Glad to see Larry is still involved, since he was there from almost the beginning. On another note, kind of sad how the original designer/creator Max Gera (who is still alive) got swept away by Harry Sanford at the first smell of money. Thanks Max, this cool looking piece wouldn't be here today if it were not for you. Also thanks to Brian Maynard for keeping it alive during all those years of unavailability and creation of the Baby Auto Mag.

Racer X, Are you in touch with Max? Do ask him to visit the Nitroexpress Forums. Many of his friends are still there, though some have passed on since he stopped visiting there. Thank you!

Specialty gun, with a specialty price tag. I get it. Just like Colt reboot of the python. When he said 44 mag in the video, he is loosely referring to the 44-amp (as listed on their website). The Automag design does not facilitate rimmed cartridges, like 44 rem mag, 357 rem mag. 44-amp is a just a rimless 44 diameter round. 357-amp same idea. Big heavy action meant for big hot hunting rounds, not a 9mm defense gun. I have faith that it will be a refined gun since they are using things not cost effective or available back in the day, like CNC machining, and 3d stress modeling. As of 2020, They have already gone to a titanium firing pin, corrected frame deficiencies, and used high speed cameras to reveal and correct things like bolt bounce. Great effort, and I look forward to owning one someday. Just like making supercars with a small market and high price = a volatile business model. HOWEVER... Being the parent company (Excel) is an existing business (however small), its not their only gig. So there is some business diversification here. They are likely using the Automag Ltd division to separate the liability if this particular venture goes belly up, thus protecting Excel. Just like S&W performance center or CZ Mastershop guns are not mainstream fodder, they do persist and remain viable. But this parent company does NOT have dedicated shelf space with 20 other models at local gun shops like do SW / CZ / Sig. Most shops will never inventory one-off niche pieces yet that's what is needed for the cash rich collector to impulse buy these - they gotta handle it in person. Tough way to market, I wish them luck.

Nice. Except they got to use wildcat rounds in that pistol just like with the original.

I actually fired one back in '85,it belonged to a guy I was working for.Its only practicality is its novelty,and I've been a 44mag.(29 and629) guy since the seventies.However if had a spare 3 g.s I would definitely get one just to marvel at.

I have the exactly same age with this gun. Unfortunately here in Greece to have one is extremely difficult. And I don't own any gun for this reason. European regulations!!! (But not impossible just not so easy as USA. Even yours more dificult regulations in some states are much more easy in front of European). The only(lot of) guns I used was in the army long ago. But when you see something worth to have it is like a verification stamp inside you, one gun to rule them all. And in my opinion and only, this one, expensive yes but in this certain occasion a secontary matter, is the one and only gun makes someone, at least at the wild outdoors, to feel safe, secure and protected against anything. Mostly because of course when you carry something you like and inspires you and makes you feel o.k is better.

Where's the original chamberings ?the original didn't fire 44 magnum it fired 44 automag a different cartridge manufactured by Norma or hand loaded from 3006 308 or 243 winchester brass .chambering it in revolver cartridges will make it more commercially successful but it should be offered as originally produced in those cartridges too
@ces43996 жыл бұрын
He misspoke. It isn't firing anything different from what was made back in the 1970's.

I have an auto mag. Bought it in the 80's. These idiots below that want it in all these weak calibers are nuts. A 9mm auto mag, or 410 out of it's mind. I don't think a 44 magnum cartridge will work. I've shot buffalo, elk and wild pigs. Every once and a while I take it to the range, if you call it a Wildey, you can't shoot it. An original one goes for more than $3500. I also have a lee Juras 357 auto mag bbl.

@5761036 жыл бұрын
Wrong. It doesn’t use .44 Magnum (.44 Remington Magnum, the revolver cartridge). It uses its own unique round, the .44 AMP, Auto Mag Pistol. Originally it was created by cutting down .308 rifle brass, teaming the neck and fitting a .44 Magnum bullet. Ballistics roughly mirror the .44 Rem Mag revolver cartridge, but the two are not even remotely interchangeable. .44 AMP was made in the 70s by Norma and CDM in Mexico, and later by Cor-Bon. Now new brass can he had from Starline and loaded ammo from SBR, using Starline brass and Hornady bullets.

576103 good to know. Also good news for people that still own the originals. I don't expect it to readily available at Wal-Mart but at least it will be a little more available. Bet it will still be expensive as he'll to shoot.
