@@scrubscrub4492 Yeah, because everything else just has random lines slapped all over it in place of actual design. They all look mostly the same too. This looks nothing like the black boxes of the old XFX cards, this one is actually smooth and sleek looking, the old ones were just a flat plastic square that didn't even cover the sides. It also has RGB without being too in your face. IF they made them with the PCB showing like you want, you'd see maybe 1% of it, because the other 99% has stuff on it, or would be covered by cooling anyway. Transistors, capacitors, all the shit on the boards is ugly, that's why motherboard manufacturers are making boards where you can't see any of that crap.

@@sporemaster97 Not only do I severely disagree with everything you just said, but that also wasn't even my argument to begin with. I'm saying all-black, "sleek" designs with no personality are just boring. Since backplates are popular now, we need more cards with heavy theming; gimme something that looks like it was ripped out of a 70s fighter jet or old 80s movie spaceship and then given a fresh coat of paint. Personally, the first-party Arc cards look basically the same as almost every other GPU on the market.

The thing that makes me laugh is that I've been into pc tech since the 90s as a kid and people seem to not remember ATI and AMD were competitive or even the leader throughout the 90s and 2000s. It wasn't until the early 2010s that AMD fumbled but the sad part is that even when they were leading, even with graphics, they weren't being purchased at the same rate as Nvidia and you can't compete if you are losing market share even when you have the better product. Mainly gamers aren't the smartest consumers and have led to this mess. Crypto was obviously the gas to the flame but this fire was still a result of bad consumers.

It looks like most OEM (DELL) and 3rd-party ATI Radeon HD4800, there is really nothing unique about it. Its a black-box, holding a card... it looks like a heatbox. Personally id like to see more classic industrial card looks, unique designs or more flat colors. All this Black on Black just feels like more beige on beige. Im not calling for more "Dragons, explosions and RGB" like the industry has gravitated to, but there is 0 in-between and its really annoying. White/Beige, Orange/Red, and Black. Where is the shades of blue's, purples, pinks and greens. Where are coolers that are scientifically engineered to provide full-card cooling, not d-centric, with a tiny bit of ram cooling as a after-thought. Where are boards that rely on multi-colored layers (you can color each PCB layer independently). Where are non-aggressive logo/gfx designs. (Having a GPU shroud that looks like a bunch of trees with RGB clouds would be a breath of fresh air, ffs) Im tired of Black on Black box with generic, low-profile fan over mediocre angled fin-stack. Give me Aggressively-ported blowers, with multi-layered fin-stack groupings, connected via exchange-plates and heat-pipes. Give me horizontally stretched heat-sinks that extract heat to the rear of the card and vent it vertically, for vertically-cooled rigs... I want something new and innovative. Not more GPU's boards designed with ITX's for factors in mind, then have a black box thats been used since 2006 bolted on top as its cheap from Taiwanese/Chinese vendors...

*Definitely* am looking forward to the full benchmarks on this card! Judging by the hardware spec's, it seems like Intel's drivers are leaving a *LOT* of performance on the table. I wonder if you came back in 6 or 12 months and re-tested this same cards with the newest drivers at that time, if you'd get numbers more in line with the nVidia 3070.

Honestly I'm thinking that this is gonna be pretty good, or at least interesting. $329 for about rtx 3060 performance, but possibly up to like 3070 with future driver updates makes it seem like a good investment. Also, the av1 encoder is incredibly cool and will be interesting to see what it can do

Such a shame to hear all the rumours that Arc is effectively cancelled. Considering the sheer volume of work it takes to enter the GPU market, being delayed by a couple years isn't so bad. I just hope they reconsider and get back on track for Battlemage, only having two players is not good for the consumer.
@Pidalin
@Pidalin Жыл бұрын
I think it's nonsense to cancel it after so many years of development and invested money, but managers and other bosses don't always see clearly. If they cancel it before gen 2, it's like throw that money from window completely.
@moortu

It's their first dedicated GPU, It was bound to not be perfect. But that is alright, they can learn from this and make Battlemage better. They should however stop investing in Alchemist right now. They won't break even on that.

Look at gamers nexus video on the a770. He got a response from one of the higher-ups saying that their dedicated gpu department isn't going anywhere anytime soon and that they are just getting started. Or something along the lines of that.

@@Pidalin It's called quitting while you're ahead, if you could even call where they currently sit "ahead." The question is: Do they try to keep pushing and spending on products that almost certainly little to nobody will buy, or do they just stop the bleeding now or in the very near future? I would stop the bleeding. Maybe in a few years they can take their learnings and try again. But they can't build a user base with the hardware and drivers in the state they're in. It's a product that makes literally zero sense to spend money on.
@cthomas025

An Intel exec has refuted those rumors, so they have nothing to reconsider. They have said they are still planning the Battlemage and Celestial launches as originally revealed. Intel is not above making stupid decision, but I would find it hard to believe that they would think that they could dominate the GPU market in the first gen and not be planning on further investing into the platform before seeing the anticipated returns.

nice card! it is a first gen product. what do you expect. as long as it is affordable it is fine. i like the looks of the arc founders edition more than either amds or nvidias founders editions. if they are new to it maybe drivers improve and we get free performance in the future just like on amd cards. if xess doesnt work that well we can just use amds fsr.

Displayport specifies the bandwidth per lane because you may not always be using 4 lanes. If you're using a USB-C dock with dp alt mode, half the lanes may be used for regular USB leaving only 2 for DP. Or if you're using Thunderbolt you might have 8 lanes.
