Heard rumors that one of the major companies is working on a small GPS position transmitter that fits onto the top of existing flagsticks. They also work on a universal software interface so that the position signal can be picked up by GPS watches, smartphone golf apps and GPS screens on electric trolleys to show the exact pin position on the green. That would be a fantastic feature!

I have been using the shot scope v3 for the data collection. I have used it for gapping my clubs but the data analysis of chip shots driver distance etc is invaluable.

Great review 👍 i have both, maybe overkill but i like the laser for those close approach/wedge shots when you need to be precise. I also like the watch for all the stat tracking.
@petermartinaitis81663 жыл бұрын
So you're a pro golfer who can hit to precise distances ?
@KeVaNo443 жыл бұрын
Peter Martinaitis when it comes to wedges id say im pretty good at hitting my yardages yeah. 3 wedges - half swing & 3/4 swing & full swing = 9 different yardages.
@paulmilsom13464 жыл бұрын
Use both, if you can afford it. I would have liked you to have lasered a distance, then told us what the watch read so we could compare accuracies too
@steventurner26653 жыл бұрын
I agree however its not really comparable. The watch is giving you front middle back of green and not flag. The laser is giving you to the flag including slope reading.
@M82RKY3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of golfer you are, If you attack the flag then sure.....both but for me who just wants to find the middle of the green the the watch is superb!!!!

V3 is a watch and like the old Game Golf which I know Sophie was a big user of in the past. I had Game Golf and it really helped me really understand where and how far I was hitting the ball. Gave me a much better idea of club gapping. Will be getting a V3 when they come back in stock.

Used to use a watch but found them to be a bit too bulky, I have a G30 on my bag & a Bushnell laser, the combination gives me the best of both worlds. I had a playing partner tell me off for not knowing the exact yardage I was trying to leave last November, I purchased a laser straight away, it has made a big change in how I play a course.

I have been looking at one or the other, thanks for a great report. You made my choice easier. Watch for me.

I just bought the watch, not delivered yet, and already have a range finder (Caddytrak) I plan to use them in tandem, playing from "the other fairway" 😂 This was a great review, and I think your final analysis was spot on, thank you for a great video.

Great comparison. There is a need for both for sure. Tell me, are you all PXG?
@MarkR9734 жыл бұрын
I’ve played with both and both are good.. if forced to have only one or the other I’d go w the lazer because you can scope various targets with it .. like when your in the woods and have to chip out and want to know the distance to the trees on the other side of the fairway... not that it’s ever happened to me....
@ronaldwestra87354 жыл бұрын
So the best thing you can do is buy a gps laser range finder. The Garmin Z80 for example. I use it for more then a year now and I love it. Best of both worlds
@Bazza473 жыл бұрын
I use both a Shotscope v3 watch and an old V2 Bushnell laser and find them invaluable when selecting my club into the green as that helps me decide especially if the pin is just over a bunker or near the back of the green. Both have their advantages but if I could only have one it would be the laser as that's more useful when I'm in the scoring zone.

Nice and honest comparison! Sophie, have you ever tried a Garmin Approach Golf watch? (For example the S42/S62). Quite a nice system with lots of info on hazards and course info on your wrist.

I prefer to see a map of the course. I use both, but usually the rangefinder from 150yds. The course planners don't help with winter greens.

Nice review, I've thought about getting a laser recently because I've had the GPS signal drop out on my watch a few times. Maybe I should upgrade the watch but I like the idea of the slope adjustment. Now if I could just find a gadget to read putts for me...

I love my shotscope v3, accurate enough for me who is pretty inconsistent with distances but only 10 yards give or take.

I have a GPS watch. It works great but one problem is when it's really cloudy, the GPS can have problem getting the location. This happened to me once though.

I like the idea of the watch but it is not good for people who are allergic to the latex watch straps, like me. It is a shame that there is not a stainless steel strap alternative...or is there, but not mentioned. As for a returnee to golf, like myself, or the beginner, I like the idea of the sensors for the clubs to get and idea of each club distance. All I need now is a pair of glasses to help me track my ball when I get it airbourne. Then I will not be guessing where my ball is or which direction it went.

I use a watch and a laser; use watch until approaching the green and need distance to the flag.
@achillesTWOk4 жыл бұрын
Bit pointless not using both devices on each hole - THAT would then be a proper Head-to-Head comparison.
@ThinkBlueAZ3 жыл бұрын
Your drive on hole #1 went in the righthand rough, requiring you to try and bend a shot around a tree on your approach. You came up short and didn’t get close enough on your chip so you scored a 5. None of those things had to do with the watch.
@cbagnall3 жыл бұрын
plus it lipped out easily could of dropped watch by far best

Don't think you can put the V3 on your golf bag, it has to register your club....
@davidelsworth78233 жыл бұрын
I want that laser
@donharrold13753 жыл бұрын
laser is too slow and unnecessary for most golfers; understanding a pin position within +/- 1 yard is irrelevant for most people as they can’t execute with such precision.
@marabu19774 жыл бұрын
Srsly, Laser is winning base on how bad you've played on first hole? Worst "vs" video I've seen in years. So pros and cons what I see or hear. Watches: Pros - show you reach and carry for hazzards (even you have no idea if they are here or are obstructed by hill, tree etc.), shows front, middle and back of the green from whatever possition you are (dogled, slope etc.) and BEST of all have tags for clubs that count shots and yardages. Cons - it is not accurate in terms of feets but for one or two yards it is OK, cannot show distance to different things like trees or distance pin (somebody can use this as hint for placement in dogleg) and Worst (for 1% of players) it does not show exact distance to the flag so you have to check scorecard for pin location (eg. front left) and gues the distance from front and middle green yardage. Laser: Pros and Cons are practically opposite. Resume is: If you are normal player (lets say everyone except tour pro players) and playing course that is not flat as minigolf, have trees and/or hazzards you should pick Watches + you will get THE TAGS :) If you are PRO and for some reason you don't have caddy and yardage book and you are allowed to use laser on tournament than pick Laser. P.S. I understand that Sophie is good but really you hit exactly the same length every single time no mater the weather, lie, slope etc. to have advantage in information that flag is 113 yards instead of just knowing that it is 115 yards away + -5 yards?
@petermartinaitis81663 жыл бұрын
Are you seriously telling us you need a laser to tell you the slopes on your own course and what club to hit after hundreds of rounds......get real.
