always looking forward to the next one.

7:52 I think this is the first time in this entire series he goes to this part of the S.S. Anne. I mean, besides the implication that he battled and defated EVERY NPC in the Weedle run, that'd be the only time he went to those routes south of Lavender.

It's a shame that you don't have the Real Time listed on your tier chart. It would really help to show how much of the time is luck based and how much a pokemon has a consistent strategy.

I've said this for some time. He says that it's not fair to the pokemon since it's rng..but that also goes to the positive rng too. The real time should be there to show who the true champions are.

This was like a double bluff; given the video title, I thought for sure that this would be the time where the video ends early and there's a part 2.

JRose, I love your videos. I only have one question for you. What would you do if you were to play an optimal, "as always", Favorite run? What would that look like? The way your brain works, I am fascinated with how you would digest this request. w
