I used to listen to the Voice of America beamed to Africa in Northern California both morning and evening broadcasts. It was great fun.

I know that this is an older series, but I'm using it to get into shortwave. Is there a similar site to the one that you talked about? That one doesn't seem to have much information anymore.

I saw your video on propagation I live in N Europe and want to listen to SW broadcasts to Asia (eg Cantonese service of RFA) which I can only do so online at the moment Is this what LSB, SSB, USB is used for? If I buy a Tecsun pl-660 or pl-880 am I likely to hear SW broadcasts to Asia on a N Europe reception than say on a Tecsun pl-360? Having asked this, I was peviously advised to buy a pl-660 rather than a pl-360 if I can afford it- given I am a newbie/rookie In light of this should I chose pl-880 or pl-660 Thank you for comments/advice in advance

+AndreJunLi02 Andre The PL-660 and PL-880 have a wider frequency range on SW than the PL-360, so that's a good reason to go for one of them over the 360. For SSB(single sideband), an AM radio signal has a lower sideband(LSB), an upper sideband(USB), and a carrier. The carrier is what allows a user to easily tune in a signal, but it's not an efficient use of a transmitter. When something is broadcast in USB or LSB, the carrier and other sideband are cut out and allow for a much more efficient signal, but then you have to tune it to sound right, and the radio to receive it is more complex and expensive, which is the reason it's not used in a lot of cases. It's nice to have but not necessary, as it's mainly going to be used by ham radio operators, aeronautical and maritime traffic, and not commercial broadcasters typically. I own a PL-660 personally(along with 5-6 other SW radios) and I'm very happy with it. I'd recommend going with a PL-660 or PL-680 and not the PL-880. As far as hearing a specific broadcast not targeted to your area, you won't really know until you try.
