The Story of Blue Mary - KOF Lore

Mary Ryan, more commonly known as Blue Mary was first introduced in Fatal Fury 3 as the second female fighter in the series after Mai Shiranui. Blue Mary was the most requested character to join the King of Fighters roaster as a member of KOF 97's Special team with Billy Kane and Ryuji Yamazaki. This is her story in both Fatala Fury and KOF timelines.

In the FF series there are hints that Terry and Mary are actually together if you piece together the Garou storyline. While in KOF is really blatant that both like each other. She's pretty much also the SNK's answer to Cammy. Both blonds, no projectiles, uses up close and personal attacks, but they have opposite likes on animals as Cammy likes cats and hates dogs while Mary loves dogs and hates cats.

It is a shame Blue Mary wasn't in Capcom vs SNK I would have loved to see her fighting Cammy. I think Terry doesn't want to date with Mary because he is afraid of seeing her dying. Terry is so unlucky that every girl he falls in love with ends up dead.

And if you look at how they played in their debut games, even their moves are similar, covering the same range and even the same purpose: Straight Slicer = Cannon Drill Vertical Arrow = Cannon Spike Spin Fall = Hooligan Combo For throws, they both have some kind of german suplex/backdrop and frankensteiner/hurricanrana Seriously, it's a crime how overlooked all of this was as an obvious CvS rivalry. I would have 100% traded Vice (who shouldn't have been included without Mature anyway) for Mary

Mary strikes rely on both her arms and legs, par with some arm locks. While Cammy used her legs to excute most of her move. Mary fighting style feels more "powerful", while Cammy gives out more "acrobatics" vibe. If SNK made a fusion of Mary and King, they would have their own "Cammy" though.

WTF! How did I not put together Mary and android 18! LOL. Mary actually was the one that got me and my friends into KOF. We were walking in a Japanese arcade and were vets of street fighters and saw KOF. My friend sat down and played it as i watched over his shoulder. Give out SF skills, we thought he was doing okay and he passed a few matches, then Mary broke him off with a 26 hit combo. We both were like WTF was that! lol. of course we had to learn what this crazy game was that allowed such a high hit count and didn't look as cheesy like killer instinct. Thanks Shoryu for the Blue Mary video because she inadvertently began my love of this franchise.
