Why ANDY BOGARD Should Become A Villain - KOF Lore

I thought of making videos where I imagine future scenarios that could help further developing KOF characters, while respecting what was already established about them. And our first guest is the second main protagonist of the Fatal Fury series, Andy Bogard. I believe that this guy has the key of putting the whole Fatal Fury band back in the center again, within the KOF timeline.

Terry and Andy are bastard children of Geese Howard in the Fatal Fury timeline too much adds up if you look at it closely. Remember FF and KoF are different timelines so don't see it from a KoF point of view. Terry and Andy have the same hair color and eyes as Geese, the ages of the characters lines up Geese was in his late 40s when he was killed by Terry. Jeff Bogard adopting two child that looks just like Geese . . . why? Jeff being killed by Geese could be one of the reasons for adopting his bastard children. Terry adopting Rock (his little brother) would make a lot more sense now cause before it doesn't just Terry randomly adopting Rock . . . . why? His mother and his Uncle (Kain) are alive why not just take him back to them. The more you sit and pay attention to the Fatal Fury Timeline more stuff you uncover.

Terry knows what it's like to lose a father figure, he knows what it's like to have a father figure killed by a vengeful stranger. Terry doesn't want to do to Rock what Geese did to him, so he adopts him, and shows him all the love that Jeff showed him, breaking the cycle of violence. It's entirely in Character for Terry to do.

Easter egg to the scrapped idea of evil andy was his shadow character in Real Bout special. he was originally supposed to be geese son and turn rouge after finding out right before terry ends his life. the creator said the idea was scrapped at the last minute and they went in another direction despite all the set up in the story and the OVAs

What a Nice fanfiction , personally the idea that Andy can become a baddy , i remember in Ova Tung fu rue say that he choose Jeff over Geese because Geese and Andy can't control their emotions , this is really interresing when i think about it , and yes Andy need more attention i agree with you , awesome video by the way

Andy has been my all time SNK favorite character. His silent and cool demeanor relates to me a lot. The amount of time that took you to make a video on him just shows how DESPERATELY he needs atention. THANK YOU AND PLEASE READ THIS. I also like his relationship with Mai. He sees Mai for what she is instead of seeing her just for her pair of boobs or judging her for her outfit like 99% of the male characters, also growing up with her and treasuring and proudly defending the history of his master Hanzo and the entire Shiranui clan. They both are for one another. But that being said, PLEASE, something has to be done with him storywise. Not agreeing with you on him going all EVIL, as he treasures a lot Jeff Bogard and his teachings, the first man that accepted him to suddenly take Geese's mantle, especially if he discovers he was Geese's son and got abandoned. It would make him despise Geese even more. But as you said, he has shown a darker side, so explore more him struggling to contain that side of him and succumbing to the revenge route resorting to isolating from his friends and allying himself to dubious company (There you go... new brutal moves in-game to reflect his darker side and new characters and relationships to future games) versus his care for his brother and friends and love for Mai being the counterpoint. Mai would also benefit as she would be seeing this darker tendencies of him flourishing, as they date and live together, and be torn of supporting him to his newer way of thinking or bringing him back to his senses by joining Mary, Yuri, King, Joe and Terry or other allies, while also carrying the Shiranui tradition and dojo by herself in the meantime (There you go... development for her on becoming an even stronger individual and woman and also as a kunoichi). Would be a great closure seeing them making Andy realize not being worth the revenge path with Andy/Mai eventually marrying after that, something that has been on the table 20+ years and fighting games in general lack official couples. If not in-game because it would probably require a new Fatal Fury game (invest resources to a doubtful return as it is not KOF), make this a canon OVA series. SHORYU, seeing you have a platform and an audience, you could try get to SNK the need of them working these classic characters (Andy especially, but also Joe, Ryo, Robert...) storywise. PLEASE (twitter to Oda/SNK, instagram, e-mail, etc.) I don't see SNK making another FF or AOF game in the near future as they are rebuilding so that is a huge blow. THEY NEED LIFE as they are progressively losing appeal and popularity due to not being worked on (as shown by you, with the time taken to make a video on him. Newer fans only care about Kyo, Iori and Terry is a point out of the curve. Mai also but it's mainly because of her boobs/sex appeal first). PLEASE!!!!!!!

@@ShoryuGame That sucks 😕... I don't see an official SNK place where fans can give feedback/suggestions so we are really "hostage" to whatever they want to do. And the signs are that this won't change for the foreseeable future. With that I resorted to you, that cares a lot about lore and has an audience that appreciate your opinions to maybe contacting other creators that may have/know how to deliver this urge to SNK. Guys like you, that care for the whole package, not only ingame aspects, are really rare. You are the only one I saw with this type of content. Did you see the KOF: Destiny episodes? That was a mockery of a show... SNK giving and signing work from third-party companies that don't even know how to capture the characters personalities and respect their stories. Andy and Joe were relegated to being Terry's cheerleaders. So disrespectful. Such an iconic team and characters being treated as a one man show. How Andy and Joe increase their popularity this way? It goes the other way around. It sucks have classic characters with so much potential like Andy being mistreated by casuals/newer fanbase to a point some even say they wouldn't mind not seeing him in future titles, because he is 'bland'. To some extent it is partially true and SNK is at fault. The way to make a character interesting again, along with his in-game play is working on his personality/story that has being stale for sooo long. On a side note, I think I did a pretty solid 'What if' about Andy, don't you think? I Tried to cover all the bases, and also indicate possibilities of inclusion of newer characters while staying true to his story, personality, and relationships pre-games (like the Jeff Bogard's, Hanzo Shiranui's and also Mai's takes).

His kit was never the best or easiest to use but I have mained him in every game he's been in nonetheless. I just can't fathom Andy going bad though, he's way to principled for that.

I love every bit about this. Because for me, Andy was always just Terry's brother, Mai's love interest and... Italiboo? (Seriously, if I had a nickel for every time Andy (or his team in the latter example) had a stage in Italy, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it is weird that it happened twice.) Andy NEEDS the development and so does Mai. I like her personality, but mostly because it shows up in comical skits which isn't a bad thing, but you would think that one of the unofficial icons of SNK would have more focus on her. NGL, I also liked the concept of Billy having an Enemy Mine moment with Terry and/or Joe. There is always more to him than his blind obedience to Geese.

I agree mai is the poster girl for snk that actually comes from solid fighting background. Her rivals are chun li and Kasumi (DOA) meaning shes on the same level these female characters who are the strongest female characters in their franchises so honestly it's about time mai's character reflects that. We know she can fight because shes already on a high standard and she literally playing around so mai in serious form is very welcomed at this point we've seen playful mai for to long

7:43 *NANI?!* Here is something interesting. In 1994, SNK was working on their version of 'Street Fighter Alpha/Zero' for Fatal Fury. Making a Fatal Fury prequel of the events of Art of Fighting, with a young version of Geese as the main protagonist. The game was cancelled because SNK didn't want to look back to the past and instead to the future of Southtown, that's why they made Savage Reign (the setting of that series is in the future of Southtown) The only thing that survived about that cancelled Fatal Fury prequel was a poster made by Shinkiro with the main characters, young Geese, Tung Fu Ru, Jeff Bogard, Takuma and the rest are unknown characters. It is a shame that game was cancelled because it might finally reveal the question of Geese being Terry and Andy's father.

Andy's lopsided rivalry with Terry is worth exploring as an avenue for his future growth; but I think that rather than making him what would essentially amount to an Evil!Ninja!Rock, you could get something more unique for both him and Mai by focusing on the world they grew up in - the world of the Shiranui clan - and having the team's conflict be triggered by events transpiring there.

I like this idea a lot. Like in John Sex's "Who is Terry and Andy's father" video, he has pointed out that Andy is a shadow of Geese, he is in where Geese was, doing what Geese did (mostly about his mad training in order to revenge or to compete with his brother, abandoning the one who loves them but never be able to surpass them), he even looks similar to Geese in some games. I like the idea that Andy may become antagonist in some games though I don't like the Geese possessing Andy thing or the Geese is Andy's father *is true.* Keeping Andy's father a mystery and Andy having crisis about not knowing if Geese is his father or not (as Geese has destroyed any evidences that prove he is or is not Andy's father before) I think is better, it didn't go against any statements SNK has made before, but also still letting something like thing to happen (without losing Geese or Andy). And instead of Andy taking over Geese's place all of suddenly, why not making that everyone also hears Geese saying Andy is his son, and while Andy is in conflict, Kain and 1/3 of Geese minions votes Andy to be new boss of South Town, Billy and 1/3 of Geese went against him and the last 1/3 just left him, that way we have Andy tasting the feeling of being "Geese", starting seeing himself as someone who has the control over everything, and know he seeking Terry to prove that he is better than him, he is the best and seeking Billy to prove that everyone who dares oppose him shall take the punishment.

I love the respect you show for these games and its characters. Demanding a more deep lore for Mai in this scenario was a great display of that. Also, you did your homework when making this video. I would love to see a “What if” with King’s lore. What if her brother died and was not saved? What if she defeated Kai and Mr. Big herself? I think that would be very interesting

This was touched on in the fatal fury movies as Tung Fu Rue explained to Terry why he chose him as the successor to the “secret move”. He chose Jeff Bogard instead of Geese and Terry instead of Andy cause Geese and Andy fought with emotion and the secret technique would corrupt them and they would use it for evil. Obviously fatal fury movies are not canon to the main arc of FF and KOF.

Naaaaah How are they not canon... You know, There's a rule for this kind of things, there has alwas been a rule. And is Common Sense Easy If Movies and Other Sources are aproved by author or official producers - in this case, SNK -, and they don't conflict with the actual MAIN Canon historylines - SNK Wikki doesn't have any problems with Andy, Terry training - then it's all Canon anyways. Terry and Andy training is a simple prequel history to the first Fatal Fury history line. Even if it's shown in a movie, the training and Tung Fu decission is canon, cause the Training Montage Filler part makes the first canon historyline to make sense . Also Terry uses his secret move in the main canon historylines anyways, so there's that as well.

No. What is or isn't cannon is determined by statements made by the owners of IP. It's why Disney could remove the star wars eu from the movie cannon once they bought the rights. It's fine if you personally consider their training in the movies cannon, but that isn't the same as it officially being confirmed as cannon.

yes they are. the motion picture is supposed to be cannon too but thats the only one that is debatable. it was confirmed a long time ago andy was intended to be geeses son and set up to be terrys next obstacle after the truth was found out but the idea was scrapped. thats why they throw us little easter eggs here and there. shadow andy is one of them. that was the original andy we were supposed to get as the story continued, an evil version. the art work between him and geese is also intended to be easter eggs of the scrapped concept.

Andy Bogard ain't the only one, none of my Mains like K' (Dash), Robert, not even my Boi Ralf and his Ikari Homies (like Clark, Leona, Whip and Heidern) were not invited, Having just Ryo and Yuri is not a Complete representation without Robert because he's one of the most Important Main Characters in the AOF series, Ralf and the other Ikari Warriors have been true Mainstay Veterans of the KOF series since Day 1, I can Accept the Fact that K' wasn't in CVS 1 and 2 because those Games came out at the same Time as the NESTS Saga (KOF 99, 2000 and 2001), but his Popularity went Skyrocketed in KOF 2002, but couldn't even make it in SVC: Chaos, total Disrespect.

I do agree with how some SNK representatives seems to be less integrated into the story thank others. I think SNK can also use KOF to advance the story of Mark of the Wolves. Yes, it’s an alternate scenario and all but at least we get to see the story continue in some way. I like how this scenario have all of its key characters in the Fatal Fury play, especially Mai. This is a really good video shoryugame, i also have big problems with the lore in this series for a long time. I think it's too late to change character like this, the main problem is... KOF character's doesn't age. They held KOF tournaments every years but all characters are on the same age in every singe game. This series need a reboot, i mean it, starting from Orochi Saga. Establishing the lore of the sacred treasure team and the hakkeshu, at the same time also developing ikari warrior characters (Heidern revenge against Rugal and how leona was finally able to control the orochi's blood). No need to held tournaments every single year, but they can just held two tournaments in one saga (first tournament held by Rugal, and the second one by Chizuru). Everything that happened in kof 96 until the orochi's revival will become one in this second tournament. After this saga, Kyo will disappear like in the previous KOF lore, but in 1 or 2 years of searching for kyo, SNK can develop other characters, either from Fatal fury or Art of fighting until the discovery of NESTS. I just hope that KOF XV will sell well and they can finally expanding their games. In my opinion, KOF series has much more interesting lore than street fighter, even if SNK intends to develop each character well, their characters will be as iconic as mortal kombat characters

I think the series is in desperate need of new ideas but I don't want a complete hard reboot where we'd lose everyone from NESTS, Tales of Ash, especially because this series has done nothing but pander to Orochi saga nostalgia recently. I would like at least a small time skip and more willingness to experiment with the FF/AOF characters. They kind of played around with the idea of Yamazaki being one of the Hakkeshu in 97 and Geese being interested in Orochi blood, but Yamazaki and Geese didn't return in 99 and they never explored the idea again.

I feel like it would make sense if only Andy was the son of Geese mainly because of his attacks. Most of Andy’s attacks are blue just like Geese’s, and even more so in Kof 14 & 15. In recent games, they’re making Terry’s attacks Yellow instead of having one or two be blue. The only thing that bugs me is Terry being Geese’s son, but I’d love to see if this is how Andy grows.

I think the difference between Andy and someone like Robert is with Andy, there's definitely some kind of dark side to him, but with Robert I'd say those two would be partners in crime no matter what. Robert, when he felt too pressured by his father to inherit the company, took to the Kyokugen dojo as a release, and his prowess at the style served as a motivator for Ryo, and as we've seen they've been back-to-back on many adventures. However with Andy, its always felt like he played second fiddle to Terry if he liked it or not. Terry inherited the Senpuu ken technique, and was the one to "kill" Geese both times. Andy had always been on the sidelines with Joe, but Joe's seemed to be rather content with that.

One thing I'd change is to have Geese use the scroll to fake his death rather than become a ghost. Have Andy's turn secretly be his plan all along to have him join the Geese Connection and fracture his greatest enemies. Billy isn't in on the plan because Geese knows he's too emotional to keep things under wraps, so we still get that storyline.

Golly! You are right. Not only because both look kinda similar. Geese was jealous of his half brother Krauser and later his friend Jeff Bogard. That's why he wanted to get everything and one of the reasons why he became a villain.

12:18 I couldn't agree with this more! Mai only stays in the tournaments just to get closer to Andy, who is the closest thing to being a playable background character. She's like the original Naruto kunoichi, just written to obsess over a fellow ninja that hardly pays attention to them. Like, how are you gonna be one of the most popular characters in your franchise, entering multiple crossovers (DOA) with your love interest's older brother (CVS, SVC, SNK Heroines😂) and sometimes even his other teammate(CVS Pro/2), but your only motivation is to chase this dude that can't even get into a crossover game? 😂

And the reason why Capcom added Violent Ken for USF II wasn’t because of fans request (Violent Ken rank 39th at fans popularity poll) but because they need new characters that can grab people interest to buy another SF II version.

I think SNK has extremely little interest in advancing legacy characters except as it relates to pushing new characters. I feel that most game companies are more interested in capturing new gamers, and not appeasing old ones unfortunately.

Here is something I always think about the finale of KOF XIV Instead of making the Japan Team the champions/heroes of that tournament, why not making the Fatal Fury Team being the winners/heroes who defeat Verse? They are very close to Master Tung after all. Speaking of Tung, Why he decided to ask Kyo to watch over his disciples instead of Terry or Andy? See?

they did at one point. Fatal Fury was their cash cow but much of that money was squandered into too many failed projects. they couldn't live off that fatal fury IP forever. KOF got pushed heavily because SNK was bought out by a chinese company and in china KOF was massively popular. when they bought SNK back from the chinese they just stuck with what was selling at the time and tried to over capitalize on that momentum. thats why they started doing so many licensing deals for characters and IPs. they wanted to raise money for other passion products. SNK needs to learn how to diversify their catalog and not rely solely on developing fighting games only. to be honest, many of their fighting game series would have been better developed as rpgs instead since SNK leans heavily towards story, lore, and character development. they love fleshing out the background and giving the character a purpose and a journey. imagine if they made some of those games into RPGs or action titles like capcom and square. the story and the characters are there, just need a department to develop it. they never learn

I am not sure if this was true but I remember a supposed dropped arc with Kensou and his dragon spirit being under the notice and interest of the flying brigands association. Could we get a lore of Kensou and maybe by association Bao? Kensou's Lore is basically the same as Athena's Lore in a Repeating way because he's always besides her throughout the KOF series (with the exception of KOF 2003), *"The Dragon's Spirits"* Storyline has never been Resolved and was utterly Abandoned after the Events of KOF XI, but what it got in it's place in KOF XIII was an entirety Different and is a complete Joke Ending, The real Problem of why *"The Dragon's Spirits"* storyline was Dropped is because some of the KOF Staff Members has been changing a lot of different Writers.

What-if scenarios like these are always fun when they're well thought out and examined, and this is no exception. I myself came up with a few ideas of getting SNK's other IPs into KOF. For example, Super Geon could be the physical manifestation of Kensou's dragon spirit from an abandoned side plot in the NEST saga. Cyber Woo would have the same origin story from Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, only this time he's entering KOF. Atomic Guy could have originally been an elderly man who took part in an experiment that gave him super powers. Now that Nakoruru is officially in KOF, she could bring back the souls of Hahomaru and Galford to form the Samurai Shodown team that was suppose to appear in 95 and 96. Allen O Neil could become a mid-boss like in Metal Slug, crashing the tournament to obtain whatever McGuffin his boss told him to get, and not having signed up for the tournament beforehand he'll attack the player with machineguns, grenades and knives (in short, he cheats). G-Mantle could be an alias worn by many people in the past (One such wearer being Jeff Bogard) and mysterious newcomer now dawns the mask and cape. Not sure what his fighting-style would be, but his victory animation will show him pulling out a microphone and laughing into it. K9999 could be made into an alter-ego for Nameless, as a cloaked figure whose only facial features seen are two angry eyes and two rows of sharp teeth. He could become the manifestation of Nameless' doubts on his loyalty with NEST. I also have an idea for a fighting-style; since Foxy is a fencer, how about a Kendo fighter?

Man, what a interesting idea. There are so many possibilities you could go with this story line. I wouldn't even make it KOF. I would use this idea to restart Fatal Fury. Andy was always a jealous guy, standoffish, but cold and a bit aloof guy. Throw in the fact that Terry is more popular, killed geese instead of him, then raise Rock...Yeah that's some motivation for a heel turn. I can see him not even going full bad. Being a antihero at first, telling Terry and others that he is just cleaning up southtown. Then slowly, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I would leave out the geese takeover. They did that with daredevil in marvel and ruined a decent story. Let Andy go bad on his own, using Geese's moves, but giving them a Andy spin. Really like this idea Shoryu! Thanks for the video!

Being a crime-lord doesn't suit Andy at all, just because he can turn evil, doesn't mean he has to kill Geese and become young Geese 2.0, they can just make him a more rugged, ruthless version of himself, it would make a lot more sense considering the Garou characters also exist within this timeline almost completely unchanged and it can fit with the whole disappearance motif in Garou.

@@James-oj6ru The Art of Fighting/Fatal Fury/Garou timeline is separate from the KOF timeline, in the former characters did age and the story progressed forward, in the KOF timeline, while originally it did move forward and characters aged (in bios you can see an age difference between KOF 94 and the rest of the series) and even later on down the line, there are hints that the characters are maturing (seeing as how Garou characters were starting to show up in KOF and Terry was in his Garou gear), unfortunately, SNK seems to have completely given up on that idea by XIII.

Here is a little trivia. SNK was working on their version of 'Street Fighter Alpha/Zero' for Fatal Fury. Making a Fatal Fury prequel of the events of Art of Fighting, with a young version of Geese as the main protagonist. The game was cancelled because SNK didn't want to look back to the past and instead to the future of Southtown, that's why they made Savage Reign (the setting of that series is in the future of Southtown) The only thing that survived about that cancelled Fatal Fury prequel was a poster made by Shinkiro with the main characters, young Geese, Tung Fu Ru, Jeff Bogard, Takuma and the rest are unknown characters. It is a shame that game was cancelled because it might finally reveal the question of Geese being Terry and Andy's father.

I remember that line in Batman The Dark Knight. Very good movie. Anyway, that's why I prefer Ken over Andy. Ken started as a young full of ego and conceited. That's why his father send him to Gouken's dojo so Ken could become more humble and Gouken's teachings worked at the end. Ken became humble and has found his own path. Like Sakura, he no longer wants to follow Ryu's path and instead became a family man and a good mentor figure for Sean and his own son, Mel. Uncle Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender and Master Roshi would be proud 👍 Being humble is better than being selfish.

@@meganinten0078 It's Best that "Fatal Fury" doesn't really need to have a Prequel like the "Street Fighter Alpha" series, but I do see a good Potential for a new Fatal Fury Game to take place between the Events of FF2 and FF3 because Lore-Wise there was a Time Skip in the Middle, same as like how "SamSho 2019" did when Chronologically it takes place in between "SamSho 5" and "SamSho 1." I'm actually Glad that "Savage Reign" became a separate I.P. than just another "Fatal Fury" Game, otherwise it would make things a lot Complicated, Geese Howard is pretty much *The Joker* from "DC Comics" of SNK Games, we all know his Origin Story goes, but not a whole lot of anything about much of the Character is known.

@@meganinten0078 Well Unfortunately, Andy Bogard is nothing like Ken Masters from Street Fighter, Andy isn't as Humble and has never got any Important Role in any Storylines, his only Purpose is just wants to badly Surpass his Brother Terry, at least Robert Garcia actually got his own Major Role in a Storyline on AOF 3, it actually kinda shows that perhaps Robert has the most Character Development than any Side Character ever has, In My Opinion, Andy should've of just marry Mai already and just Retire from the KOF and Fatal Fury series, at least freaking Goro Daimon got to be a Family Man so he has the Right to be Absent in KOF XV (because Family comes 1st).

Dude. Love what you said about Mai halfway through and her lack of dev. Ironic considering she's a product across two main series manufactured by the rival company that made storylines more consistently fleshed out in their fighting games than Capcom did until Street Fighter V (Overlooked Fact!). Even the guys at SNK working on KOF11 must've been subconsciously aware of this as I accidentally found out while binge playing the game as it was new at the time. Apparently - instead of making Mai apart of the standard roster, was made one of the hidden characters. The kicker was that I didn't even notice it until I eventually unlocked her (along with Robert later on.... [?]). It's like, whoever was in charge of the roster was like, "Yeah all she'll do is have no impact to the story. But hey! Fanboys won't send us hate mail if we put her in last minute....course they'd have to know to keep playing." Now that I think about it, this could be the reason most fans wouldn't have known to actually buy KOF 11 as it was damn good (one of my favs). The final roster reveal (minus secret characters) can make or break a games release. She literally had no story arc and now I know why.

For me, Andy Bogard was always my favorite FF/KOF character besides Mai, Kyo, Iori, Chizuru, Terry, Kim, Joe, King, Robert and the list goes on. Also I never forget him ever since I watched carefully his fighting style that reminds me on other two favorite characters from Final Fight/Street Fighter series, Guy and Zeku. Plus about his shadow or should I say his doppelgaenger, Andy is not evil but still it really reminds me on Raiden from MGS series, when he accepted and used the Jack the Ripper mode to become more faster and stronger against the enemy. If you are going to make more videos like this, I would like to see your ideas for K' and the characters from the NESTS saga (Whip, Kula, Maxima, K9999, etc). KOF 2003 was the last game where K' got a good role in the story and after that he became a secondary character just to make Kyo and Iori relevant in the story again. SNK always like to repeat the story and elements of the Orochi Saga because nostalgia sells 😑 Even in KOF XV are doing that...
