9:40 Wireless charging goes from AC to DC to high frequency AC. This HF AC over the coil causes a changing magnetic field which is picked up by the receiver coil. The receiver generates HF AC which gets rectified to the charging voltage.

So, how much loss occurs with 50W wireless charging?
@OussamaAbuUmar10 ай бұрын
@defeqel6537 It really depends. That's why I was disappointed that he didn't mention what the loss would be. There are losses simply from the allignment of the phone to the charger, losses in the different switching steps, and also the kind of circuit used to create the HF AC. A class D or E amplifier has an efficiency of 90%. So there you lose some power already. I would be surprised if the efficiency of any wireless charger would be higher than 80%.
@TheElipsus10 ай бұрын
@@OussamaAbuUmar wireless charging at efficiencies in the 90+% efficiency is already done for some car systems (witricity claims 93%) and with correct magnetic coupling you can realistically operate at 90+ on small scale devices already
@OussamaAbuUmar10 ай бұрын
@RomainCavallini I am not familiar with the ones you mentioned, but these are often models that are not realistic for everyday use. The same with the amplifiers used in the systems. A class-e and class-d amplifier are capable of having an efficiency of 100% and this can be reproduced in tests, but in practice this will never be the case. Same as the advertised milage of electric cars. The manufacturer was able to achieve the range, but in the real world, there is at least a difference of 10% or more.

After some years now with a OnePlus 9 I can say that hardware-wise it's been absolutely excellent, my big issues are with software and vendor-lock in. OxygenOS is simply not good. Basic features don't exist like removing the Google Discover page from the home screen, configuring drawer icons/labels separately from the home screen, removing settings toggles you don't need from the status bar (minimum is 11!), and there is an ongoing bug for many years now which makes alarms randomly not work on battery because for some reason the Clock app is not excluded (and can't be excluded!) from being put to sleep by the OS to conserve power. As for vendor lock-in, this is something I only noticed recently as my peripherals have worn out. Fast charge doesn't work on third party cables for some reason, not sure if that has changed in the newer versions but it sure is annoying.

This is a default feature and it cannot be changed.` My current phone is a OnePlus 3T, and it does not have an unreadable red clock. I'm kinda disappointed that there was no talking point about the length of software updates. With samsung and google pushing for longer support for their devices I think this is becoming increasingly important in deciding between devices.
@adendragon70510 ай бұрын
It is but in my case I'm buying new and likely upgrading before it matters to me personally. I would prefer to see hardware get supported by software for longer though just to avoid the waste. Used to be you could rely on 3rd party roms to do the job for you there but now those are much less common or quality.
@Dis23610 ай бұрын
@@adendragon705 I think you might be the minority though. Phones are getting to the point that they're good enough for most people for 4-5 years. I still have a oneplus 6 as a backup which I needed recently and I was suprised by how swooth it still was. Mind you I had lineage OS on it which brings me back to your other point. Yes, community driven support is or was amazing and it's very unfortunate that unlocking bootloaders are now blocked by most manufacturers. It's bit less painfull if a company supports a phone for 4+ years but still, I'd still prefer if they'd just allow it.

About three times in the following 10 seconds?? Like, again, thanks for correcting, but this computer voice is pulling at least me out of the flow a bit and in this case, it was easily avoidable I think

I would love to give Oneplus another shot but the Oneplus 11 just had too many issues regarding refresh rate on non-standard apps. A fixed 60HZ on apps like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. is just simply not okay. I heard these issues are returning this year so I'll stick to my S24U for a year.

I'm still rocking my original OnePlus 7 Pro. Though that 12 looks mighty tempting, I just can't get over having the little camera bump on the screen. If they had a model without the selfie camera, I think it'd be a match made in heaven.

In terms of charging, as someone mentioned there's the quiet mode charging, it is generally on that at the start. I have the Find X3 Pro and it has the same charger. There's also a way to "add" more ram to the device in the settings, it may be slightly slower spec ram but it uses designated storage space for an extra 8-12Gb of Ram

I've had a oneplus 12 for about 2 weeks now- switching from an iphone 11. Other than the bullying about green texts and that IOS and Android OS operate a little different i have 0 complaints. The phone can get hot when charging or long intensive gaming sessions but there's a power saving mode you can enable when you play games that will make it more efficient and less hot. I really enjoy this phone overall and especially for its price there's nothing better. It's also very nice there was a $100 trade in bonus for trading in any phone+ the actual evaluation for the phone. I also got the free storage+ram upgrade (no idea why). Unless you're incredibly stuck to apple OS, for the price you pay for OP12 its so worth it. Getting a 15 pro with the same specs would be close to $1200 and i paid 800.

I bought them both and I love both of them. The 12R might as well be $400 by the way because OnePlus is giving $100 off as an instant credit for recycling any phone you have lying around the house. It's such an insane value at the $400 price point when you look at the competition.

What you didn't touch on at all and something that makes a 'huge' difference to me given how long I usually keep my phones, is how many years of updates OnePlus is going to offer with the 12. With Samsung and Google Pixel now offering '7' years of updates on their newest phones, anything less is going to eliminate a phone/brand from consideration.
@agv-vt8co9 ай бұрын
Let's be honest here, who on earth keeps their phone for 7 years nowadays? OnePlus's 4 years of support are more than enough (but that's just me, though)
@Mike-In-O-Town9 ай бұрын
@@agv-vt8co I may not make 7 years on a phone, but I am rocking a Samsung S20 right now that still does everything I need from it, that no longer gets updates, so I know at some point I'll be forced to trade it out for a new phone when some of my apps stop working as they should. And if I'm paying essentially the same amount for that new phone, why would I not opt for the one with 7 years of updates over the one with only 4? I see this as a huge benefit whether you end up keeping a phone for 7 years or not.

I purchased a 12R from Amazon to upgrade my pixel 3a before watching this video. I wanted to watch an unboxing so I could remember how to put the phone back in the box to return it. I probably got a lemon. The things that killed the 12R for me were: 1) unable to use any combination of USB C - USB C or USB C - USB A with adapter to migrate settings and apps from a Pixel 3a to the 12R via cable as encouraged by the 12R's oobe. Bluetooth connection worked fine and was probably just as fast, but this was the first issue that caught my attention. 2) No 'Rules' in the settings. I use rules on my 5-year old Pixel 3a to activate Do Not Disturb based on location. The 12R can't do this. Boo. 3) I prefer a 'warm' screen to reduce blue light when reading at night. On the 12R I purchased, creating a warm setting at night was easy to do, but when scrolling at night, the text would change from the warm color when static to white when actively scrolling then back to the warm color when scrolling stopped and the text was static again. This was really noticeable and really annoying. Boo. 4) Reboots. When I was first setting up the phone, and after updating it to the latest version, it would reboot as I was configuring the apps I transferred over. It probably rebooted five times within the first 20 minutes of opening and configuring various apps. Okay, maybe that's a one time app thing. But when I connected the 12R to my 2021 Mazda via cable for Android Auto and my 50 minute commute to work, the phone would reboot at least once if I didn't touch it and was just using google maps for navigation; and it would reboot, sometimes within a few seconds, if I chose to interact with the screen to, for example, go back a chapter in Smart Audiobook Player. Sometimes after a reboot and connecting the phone back to the car, the phone would loop with a charging message every few seconds and Android Auto was unable to connect to the car while looping making the phone unusable while plugged into the car. Rebooting the phone with the cable unplugged doesn't fix this, but turning the car off and on does, which you obviously can't do while driving on the highway. So I could get about 20-30 minutes of Android Auto on a commute and then I would have to disconnect the phone from the car for the rest of the commute. Out of 8 trips back and forth to work, there was only one trip where the phone did not reboot and I was 'careful' to only use Maps. 5) Always on Display (AOD). I like this feature on the Pixel, and the 12R can do it too with a little configuration. After about four days the AOD wasn't there anymore and when reviewing the AOD settings on the phone, the phone rebooted and would not display the AOD. Toggling AOD off and on did nothing. Turning AOD off, power cycling the phone, and turning AOD back on again finally turned AOD back on. But for how long? ... The Android Auto issue and the warm to cool transition while scrolling were the main the deal breakers for me. A phone is a tool for me and not a play thing. It needs to be reliable. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm returning the 12R and going back to the Pixel 3a for now. I may hold out for the Pixel 10a with the chips from the TSMC. I like to keep a phone many years and even refresh the battery if every thing else is still working fine. I would rather not support Google, but the long software support is appealing.

Just replaced my Note 9 with a 1+12, pretty much loving it so far. Just wish the Photos app wasn't just basically Google Photos with a couple extras on it. I just want my local stuff in the native gallery app like every other phone I've had, and Google Photos for going thru older stuff in cloud storage.

Honestly, for all flagship phones do nowadays, I get the price point of some of them. Some of you obviously forgot how much the Motorola Razor was on release.. Edit: The 2004 Motorola RAZR released at an MSRP of $500, but could cost upwards of $600 from certain carriers. Which adding inflation would be around $1,044 in 2024

I play genshin impact on the phone all the time and watch KZbin more than I probably should, but all in all 10/10 would buy again. My big itch is the battery so when I found out I can get 3 days worth of battery if I stopped playing genshin during my breaks I was so happy made my friend ask about my sanity lol. You know you have a good friend when they ask that lol🎉
